I blew the laptop out with air, and am reimaging it now. I am hoping this alleviates some performance loss.

In essence, Emily's laptop will give up the ghost and get stuck on a spinning beach ball of death after some time of her machine being open.

She says that the device ramps up and sounds like a jet and gets really hot.

She says that she has opened activity monitor at times like these and says that one thing she's noticed consistently is mac mail app sometimes pinging 90% cpu usage, and could very well be the point of failure.

I suggested that we can A; repaste and clean out the computer for any thermal situation physically,

and B: wipe the machine to a clean slate to rule out thermals or slow downs through OS / software.

She seemed okay with this. I would; clean the device, make a time machine backup of their files, then reimage the device and throw on the files if requested.

Jack,

Hi! Something has come up and I won't be able to bring my laptop in until next week. I'll let the folks at the desk know to hold on to that loaner for me (if possible) and, if you're on campus Monday afternoon, maybe we can meet up and I can try to reproduce the issue for you! It's basically an overheat related to using MacMail and accessing my H drive through the remote server. It's been better since Adobe was reinstalled but still happens on occasion. 

Just wanted to give you heads up so you can plan your workflow!

Jack,

Hi. Sorry - it’s been a week! I’ve needed it for some class stuff the past two days and will be at the HSI Summit all day tomorrow but can bring it by on Monday and pick up a loaner then, if that works. I notice it also tells me it’s not backing up because it’s running on battery power, even when I have it plugged in. 

Definitely happens when I’m running MacMail but I have a lot of messages in there. 
Anything involving the remote server for more than a few minutes seems to kick the fan on, too.

Hi Michael! Andrew (tech) worked on my laptop the other day because it kept freezing up (had been previously looked at but they couldn't reproduce the issue). He uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe, which wasn't syncing, but we also talked about the fact that my machine gets very hot very quickly. That continues to be the case, even when it's in sleep mode.
