stopped by the cottage today and resolved the error!

+ reconfigured 20150421[Edit Inv] (UA-Wolf) to prioritize using the larger tray 2 for standard prints, 
and tray 1 as backup / flexible option for alternative formats
+ verified printer would correctly prioritize supply trays and will now print even if tray 1 is empty :)

ref note for future troubleshooting: 
if config page won't print, there is a separate setting on what tray source the printer uses for configuration pages, separate from standard tray settings :')

UA-Wolf printer is not printing. There is paper but it's not going. Error on actual printer: says "paper not available". They've tried putting in different type of paper.
