She said she would call and set up an appointment
to meet with a tech and update the machine that
way. She said in the next week or two.

Hello Bradley and Stephanie,

Thank you for your response regarding what I need to do to get Windows 10 updated
to my office and lab computers.

I have some programs on my computer that I can not recall if I downloaded to my
desktop or UCS downloaded.
Additionally, from the emails, I am not sure if I need to make copies of any
files that are on the computer hard drive and save them to the H drive, or if I
only needed to do that for programs and files on the desktop.

I would prefer to be here when the upgrade happens and have someone from UCS
check out what I have on my computers before doing the upgrades. I don't want to
lose anything.

I can be available this coming Friday Oct 11 from 9-11 or 1:15-3:00 if someone
can come by my office at that time. My office is Todd 309 and my lab is Todd 310.

Thanks,

Hi Chehalis,

We were just following up with you regarding a service
request that we have for you. (#73983)

Description: windows 10 update ** 10/3 10-12 or 10/7
4-5**

Yes you will need to copy any files you need from your
Desktop or Downloads that you may need to your H
Drive. These files shouldn't be disturbed during the
upgrade we just want to make sure everything is safe
in case something goes wrong. If you need help with
this we can set up a time to come and help you.

For the other machines if you send me the WOU#'s I
can add them to the push as well. The same backup
advice applies. If you have any questions feel free to
ask.

Thanks,
Bradley Karkanen

Hello UCS help team,

I would be happy to have you update my computers to
Windows 10 overnight.

I do have 2 questions.

1) Your email indicates that I should backup my files
and bookmarks. What files should be backed up? Files
that are connected to the desktop? or all files on the
computer hard drive? Currently, I have several
programs that are bookmarked on my desktop. I do not
know how to back those up. I assume that the
programs are saved someplace on the computer, but I
always access them through the bookmark on the
desktop. Could someone help me with this?

2) I need to have my office (Todd 309) and lab (Todd
310) computers updated from Windows 7 to 10. Do you
need the WOU computer number for the lab computer
(Todd 310) to do the overnight upgrade? I didn't have
it available when I called in the request (and don't have
it now), but could forward that information if needed
when back on campus tomorrow.

Thanks,

Chehalis Strapp

Hi Chehalis,

We can schedule your Windows 7 to 10 upgrade
overnight through our management software.
Everything happens automatically and will also
upgrade you to the latest Office. All you need to do is
leave your machine on and it will upgrade between
10pm-5am. This should be near zero downtime. As
always we still ask that you backup your files and
bookmarks just in case something goes wrong. If you
are unsure of how to backup your stuff you can
contact the Help Desk at ucshelpdesk@wou.edu or by
calling 88925.

Office computer needs windows 10 update. The room next door is her lab, and that desk top needs the update as well.
