Hi Denise,

I need some additional information regarding service
request #79608

Description: InDesign opening files as 'read only'

I was reading the notes for your service request and
I don't think we tried updating your adobe apps. If
you open the creative cloud app and sign in with your
WOU email "@wou.edu" and your portal password it
should automatically do updates. I would leave this
open for a while to fully finish these updates.

Also, if you are on campus anytime we can visit your
office or you could visit the UCS office and we can
troubleshoot your computer.

Thanks,
Jose

I don't think anything can be done - I think I
just keep getting disconnected from the servers
throughout the day. As long as I save everything
on my desktop, I don't get the read-only messages
as frequently.

Or the "file is locked" message, typically on
photos I recently worked on.

I restarted my computer a couple of times today,
but have been getting this message (below)
throughout the morning. It goes away fairly
quickly, starts over at 12 seconds..

Hi Denise,

What drive/ folder are you opening the files from?
If we can get that then Dave will be able to reset
the permissions on the drive and hopefully that
will fix the issue.

Thanks,
Justin

It's still happening, but not as frequently. Only
once or twice per day. I have to save as, then
delete the original, and rename the new copy each
time.
Best,

Denise Visuano

Hi Denise,

I need some additional information regarding service
request #79608

Description: InDesign opening files as 'read only'

I was talking to John about what we can do for your
computer and he was saying that it sounds like Adobe
is kinda keeping a phantom file open which is why
things keep opening in read only mode. He said the
easiest way to fix it is to just do a restart and
that should make it stop doing it. If you want we
can also set up a time to meet up with you whenever
you are free as well.

Thanks,
Justin Cope

This is odd - why am I only able to open InDesign
files as [Read-Only]?

I have to "save as" everytime I open a file. I'm
ending up with 6 versions of one document...that I
can still only open in Read Only format.

I tried closing and reopening Creative Cloud, and
restarting my computer.

****
I closed everything and reopened the software, and
now it seems to be reading the files correctly.
I'll bug you if it starts happening again...I
wasn't sure if it's because I've been taking the
laptop home two days a week, and connecting via
Cisco AnyConnect. (Still saving the files to the
network from home, and opening them here when
connected to the servers...?)

I'm going on vacation tomorrow - so I'll check
back if I need to next week.

****
I'm getting the [Read-Only] message again. I
created a new document this morning, saved it and
exported a pdf. Then I edited it - and the tab
title changed to "Read-Only" while it was still
open. It happened to both files that I had open.

InDesign also gives me an error message when I try
to save over the pdf with the same name. Even if
I've closed Acrobat before re-exporting the file.
