he logged into 20200265[Edit Inv] just fine, and I made sure everything was set up right. He said it all looked good, made sure the WOU # was right, made sure the wifi was set with his credentials as well as on wou secure and not our wifi (wou-support).

Darryl came over to ucs and deposited his loaner macbook, 20200870[Edit Inv], with us to clone over night and put the backup on his new machine for delivery. Gave him loaner 20190855[Edit Inv] for the time being. 

Important note - kept bag from 20190855[Edit Inv] because he had a ton of stuff in his other loaner bag, so will get - 20190855[Edit Inv] with 20200870's bag and charger. I know, i know... but this was easiest to get this done the fastest.

chose gfa laptop 20200265[Edit Inv] - by my desk, updating mac os to sonoma so there is a seamless transfer of data (hopefully). Will clear a hard drive out for the backup.

Hi Darryl,

I need some additional information regarding service request #81828

Description: 20190853[Edit Inv] has repeating keys, out of warranty.

We were wanting to swap your problematic macbook out with a 2020 macbook pro - whenever you have availability, we would like you to come into UCS or we could meet you somewhere on campus to make a time machine backup of your loaner laptop to put on the replacement machine. This may take upwards of an hour. 

Also, when we swap this laptop out for a 2020, the GFA replacement date will be replaced with 2020 as well - so the laptop won't be upgradeable for an additional year.

This 2020 laptop is only capable of outputting to one monitor, as well;

if these are all fine for you, we can schedule a time to back your loaner up and install it on a 2020 macbook.

A 2020 MacBook Pro works for me.   I'm in Canada until Feb 19th.  I can stop by anytime after Feb 20th to male the swap.  Please confirm that you can transfer all the files and apps to the new device.

We reinstalled and did basically everything to try and 'fix' any software issues with this macbook; after everything, it's battery is still bad, it's trackpad is unresponsive, and there are still keys double or triple tapping. Laptop is under my desk, and we are going to talk about replacement with a similar model macbook or something like that when we come back over the break.

We need this removed from your iCloud account so we 
may sent it off to Apple and they would be able to 
work on it. To remove your macbook, login to

that the activation lock is removed.

Laptop if it does get fixed at all could potentially lose it's data because they may replace the whole bottom half, along with its ssd.

I think at this point it is worth the $20 risk to send it in and see what Apple says.  If the repair is not free, we can assess the cost of the repairs at that time.

Hello Darryl,

I inquired to apple about their options for repair. They let me know a couple things; the laptop may be able to qualify for the free repair. They would provide a box to ship it into them, and if they determine that it qualifies for the free repair, both the repair and the shipping is free. If they determine that the free repair isn't applicable, then it's $19.95 to ship it there and back, and upwards of $299 to replace the keyboard. Basically, if it isn't free, and no one is willing to pay for it to be fixed by them, it would be $20 bucks to ship it there and back to find out.

If you could relay this information to your supervisors or whoever in your department can take care of purchasing stuff, we can get approval to get receive the box or not.

Talked w/ someone from apple support over browser. They said; that they can send a box for us to ship the laptop to one of their repair things. A technician can look at it and see if it qualifies for this free fix. If it qualifies for the fix, then shipping and the fix is free. If it doesn't apply for the fix, then shipping is $19.95 (i'm assuming there and back) and upwards of $299 to replace the keyboard. She said that this could be potentially be cheaper / adjusted by the technicians. Basically, a $20 gamble to see if it can get fixed or not.

Darryl came in to show us that his laptop was having keys that were double and sometimes triple clicking, notably - his r key and e key. This laptop is out of warranty - I looked up online and it says that it may be able to be fixed for free via apple, ask John for clarification.
