Thanks for the update and your willingness to work with me in customizing the laptop. I think you are correct about Kathy's recommendation about the VPN icon. I believe they had difficulty logging in remotely (wasn't able to do it) and the icon was added to make the login simpler for them.

If you could email me when the computer is set up, I would appreciate it (Note: Kathy is back at work and will be in office M-TH next week).

Thanks

Good Morning,

I will look into adding VPN to your laptop. Essentially, VPN makes your computer think it is on the WOU campus when it's not, allowing you to access normal resources you would be able to when connected to WOU's network on campus. My assumption is that Kathy is recommending I install VPN on your computer and show you how to use it so it is easier to work remotely.

Additionally, due to unexpected staff absences and other circumstances, I will not be able to deliver your computer and system this week. I sincerely apologize for this. I will do my best to deliver and set it up as soon as possible.

I hope you are doing well. Thank you for your patience.

Respectfully,

Lauryn Aronson

Kathy suggested that I request that a VPN icon be put on the computer in case I ever need to log in remotely. Not sure what the icon does but they said it helped simplify their login. Do you know what she meant?

Thanks for your help. There is nothing on the old drive that I need but I would appreciate it if you would 'wipe' it clean. I might have some old tests on it or confidential information about students. You might wait until later in the week to install it. Kathy is out sick (they are the ones most likely to be available to let you in) but I think they will be back on Wednesday. Thanks again. MWM.

Good Morning,

Thank you for your email.

MS Office and Google Chrome are installed. We have a new monitor for you, but we will remove (replace) only one of your old ones, so you will still have two monitors. I am not sure if we will be able to provide an old-style monitor connection type (DVI/VGA), though I will see what I can do. The laptop is a PC. You should have plenty of USB ports between your laptop and your dock. The laptop is able to connect to WiFi. It has a headphone audio port. We are able to provide you with a CD player.

Yes, I can set it up in WH 210 without you there. Thank you for the clarification as to which desk you use.

Is your old computer ready for me to take back to the UCS office (i.e. is everything saved from your desktop to your WOU network drives?)? Once I take it back, we will keep it untouched for two weeks in case there was something you previously forgot to save.

I hope you are well.

Thank you,

Lauryn Aronson

MS Office installed.
Chrome installed.
He has admin rights.
He currently has two monitors; will replace one with new monitor so he still has two.
Could maybe use adapter so it will connect between DP port on dock and DVI/VGA on monitor?
NOTE: BRING EXTRA DISPLAY CORDS (VARIETY)
It's a PC.
Combined, the whole system has eight USB ports, though at least two will be used. He should be fine on USB.
NOTE: ENSURE WIFI CONNECTED/GIVE INSTRUCTIONS
It has a headphone plug in.
We can loan him a CD player.
NOTE: ENSURE CD PLAYER WORKS WITH LAPTOP (SINCE IT IS AN APPLE)

Yes, can set up without him there. Only thing is WiFi, though can provide instructions.
Ask about old desktop (ready for pickup?).

I would need Microsoft Office on the computer (Word and Excel particularly). I also use Google Chrome as a browser. I would be the only one needing admin rights. I prefer having at least a two monitor capability (can you keep one or both of the monitors I currently have in WH210?). In other words, the ability to connect to at least one external monitor (I am an old guy so I need a big screen). One old style monitor connection type is a plus (although probably hard to get on a new computer, if a laptop). Please make it a pc not Apple. I use multiple flash drives (and on occasion other devices) so hopefully it will have more than one USB port (four would be nice). Wireless capability is also desired. A headphone plug in also would be nice. A DVD/CD player is also desirable. Many of these things I'm sure are standard.

Can you set it up in West House 210 without me there? Kathy or Bojan could let you in. Let me know if I have to be there for installation. There are two desks in WH210 but I am the only one currently using the office (my desk is the one closest to the door). Now that Christmas is over, I will check my email more frequently so if you need more information please let me know.

Thanks

Hi Michael,

I need some additional information regarding service request #78488

Description: GFA replacing 20141259[Edit Inv]

Your computer has been imaged/updated and is ready to be delivered and set up. Do you need any special software installed? Will anyone besides you need admin rights?

Please let me know if you would prefer to pick up your laptop and other equipment or have it delivered and set up. When would you be available for this?

I hope you are well.

Thank you,

Lauryn Aronson
