I was able to get the laptop dropped off. I left 
it with one of your coworkers who was on break 
when I stopped by. If you have any issues with the 
computer feel free to let me know. I did not get a 
lot of time to ensure everything worked, but from 
what I could see everything was working well.

Good morning Jennifer,

I apologize for the inconvenience, but we don’t 
open until 8:00 am every day. The laptop is mostly 
put together, the only issue is the dents on the 
case. Unfortunately I am not at WoU campus until 
later this afternoon, so I wouldn’t be able to do 
any testing to make sure the replacement keyboard 
and the rest of the components are working 
properly.

I am able to come drop it off if that would be 
more convenient for you.

Brady,

I just saw a message from my coworker that she was 
not allowed to pick up my laptop today. I just 
returned from my vacation, and I need to leave 
campus by 7 am tomorrow with my laptop. How can I 
make arrangements to get my laptop before 7 am?

I won't need a loaner laptop while I am on vacation. As long as I can pick my laptop up early on the 11th (around 7:30), I can just get mine when I get back.

Hello Jennifer,

Yes, you are able to drop it off on the 3rd. We will have a loaner laptop ready to go for you to use in the meantime. That would be plenty of time for us to swap the keyboard on your original device; it should be ready to go by the time you get back.

Hi Jennifer,

I need some additional information regarding service request #82560

Description: Laptop keyboard needs repaired

I was able to get a quote from Dell - $33.24, however, they said they would look at making sure all the drivers are up to date. 

On your laptop, there is both windows update as well as dell command update - if you would be able to look both of these programs up through your windows search bar and make sure there are no updates to be performed, this would rule out the driver issue.

We would also be able to locate those updaters if you can't find them, that would likely be over a zoom call.

Hello Jennifer, I will have to ask our purchasing agent how much a replacement keyboard will be. As for likeliness of solving the issue, if this used to not be an issue on this laptop before and the keyboard only recently started having issues than I believe it is likely that a replacement keyboard will alleviate this, however, if the keyboard as always lacked sensitivity then replacing the keyboard may not change the keys being pressed or not. I would like it to be a more clear cut answer, but until it's actually swapped I don't believe we will know for sure. One thing I can think of is if we can bring a loaner laptop of the same model over and you can type on that keyboard as well to confirm if it's the keyboard on the model of laptop or the laptop itself. Let me know if you are interested in this, and I will attempt to attain a price for a replacement keyboard.

I need to follow up with my supervisor and see if there are funds for replacement. I was told that replacing the keyboard may or may not fix the issue. Can you tell me what the keyboard replacement cost would be, and how likely it is to resolve the problem? Then I can check in with my department about approving replacement.

After talking with our purchasing agent, we discovered that the 2020 laptop is indeed a TRI funded machine; we unfortunately do not have any of the same model laptop in our parts bin to attempt swapping a working keyboard; if you are interested in replacing the keyboard, the department will have to purchase a replacement part for us to swap into it. However, we can't guarantee that this will fix the issue as it may be a fault to the sensitivity of the keyboard itself.

Sorry Brady. I just got back to my office and saw 
this message. 

The issue is that some of my laptop keys are not 
responding well, particularly the numbers and the 
shift key. They don't register when I am typing at 
normal speed. If I go back and press the key 
firmly, it will work, but it is causing issues in 
regular typing.
