That laptop is still under warranty. You might 
need to have John or Monica run some deeper 
diagnostics on it to find the issue. I'm not 
willing to replace a 2019 laptop still under 
warranty if we can get to the bottom of the issue. 
Please work with them to try to determine the 
issue. If she has a computer that is working for 
her now, she should be good. Let's try to get the 
20190858[Edit Inv] laptop working if possible.

I have a laptop that was brought in because it was 
freezing for the user. I couldn't get it to 
replicate the issue, so I gave it back to her. She 
brought it in a couple of days later for the same 
problem. I was talking to her about options, and 
she told me she was given the old director's 
laptop and a new one would be purchased for the 
new ED/VP. (This is all in the ticket.)

So, basically, the user has a laptop associated 
with a different position than hers, and we have a 
laptop I'm not sure what to do with. What are your 
thoughts?

Hi Lauryn, 

Thank you for working on this with me. 

I spoke with our interim director (Cara Groshong) 
and she has given me our old director's laptop. 
When the new ED/VP is hired we will then be 
purchasing them a new laptop through foundation.

Cara is in the middle of audit right now. Is there 
anything I need to do to get everything set up 
with this new laptop?

seems like adding more thermal grease did the trick. 
computer is much cooler. going to let her know she 
can pick it up.

issues: screen not turning on for, like, 5 
minutes, though keyboard is lighting up. it then 
says the time is not set. clicking "continue" 
takes it to the main screen. 

replaced the thermal grease. does not seem to be 
helping with the heating problem. we will see.

Hi Lauryn, 

It was also overheating causing the fan to run too 
high and melt the bottom piece of plastic off. 
Were you able to check on that as well?

issue/to prevent damage to the battery

unplugged for the weekend. had issues turning on. 
it either died or was close to dying; had to plug 
it in to get it to turn on. then, for a few 
minutes, the screen wouldn't turn on. first it was 
black; then, it said the time wasn't set; then, it 
finally turned on. 

no new updates. will look at it periodically 
throughout the day. have not been able to 
replicate freezing issue. unsure if temperature is 
normal for this type of laptop. 

from what i remember, all diagnostics passed (both 
the first and second time i ran them).

the freezing and the heat could have been two 
things:

i'm honestly not sure if she brought this charger 
in with her, but we have a 130ish watt charger. 
this could have been causing at least some issues. 

secondly, there was dust and dirt inside the 
computer; oneil cleaned it up.

according to the user, the computer was getting so 
hot the rubbery base was expanding? which sounds 
like a battery or fan issue? maybe? running 
diagnostics again.

she says it would randomly start freezing and heat 
up to the point where the rubber expands. She 
speculated that maybe it was because she had too 
many things running but even when she had one tab 
open it would freeze up.

tried to image it. didn't have normal imaging 
options. will either give it back to user since 
problem wasn't replicated or try to investigate why 
it is not imaging.
