Hi Kenneth,

I need some additional information regarding service request #81809

Description: Macbook can't connect to mobile hotspot 

I am emailing because I didn't get a response to my last one - 


Are you able to see your iphone hotspot on the network menu when you open up the wifi menu? Or, does it show up and just not connect? Or, does it connect and simply not have internet access?

The laptop I have been provided with is not 
working for me.  As I have explained before, since 
UCS updated the operating system on the machine 
last week I am no longer able to use my phone as a 
hotspot when working from home. This means of 
connecting to the internet so that I can log in to 
Portal and do work for the university has been 
working for me for several years, until the 
changes made by UCS last week. But now it doesn’t 
work. 

Please help me.  I am hired by the university to 
teach classes, and the so called solution you 
provided for me last week is making it extremely 
difficult for me to do this work.  You call 
yourself University Computing Solutions.  What do 
I have to do to get a solution? So far all I have 
received is a problem.

Following advice I received yesterday, I have 
updated my phone to the most recent Apple IOS.  
Sadly, this has not changed the fact that the 
laptop is still not recognizing the phone as a 
hotspot.  This is a problem for me, so I still 
need help with it.  If necessary, I'd like to go 
back to the older operating system on the laptop, 
since that did allow me to use my phone as a 
hotspot.  It worked until last week, and once the 
laptop was updated it stopped working.  Please let 
me know how a solution can be found, since as it 
stands the equipment you've provided for me to use 
makes it impossible for me to do the work that the 
University hires me to do.  Please help.

laptop was not seeing the hotspot, instructed Ken to 
update iPhone and try again.

Note: his mobile phone hotspot is his only source of 
internet outside of campus which is why he needs to 
be able to connect to it.

I am on campus now and will be working in my 
office (303 Bellamy) until about 4 today.  I 
totally understand prioritizing the network 
problems, so please don't mark my problem as 
urgent.  I'll be working on campus again tomorrow.

WOU number is 20191089[Edit Inv].  I have restarted the 
machine a couple of times since last week.  I 
believe that my phone service does provide 
unlimited data.  I've been using the phone as a 
hotspot successfully from home for the last three 
years, including with this laptop.  My ability to 
do so went away last week after the new operating 
system was installed.  -kk

Since the machine was updated to the most recent 
operating system last week, I am unable to use my 
mobile phone as a hotspot, which is the only way I 
have to connect to campus systems from home.  I'm 
pretty certain that it's a simple fix, but since 
I'm an idiot I just don't know how to do it.  I 
need help.
