Hi Katherine,
I have not seen John this week. To be honest
with you, the slowness of programs like Word and
Powerpoint opening is something I've just gotten
used to. And the temporary inaccessibility of H
drive folders is something I've learned to work
around. Sometimes just closing the finder window
and reopening it helps, and sometimes a restart
will solve the problem. So I appreciate your
willingness to come over this afternoon, but I'm
not sure if it's necessary. I'll let you know if
the problems keep happening or get worse, but for
now I think I can deal with them myself. It's
the unpredictability that I wish I understood
better, but for now it's not such a huge problem
that I can't get my work done. Thanks for
checking in and being willing to stop by, but
like I say it's not a pressing concern for now.

Ken

Hi Kenneth,

I need some additional information regarding
service request #76432

Description: *10/22 @4:00 PM or 10/23 @ 4:00 PM*
Cannot access H drive.

I'm just checking in to see if John stopped by on
Tuesday? Let me know if I can come by today to take
a look at your computer. I will need someone to
open the building door for me because the building
is closed.

Thank You,
Katherine

Hello,

John might be able to stop by Tuesday at 4:00 PM
(he's very busy with meetings). If he doesn't I
will stop by Thursday at 4:00 PM, if that works
for you.

Hi Katherine,
The problem comes and goes, and when it happens I
don't know why and then when it mysteriously
quits doing it I also don't know why. Another
problem with this computer is that it sometimes
works really slowly. For example, this morning
when I got to my office I immediately opened a
word document to work on. Opening that document
took about 4 minutes, and while it was in the
process of opening I literally couldn't do
anything else, as the mouse functions appeared to
be frozen. The same thing happened shortly after
that when I opened up a powerpoint presentation.
So it's tired and slow.

I can deal with the slowness, and I can even deal
with the temporary inaccessibility issues (so
long as it's temporary). But I do wish I knew
why the inaccessibility happens. I know you
don't want to leave your service request open
indefinitely. This week, a good time for someone
to come by would be Wednesday afternoon after
3:30. Tuesday or Thursday after 4 would also
work for me. Earlier in the day is difficult,
since most of the time I'm in the office I'm
using the computer for Zoom meetings of my
classes or for recording things for an online
class. But those late afternoon times would
work.

If John Rushing is available, he is very familiar
with this machine and has helped me trouble-shoot
things like this in the past. If John or anyone
is able to come by this week during the times
I've indicated, please let me know so that I can
plan on definitely being here. Thanks for your
help.

Hi Kenneth,

I need some additional information regarding
service request #76432

Description: Cannot access H drive.

I'm Katherine with UCS. We received a task saying
that you were having trouble accessing your H.
drive. Is this still something you are having an
issue with? If yes, can you send me a list of dates
or times where I can stop by your office. If this
doesn't work for you, our office is open 9AM -12PM
and 1PM -5PM Mon-Fri. Let me know what works for
you the most.

Thank You,
Katherine

greetings, friendly servicers,
Last week I emailed you in an alarmed state of mind because when trying to access the H drive most of my folders were inaccessible. When I tried to open them from my finder I received responses like this:

The folder “Ken's stuff” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents.

Later that same day the problem mysteriously fixed itself. I'm writing today because the same access problem is occuring at the moment. Earlier this morning it wasn't happening, but now it is.

So I'm just wondering if you have any idea why this random inaccessibility is happening. Not being able to access my files makes it very challenging to perform my teaching work. The unpredictability of the problem makes the situation very frustrating.

Please let me know if you have any ideas. Thank you.
