He's putting in for a new laptop and would like his files to be moved over to the new machine.

I think we can do this with a time machine backup, and I have explained he can come in anytime to get files off before that.

Hi Gareth,

I need some additional information regarding service request #83396

Description: Cannot print from macbook on NS-Copier or NS-Electron

You can put in a purchase request at

https://www.wou.edu/purchaserequest

I believe your setup would qualify for an upgrade.

We would be able to move your new files onto the new machine in this case.

Would that work for you?

Hello,

I apologize for keeping bugging you about this.
However, I am just following up on this again, as
it has been another three days and I am starting
to need many of the files that I have on my iMac
(I only sent myself a subset of my files because I
thought that I would only be without my computer
for a couple of days).

Has UCS decided that the only choice is to reimage
my machine? If so, can they save all of my
existing files? Also, if that is the case, I would
like to just put in a request for a new machine
via the portal and have all my old files
transferred to that machine, so please let me know
if that is where we are at.

Thanks so much,

Gareth

Hi Sam,

Thanks for your email.

All of the documents and files on there will need
to be saved. Can you please create a hard drive
backup of everything? There were also some pieces
of software that were loaded on there when I first
started at WOU that are not standard, so those
applications will need to also be saved.

If the only option ends up being that you need to
reimage the entire device, I think I will just put
in for a new computer because I am due an upgrade
anyways, so please let me know if that is what you
end up deciding to do, and I will put in a request
for a new computer.

Thanks,

Gareth

Hi Gareth,
Our techs are still currently working on enrolling
your device to our network, for some reason it is
having a lot of trouble doing so. Our techs are
currently considering reimaging the device.
Do you have any files or documents that need to be
saved? Reimaging the device would wipe all its
data stored so we want to check in with you to see
if that is something we can proceed with.
Let us know when you can!
Best,Sam

Maybe we could make a time machine back up of his profile, and then re-image the device properly and throw his time machine back on, I think our enrollment settings may stay over that way.

Hi UCS,

I am wondering what is the status on my iMac which
was taken from my office (NS021B) for repairs on
Wednesday afternoon? If you could please let me
know ASAP I would appreciate it.

Thanks so much,

Gareth

Computer doesn't take the current ucsadmin password,
it takes the previous one.
It was last enrolled in jamf in 2018.

Tried running jamf recon, reenroll -prompt, and
policy, none worked. Either gave permissions or
device signature errors. Also disconnected and
reconnected from mash and double checked the
active directory settings to make sure they were
set correctly

unbind or rebind did nothing; readding printers did nothing; printing from VDI worked. John is telling me that there is a sudo jamf 'renew' or similar command to refresh the policy on the machine or something like that. If its not connecting to JAMF, it won't unbind or rebind and probably is not seen by our print servers or something like that.

May not be on domain properly, may also possibly be: if you take the laptop home and login / start it up on your home network, then say, take it to WOU to our network without restarting first, it is like you are still on your home network and you can restart first. That way, restarting on our network properly configures your login info and thus access to the printers.

Gareth called just now to say that he is unable to
print anything to either NS-Copier, or NS-
Electron, and that any attempt he made would pull
up the print log screen on his mac, and then it
would be stuck at waiting to print / paused and
would never go.

He confirmed that no matter what he printed from
on his mac, it did the same thing, and that re-
adding the printers did not do anyhting (i
confirmed he added the right drivers). I had him
check the printer itself and none of his jobs are
logged in the job history.
