I believe removing Sophos and editing the registry
now allows power options to be changed correctly.
This is on the Tech Desk by the window. Let's
return it to Alyssa and see if her problem is
remedied.

20230588[Edit Inv] and it's charger are in box 11. Ask Michael
to see if it has something to do with the group
policy.

We made the local account an admin on 20170347[Edit Inv] but
we ending up bringing 20230588[Edit Inv] back to UCS because
we could not get smart charging to turn off. We
tried doing it through BIOS along with power
settings.

Hello again!

I just wanted to check on this. Are techs planning
to come to the office or do I need to bring the
laptop to you? I actually realized we need admin
access added to another of our transcribing
laptops (with a local account) - 20170347[Edit Inv] - so I
will bring that one along too.

Please let me know if the techs have an ETA or if
I need to bring the laptops to you.

Thanks!
Alyssa

It is a WOU device, 20230588[Edit Inv]. I am leaving campus
for the day but will be back tomorrow and can
either bring it in or have one of your techs come
to me.

Hello Alyssa,
I went ahead and opened a ticket (#87666.) Our
techs will look into it as soon as possible. Is
this device a personal device, or one you got from
the school?

Hello Lily,

My transcribing laptop is a Dell Latitude 3450,
not a Surface. I downloaded the app but it doesn't
give any options for disabling the smart charge
function as the laptop isn't a Surface device.

I have looked at all of the options under Power &
Battery and Power Plan Settings. There is no
option to disable it there. I've clicked on Learn
More next to "Smart charging is on" in the Power &
Battery menu. That takes you to Microsoft's
website with information on turning off Smart
Charging. The Surface app is an option for Surface
devices. For other devices, it says to consult the
manufacturer's website. I have done so and it said
I needed to change it in the BIOS settings for a
Dell laptop, changing it to Standard, which I have
done. I also tried doing a custom plan under the
BIOS and that also didn't work.

Thank you.

Hello Alyssa,
It sounds like you'll be able to temporarily turn
it off with the "Surface" app by following these
instructions:
Open the Surface App: Click the Start button and
select the Surface app.
Access Battery & Charging: Navigate to the
"Battery & charging" settings within the Surface
app.
Pause Smart Charging: Under the "Smart charging"
section, select "Charge to 100%" to pause it.
Smart Charging will resume: Smart charging will be
paused until your Surface needs it again, such as
when you're traveling, attending long meetings, or
in a situation where an outlet might be limited.
If you've already tried this, please give us a
list of the things you've tried and we can open a
service request ticket for you.

Hello!

I just updated my transcribing laptop to Windows
11 and it enabled the smart charging function.
I've tried everything I can think of and have
found online to turn it off and nothing is working
-- there is no option to disable it in Power
Settings and I've also tried enabling Standard
Charging through BIOS setup without any luck. The
majority of the transcribing laptop's work time is
from battery, not plugged in, and I need it to
fully charge in order to make it through long days
of transcribing classes. Could you help me get
smart charging turned off?

Thanks so much!
Alyssa
