So I’ve got a slightly new problem. The “trial” on Camtasia on my new machine has ended. So now I can’t even do the recording on my new machine. It says something like “sorry trial has ended” and I need to buy the software.

I had a process going where I was recording with the new machine (because the audio is much better and its where I’m doing most of my work now) and then I would do the export on my old machine so that the water mark didn’t happen. Now I can’t even do the recording and I’m having to try to record on the old machine. This is extra hard when using slides developed on the newer Powerpoint which sometimes doesn’t show up right on the older Mac with the old power point version. 

I know the term is almost done I’m still producing video lectures. Is there anything UCS can do to help? Can I borrow a another Mac laptop like my new machine just for the Camtasia (just for the next two weeks or so until we get my machine’s Camtasia fixed)?

We tried getting camtasia to work on her new computer, still unable to. She really needs camtasia on her old one so we're holding off until winter term to get this issue resolved.

Hi Jacob,

Thanks for the quick reply. In addition to the 
three issues identified below, I can’t seem to 
connect to WOU Secure with my new machine this 
morning. It says it is online, but not even a 
google search works. My 2015 machine is operating 
(thank goodness or I wouldn’t be able to work). I 
tried restarting the new computer, but this didn’t 
fix anything. I’ll need help fixing this as it 
makes my new computer completely un-usable.

With regards to the other three items:

1) Glad this can be fixed quickly. I need Camtasia 
for teaching my current classes.

2) My new bag did not come with a shoulder strap. 
I’d either like that missing item delivered or 
would like my old bag back. Also if WOU is really 
concerned about tracking inventory on an item of 
such low value as these bags (which seems like a 
poor use of time), then UCS should consider a 
better tagging system as currently you are putting 
ID tags on disposable paper board. 

3) Oneil said he would look for the adapter and 
send me an email later in the day. That hasn’t 
happened yet which is okay, but I just wanted to 
keep this on the list so we didn’t lose track of 
it.  The point of the new computer was that I 
would be able to run both monitors, but it doesn’t 
seem like I have the hardware at present to do so.

Hey Ava,

I will forward this to them. They won't be 
available until 2:30. To give more information on 
your requests:

1) Depending on which version of Camtasia was 
installed, the software key should be a quick fix.

2) Normally every bag comes with a shoulder strap, 
but if yours doesn't have one then we can give you 
back the old one. The bags typically have a WOU 
number attached to them and keeping each bag with 
the specific laptop is preferred.

3) I can't really say much about this, the adapter 
should have been taken care of for you, depending 
on what adapter you need it may need to go through 
purchasing of the department. I assume this is the 
case and why they didn't just quickly retrieve the 
adapter. Our purchasing person came back from 
vacation today, so I will ask them about it.

I will check in with the techs as soon as they are 
in the office, and help get this resolved for you.

Hi Oneil and Lauryn,

I’m sending this email to make sure I’m 
communicating with everyone. I’m requesting that

1) someone fix the install on my Camtasia on my 
new machine. It doesn’t seem to be fully installed 
and is asking for a software key.

2) I’m requesting I be given back my old laptop 
bag that I was made to give over or I’d like the 
shoulder strap for the new bag. This is an 
important feature for me and I’m still unclear why 
I was forced to exchange bags.

3) I’m requesting that I be given an adapter to be 
able to use the multi monitor feature.

From what I read, you are able to install the rest 
with admin rights; did I understand this 
correctly?
Yes, I think I can do Dropbox, Cisco AnyConnect, R 
Studio, Li6400 software downloads. 

Additionally, it appears you are the only one who 
needs admin rights? 
Yes. 

You should have no problem connecting to Mac Mail 
or using two monitors with this laptop. If you do 
come across any issues, we are happy to help you 
resolve them.

It is possible for you to temporarily keep the 
2015 machine. And we apologize for not being able 
to replace your newer laptop sooner; it took 
longer than we anticipated to get the new M1 Pro 
MacBooks on-site. 
No worries. I just have a heavy load this term 
with new teaching preps and can’t complete the 
migration until I have a break in my teaching 
load.

Is there anything else you need in regard to the 
new computer and equipment? 
Can I access Adobe Illustrator or does this need 
to be put on my computer? 
Can you help set it up for my local printers (NS 
Darwin, NS Copier, NS Kodachrome)? 
Would I be eligible to replace my old wireless 
mouse (was part of my office workstation set-up at 
hiring over a decade ago) with a new mouse that is 
comparable?


Would you prefer to pick up the laptop or have it 
delivered? When would be a good time for you?
Could you deliver it during week 2 and help me set 
it up with the two monitors? Can we do Wednesday 
or Friday afternoon on Oct 5 or 7th?

Just to confirm, so she is OK with us taking back the 20200786[Edit Inv] laptop now, but would like to keep the 20150201[Edit Inv] machine until she can transfer the files over? If so, I am fine with that. Please express our apologies for not being able to replace her newer laptop sooner. There were significant procurement delays getting the new M1 pro MacBooks here. It just took longer than we anticipated to get them on-site.

Thanks for reaching out. The only software that comes to mind right away is Camtasia for video editing. I know I’ll need that added by you. I think everything else is downloads (eg.SAS, VLC, R Studio, CiscoAnyConnect, Dropbox, etc). As long as I am set up as an administrator on my machine I should be able to put most stuff I need onto it and get it hooked up with my iCloud account (where I keep most of my files). I am a Mac Mail user - that should already be on there - I’m hoping it will be straightforward to connect my WOU G-mail account to Mac Mail.  

That said, this is not a good month for me for switching computers. We had discussed doing this computer change in July, or August, and now it sounds like September. I have some family obligations this month and a very heavy lift to get ready for fall classes with some semi-new course preps. You all are probably swamped too I would guess. However, I am super excited for my new machine!!!

Would it be possible for you to bring the new machine, take the machine I was given in spring, but not take my old 2015 machine until I have time (likely in December) to move everything off of it? Let me know what you think. 

One of the main reasons for changing to this new computer is so that I can hook up two screens. I don’t know if you need to install any particular software on the computer to make that work. I have two screens in my office right now, one is the current DELL model you are giving out (tag#: 20200782), and the other is an old Mac monitor (20081112) that may need an adapter to be hooked into the system (if it can be compatible at all).  If the Mac monitor is not compatible then I will need a second DELL monitor.
