Tried several boot strategies, reset the SMC and the 
NVRAM, booted in recovery mode several times, and 
it's still not working.

booted up and is now asking for an agreement to 
download the new OS. Shall I go ahead with that or

I managed to reboot in recovery mode but the Disk 
Utility couldn't load the disk.
Tried to reboot in Internet Recovery mode but it 
wouldn't finish booting.
Suspect the hard drive is shot.

While assisting new staff member William Mcdonald-
Newman in Terry House he pointed out that his iMac 
20140646[Edit Inv] is completely inoperable. I verified that 
on powerup, this iMac just flashes a 'no' sign on 
the screen.
