swapped out the hdd in 20184180[Edit Inv] with an nvme, and installed + configured assure id & dscontrolpoint on it.

looked like it was running well so far but:
- everyone will have to set up dscontrolpoint on their own profiles again; will keep an eye out for if they need support
- forgot to add the printers lol so they might need help w that
- gonna hold onto old hdd for 2-3 weeks and then close ticket afterwards!

To minimize downtime, the plan is to swap the hdds of the current info desk computer with an alternate drive to try to resolve the performance issues.

I've already prepared a computer of the same model with DSControlpoint installed, but AssureID can't be installed until the swap. During the swap is when we'll remove the license on the current info desk computer before swapping the drives and installing it on the new hdd.

Reached out to discuss if they wanted to perform the swap before the weekend, but didn't hear back so we're gonna try to get it done monday :)

updating overnight could be good, but i'm not sure if all the updates could be done (since we often have to recheck for updates and restart, etc.), and she said something about not being able to run updates on a different computer because she needed admin rights.

i went over there.

one supervisor was gone and the other in a meeting. it sounds like the computer is just running slow.
they might have been shutting it off at night, which might have prevented updates, which might be the problem?

butttt the student workers won't be able to do their job if we take their computer or even just have it spend time updating. so we have few options here.

i still need to talk to john about this; a possibility could be installing software on a loaner and taking the wuc computer back to the office. but there would probably be issues with licenses, etc.
there might be more, but the two software on the computer i know about are the id one and one that allows them to access cameras.

the student worker i talked to said the computer was old; it had been there since she started working in 2015 (...which i doubt is true because it's at 2018 computer... but it was probably switched out when she wasn't there.)

anyway. yeah.

contacts to discuss options with:
sarah lockwood (direct supervisor, first contact)

The CPU at the Information Desk in the Werner
University Center is running slow. WOU#20181480[Edit Inv].
It takes a long time to login and load everything.
In addition, all the internet search engines
(Chrome, Firefox and Internet Edge) take a long
time to load as well as Assure ID card software.
Sometimes Assure ID has to be exited a couple
times before it loads on a 3rd or 4th time. This
is for all student employees that use this
computer.

Please have a tech come out to take a look at the
computer. We have big events on Friday and
Saturday this week, that will be important for
this computer to be running well.
