got it working, it was (probably) the adapter. took a white apple ucs adapter over there; forgot to bring back the other one

Macbook pro is hooked up to dell monitor. 
Everything working fine previously. But now 
keyboard and mouse are not appearing in the 
monitor. Monitor is working fine though.
