WEBVTT 00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:05.000 music 00:00:05.000 --> 00:00:08.000 alright hi everybody alright my name is 00:00:08.000 --> 00:00:11.000 Lonny Knotts -- I work for the 00:00:11.000 --> 00:00:12.000 Oregon Board of Licensed 00:00:12.000 --> 00:00:14.000 Professional Counselors and Therapists 00:00:14.000 --> 00:00:15.000 I'm the guy that 00:00:15.000 --> 00:00:17.000 you're going to talk to that 00:00:17.000 --> 00:00:18.000 you're going to bother that 00:00:18.000 --> 00:00:19.000 you're gonna do whatever you 00:00:19.000 --> 00:00:21.000 need to do in order to get 00:00:21.000 --> 00:00:23.000 licensed okay -- you'll notice 00:00:23.000 --> 00:00:25.000 that on my card there was also 00:00:25.000 --> 00:00:27.000 another email address 00:00:27.000 --> 00:00:31.000 Natalie Altermatt is my alter ego 00:00:31.000 --> 00:00:33.000 okay so I can be 00:00:33.000 --> 00:00:36.000 a -- in all honesty I can 00:00:36.000 --> 00:00:37.000 be tough to get ahold of 00:00:37.000 --> 00:00:39.000 alright so there are sometimes 00:00:39.000 --> 00:00:40.000 that you need to call Natalie 00:00:40.000 --> 00:00:42.000 and she'll tell you I'm at my desk and 00:00:42.000 --> 00:00:44.000 she'll transfer your phone calls 00:00:44.000 --> 00:00:46.000 to me alright because I'm on the phone 00:00:46.000 --> 00:00:48.000 five six hours a day talking 00:00:48.000 --> 00:00:51.000 to everybody alright a little 00:00:51.000 --> 00:00:52.000 bit about myself so you know where 00:00:52.000 --> 00:00:54.000 I'm coming from I'm a paralegal 00:00:54.000 --> 00:00:57.000 by trade I'm an Army veteran 00:00:57.000 --> 00:00:59.000 I have a master's in business 00:00:59.000 --> 00:00:61.000 and I've been with the Board for ten 00:01:01.000 --> 00:01:03.000 years alright so I -- what 00:01:03.000 --> 00:01:05.000 I don't know I'll find out 00:01:05.000 --> 00:01:06.000 for you but everything else I 00:01:06.000 --> 00:01:08.000 basically know okay so if you got 00:01:08.000 --> 00:01:10.000 questions that's great alright I'm 00:01:10.000 --> 00:01:14.000 gonna put up the website here 00:01:14.000 --> 00:01:15.000 alright we're going to apply 00:01:15.000 --> 00:01:18.000 for a license alright you're 00:01:18.000 --> 00:01:19.000 going to be applying for registered 00:01:19.000 --> 00:01:22.000 internship and if you go down 00:01:22.000 --> 00:01:24.000 here you will see intern 00:01:24.000 --> 00:01:26.000 registration here are all the 00:01:26.000 --> 00:01:28.000 forms that you're going to need 00:01:28.000 --> 00:01:30.000 in order to get licensed okay 00:01:30.000 --> 00:01:31.000 and I'm going to go through 00:01:31.000 --> 00:01:33.000 each one of these real quickly 00:01:33.000 --> 00:01:34.000 normally I take about an hour 00:01:34.000 --> 00:01:35.000 hour and half to do this and 00:01:35.000 --> 00:01:37.000 answer your questions I'm gonna 00:01:37.000 --> 00:01:39.000 do it in about thirty okay so 00:01:39.000 --> 00:01:41.000 here we go first one is the 00:01:41.000 --> 00:01:42.000 application by the way there 00:01:42.000 --> 00:01:43.000 are only seven things you 00:01:43.000 --> 00:01:45.000 need to do in order to get 00:01:45.000 --> 00:01:47.000 registered with the Board the 00:01:47.000 --> 00:01:49.000 first one is the application 00:01:49.000 --> 00:01:52.000 page one is mostly demographic 00:01:52.000 --> 00:01:54.000 information who you are social 00:01:54.000 --> 00:01:56.000 security number date of birth 00:01:56.000 --> 00:01:57.000 where you're going to work if you 00:01:57.000 --> 00:01:58.000 know where you're going to work 00:01:58.000 --> 00:01:60.000 because when you first submit this 00:02:00.000 --> 00:02:01.000 you may not know where you're 00:02:01.000 --> 00:02:03.000 going to work alright there 00:02:03.000 --> 00:02:04.000 is the most important thing on 00:02:04.000 --> 00:02:06.000 this particular piece of paper 00:02:06.000 --> 00:02:08.000 at least for you and I and 00:02:08.000 --> 00:02:12.000 that is your email address I 00:02:12.000 --> 00:02:15.000 do a lot of business by email 00:02:15.000 --> 00:02:17.000 and I can tell you most of you 00:02:17.000 --> 00:02:21.000 have crappy handwriting so very 00:02:21.000 --> 00:02:24.000 neatly write your email address 00:02:24.000 --> 00:02:25.000 because if I can't get ahold 00:02:25.000 --> 00:02:28.000 of you we can't talk you can put a 00:02:28.000 --> 00:02:30.000 phone number down there but you 00:02:30.000 --> 00:02:31.000 guys are just as hard to get 00:02:31.000 --> 00:02:33.000 ahold of as I am so we start 00:02:33.000 --> 00:02:34.000 communicating by email and that's 00:02:34.000 --> 00:02:36.000 always the best way to do it 00:02:36.000 --> 00:02:39.000 alright so page one pretty darn 00:02:39.000 --> 00:02:42.000 easy email address very very 00:02:42.000 --> 00:02:45.000 legible please on page two the 00:02:45.000 --> 00:02:48.000 only thing that I care about 00:02:48.000 --> 00:02:50.000 is that you have a mental health counseling 00:02:50.000 --> 00:02:51.000 degree and you went to 00:02:51.000 --> 00:02:53.000 Western Oregon oh and that it's 00:02:53.000 --> 00:02:56.000 CACREP accredited guess 00:02:56.000 --> 00:02:58.000 what -- congratulate yourselves 00:02:58.000 --> 00:02:60.000 on that because being in a CACREP 00:03:00.000 --> 00:03:02.000 accredited program means you're 00:03:02.000 --> 00:03:05.000 education goes everywhere 00:03:05.000 --> 00:03:07.000 alright the only thing you might 00:03:07.000 --> 00:03:09.000 have to do some states have a 00:03:09.000 --> 00:03:12.000 little bit of -- CEU requirement 00:03:12.000 --> 00:03:13.000 you know sometimes 00:03:13.000 --> 00:03:15.000 sexual harassment sometimes 00:03:15.000 --> 00:03:18.000 CPR I mean they have some extra 00:03:18.000 --> 00:03:20.000 little requirements that you 00:03:20.000 --> 00:03:21.000 have to do in order to get licensed 00:03:21.000 --> 00:03:23.000 but no more graduate work 00:03:23.000 --> 00:03:24.000 because you got a CACREP 00:03:24.000 --> 00:03:26.000 accredited agree aright and by 00:03:26.000 --> 00:03:27.000 the way congratulations we're here 00:03:27.000 --> 00:03:31.000 so that means you guys must be close 00:03:31.000 --> 00:03:33.000 alright so that's all I care 00:03:33.000 --> 00:03:35.000 about here I'm gonna do a little side thing 00:03:35.000 --> 00:03:37.000 before I go to page three we're 00:03:37.000 --> 00:03:39.000 gonna talk about the exams real 00:03:39.000 --> 00:03:40.000 quick you can take the 00:03:40.000 --> 00:03:44.000 National Counselor's Exam NCE you can take 00:03:44.000 --> 00:03:46.000 the NCMHCE which is 00:03:46.000 --> 00:03:47.000 the National Clinical Mental 00:03:47.000 --> 00:03:50.000 Health Counselor's Exam 00:03:50.000 --> 00:03:52.000 or you can take the CRC alright 00:03:52.000 --> 00:03:55.000 Certified Rehabilitation Counselor 00:03:55.000 --> 00:03:58.000 okay now because you 00:03:58.000 --> 00:03:60.000 all are here and you probably 00:04:00.000 --> 00:04:01.000 are in the rehabilitation 00:04:01.000 --> 00:04:03.000 counseling program that's 00:04:03.000 --> 00:04:05.000 a very acceptable one because 00:04:05.000 --> 00:04:06.000 you're going through a CACREP 00:04:06.000 --> 00:04:08.000 accredited program the 00:04:08.000 --> 00:04:11.000 NCMHCE may benefit you down 00:04:11.000 --> 00:04:14.000 the road because about 00:04:14.000 --> 00:04:16.000 three years ago CACREP 00:04:16.000 --> 00:04:19.000 and -- the Veterans Administration 00:04:19.000 --> 00:04:21.000 made a deal where 00:04:21.000 --> 00:04:24.000 LPCs will be able to bill 00:04:24.000 --> 00:04:25.000 TRICARE directly which is the 00:04:25.000 --> 00:04:28.000 veterans medical insurance 00:04:28.000 --> 00:04:29.000 which means you don't have to 00:04:29.000 --> 00:04:30.000 get anyone to sign off on 00:04:30.000 --> 00:04:32.000 it and they accept you because 00:04:32.000 --> 00:04:33.000 you went to CACREP accredited 00:04:33.000 --> 00:04:36.000 program and you took the NCMHCE 00:04:36.000 --> 00:04:38.000 alright so it's a 00:04:38.000 --> 00:04:40.000 good benefit to have and as 00:04:40.000 --> 00:04:42.000 a registered intern that 00:04:42.000 --> 00:04:43.000 makes it even better because 00:04:43.000 --> 00:04:46.000 you may be able to do that also 00:04:46.000 --> 00:04:48.000 a second insurance real quick 00:04:48.000 --> 00:04:50.000 is Oregon Health Administration 00:04:50.000 --> 00:04:53.000 now allows registered interns 00:04:53.000 --> 00:04:56.000 to bill -- Oregon Health Plan 00:04:56.000 --> 00:04:58.000 alright there's some stuff you have to 00:04:58.000 --> 00:04:59.000 to do in order to do that 00:04:59.000 --> 00:04:61.000 but you are eligible to bill 00:05:01.000 --> 00:05:05.000 the Oregon Health Plan 00:05:05.000 --> 00:05:08.000 on page three all these 00:05:08.000 --> 00:05:10.000 questions there -- some of them are good 00:05:10.000 --> 00:05:13.000 some of them are bad if any of these 00:05:13.000 --> 00:05:15.000 are a yes answer I need an 00:05:15.000 --> 00:05:18.000 explanation alright number 00:05:18.000 --> 00:05:20.000 nine have you ever been cited 00:05:20.000 --> 00:05:22.000 arrested for or charged with 00:05:22.000 --> 00:05:24.000 convicted of you know you guys 00:05:24.000 --> 00:05:26.000 are in a career field where 00:05:26.000 --> 00:05:29.000 forgiveness is paramount so 00:05:29.000 --> 00:05:31.000 answer yes let me know what 00:05:31.000 --> 00:05:33.000 was on there and most of the 00:05:33.000 --> 00:05:35.000 time they don't care what they will 00:05:35.000 --> 00:05:36.000 care about is if you 00:05:36.000 --> 00:05:38.000 check no and it's actually 00:05:38.000 --> 00:05:41.000 yes alright so list it 00:05:41.000 --> 00:05:43.000 give me a good explanation 00:05:43.000 --> 00:05:45.000 shouldn't be any issues 00:05:45.000 --> 00:05:46.000 because I'll tell you one 00:05:46.000 --> 00:05:47.000 of the things we're gonna talk about in 00:05:47.000 --> 00:05:48.000 a few minutes is a criminal 00:05:48.000 --> 00:05:51.000 background check we do a very 00:05:51.000 --> 00:05:53.000 very thorough and deep check 00:05:53.000 --> 00:05:55.000 so if you say no and it's 00:05:55.000 --> 00:05:56.000 actually yes we'll find out 00:05:56.000 --> 00:05:59.000 about it no doubt alright so 00:05:59.000 --> 00:05:61.000 answer that any way you want 00:06:01.000 --> 00:06:03.000 is sign it the application is very 00:06:03.000 --> 00:06:07.000 simple item number one item 00:06:07.000 --> 00:06:10.000 number two money 00:06:12.000 --> 00:06:14.000 that's the application 00:06:14.000 --> 00:06:16.000 fee alright 175 is 00:06:16.000 --> 00:06:17.000 the actual fee 00:06:20.000 --> 00:06:23.000 the criminal background check 00:06:23.000 --> 00:06:25.000 next thing we're gonna talk about 00:06:25.000 --> 00:06:28.000 is Form 2A which is the 00:06:28.000 --> 00:06:30.000 form that gets you credit for 00:06:30.000 --> 00:06:31.000 all your student internship 00:06:31.000 --> 00:06:33.000 hours you're going to give 00:06:33.000 --> 00:06:35.000 that to Kim you're gonna fill out the top 00:06:35.000 --> 00:06:37.000 part of that you're probably gonna have 00:06:37.000 --> 00:06:39.000 to give her logs and all kinds 00:06:39.000 --> 00:06:40.000 of things you're gonna have to close 00:06:40.000 --> 00:06:41.000 out your program and all the 00:06:41.000 --> 00:06:43.000 things that they need once 00:06:43.000 --> 00:06:45.000 they have all that she fills 00:06:45.000 --> 00:06:47.000 it out gets someone to sign it 00:06:47.000 --> 00:06:50.000 maybe her maybe 00:06:56.000 --> 00:06:58.000 check alright I don't need 00:06:58.000 --> 00:06:60.000 hard copies of anything we are now 00:07:00.000 --> 00:07:01.000 trying to make it as easy as 00:07:01.000 --> 00:07:04.000 possible we are currently under 00:07:04.000 --> 00:07:07.000 development of a new database 00:07:07.000 --> 00:07:09.000 that'll go onto the website and at 00:07:09.000 --> 00:07:11.000 some point in the near future 00:07:11.000 --> 00:07:12.000 that can be two years down the 00:07:12.000 --> 00:07:13.000 road we'll be able to take 00:07:13.000 --> 00:07:15.000 fees online too so we're 00:07:15.000 --> 00:07:17.000 working at it alright so you're 00:07:17.000 --> 00:07:19.000 gonna give her that form all 00:07:19.000 --> 00:07:21.000 right she's gonna fill that out 00:08:14.000 where you get your fingerprints 00:08:14.000 --> 00:08:16.000 done you do your fingerprints 00:08:16.000 --> 00:08:17.000 and you're done because they 00:08:17.000 --> 00:08:19.000 automatically electronically 00:08:19.000 --> 00:08:20.000 submit it to the Oregon State Police 00:08:20.000 --> 00:08:23.000 two or three weeks later 00:08:23.000 --> 00:08:26.000 I get the report very simple 00:08:26.000 --> 00:08:27.000 now the last two things we're 00:08:27.000 --> 00:08:29.000 going to talk about are both 00:08:29.000 --> 00:08:30.000 work related alright so you 00:08:30.000 --> 00:08:32.000 have to have a job and you have 00:08:32.000 --> 00:08:34.000 to have a supervisor or you can 00:08:34.000 --> 00:08:36.000 have a private practice okay 00:08:36.000 --> 00:08:37.000 but you still have to have the 00:08:37.000 --> 00:08:40.000 supervisor alright one of 00:08:40.000 --> 00:08:41.000 those documents you've already 00:08:41.000 --> 00:08:43.000 done and that's your professional 00:08:43.000 --> 00:08:46.000 disclosure statement alright 00:08:46.000 --> 00:08:47.000 I like talking about the Professional 00:08:50.000 --> 00:08:51.000 because marketing happens to 00:08:51.000 --> 00:08:57.000 be my forte this is the PDS 00:08:57.000 --> 00:08:61.000 website then there is also 00:09:01.000 --> 00:09:04.000 a sample form what I like to 00:09:04.000 --> 00:09:06.000 tell people is this is a me 00:09:06.000 --> 00:09:09.000 document it's all about you 00:09:09.000 --> 00:09:11.000 alright -- it's whatever you 00:09:11.000 --> 00:09:13.000 want your clients to know you 00:09:13.000 --> 00:09:15.000 want them to know your modality 00:09:15.000 --> 00:09:17.000 you want them to know your schooling 00:09:17.000 --> 00:09:18.000 you want to know what you -- 00:09:18.000 --> 00:09:19.000 you stand on certain issues if 00:09:19.000 --> 00:09:21.000 you want to because you never 00:09:21.000 --> 00:09:22.000 know this particular document 00:09:22.000 --> 00:09:24.000 may get passed around you may 00:09:24.000 --> 00:09:26.000 get a few new clients because of 00:09:26.000 --> 00:09:28.000 this particular document there 00:09:28.000 --> 00:09:29.000 are eight things you have to 00:09:29.000 --> 00:09:30.000 have on there you gotta have your 00:09:30.000 --> 00:09:32.000 name and address you gotta have your 00:09:32.000 --> 00:09:34.000 philosophy you've got to have 00:09:34.000 --> 00:09:36.000 your education you've got to have 00:09:36.000 --> 00:09:38.000 who your supervisor is you've got to 00:09:38.000 --> 00:09:40.000 tell them you follow the code of 00:09:40.000 --> 00:09:41.000 ethics you've got to tell them how much 00:09:41.000 --> 00:09:43.000 you're going to charge them there's 00:09:43.000 --> 00:09:44.000 a bill of rights and then there's 00:09:44.000 --> 00:09:46.000 our information the Board's 00:09:46.000 --> 00:09:47.000 information all of those things 00:09:47.000 --> 00:09:50.000 have to be on there but if you 00:09:50.000 --> 00:09:51.000 want to do a base one that's 00:09:51.000 --> 00:09:53.000 perfectly okay but because I 00:09:53.000 --> 00:09:55.000 consider it a marketing document 00:09:55.000 --> 00:09:57.000 and it's your first one it should 00:09:57.000 --> 00:09:58.000 be important to you and so 00:09:58.000 --> 00:09:59.000 you should do it through and 00:09:59.000 --> 00:09:61.000 through a couple things to remember 00:10:01.000 --> 00:10:02.000 number one don't make it too 00:10:02.000 --> 00:10:04.000 long number two people have 00:10:04.000 --> 00:10:06.000 a short attention span so 00:10:06.000 --> 00:10:08.000 put whatever you think is most 00:10:08.000 --> 00:10:10.000 important about you at the 00:10:10.000 --> 00:10:13.000 top alright very important 00:10:13.000 --> 00:10:14.000 the other document that you're going to 00:10:14.000 --> 00:10:17.000 need is the intern supervisor 00:10:17.000 --> 00:10:20.000 work plan now this is 00:10:20.000 --> 00:10:21.000 a four page form but don't be 00:10:21.000 --> 00:10:25.000 overwhelmed by it page one is who 00:10:25.000 --> 00:10:27.000 you are what you're doing where 00:10:27.000 --> 00:10:29.000 you're gonna work down at the bottom 00:10:29.000 --> 00:10:31.000 I need a little explanation 00:10:31.000 --> 00:10:33.000 and that's really the only 00:10:33.000 --> 00:10:36.000 thing you have to do page two 00:10:36.000 --> 00:10:38.000 is the information about your 00:10:38.000 --> 00:10:42.000 supervisor who they are what 00:10:42.000 --> 00:10:43.000 their experience is what their 00:10:43.000 --> 00:10:46.000 license is page three is their 00:10:46.000 --> 00:10:49.000 education on supervision and 00:10:49.000 --> 00:10:52.000 page four you sign it there isn't 00:10:52.000 --> 00:10:54.000 anything about this process 00:10:54.000 --> 00:10:56.000 that should overwhelm you 00:10:56.000 --> 00:10:57.000 alright and not only that you got 00:10:57.000 --> --> 00:12:25.000 you're spending between fifty 00:12:25.000 --> 00:12:26.000 and a hundred thousand dollars 00:12:26.000 --> 00:12:29.000 for this degree alright 00:12:29.000 --> 00:12:31.000 you know if you have any kind 00:12:31.000 --> 00:12:33.000 of romantic intentions with 00:12:33.000 --> 00:12:36.000 any of your clients immediately 00:12:36.000 --> 00:12:38.000 stop do not pass go call 00:12:45.000 list of three people that you 00:12:45.000 --> 00:12:47.000 can go and give to this person 00:12:47.000 --> 00:12:49.000 other counselors and then you 00:12:49.000 --> 00:12:51.000 show them the door alright then you 00:12:51.000 --> 00:12:52.000 close the door and if you look 00:12:52.000 --> 00:12:54.000 at the ACA it says you have to 00:12:54.000 --> 00:12:57.000 wait five years before you can have 00:12:57.000 --> 00:12:59.000 any kind of relationship with 00:12:59.000 --> 00:12:61.000 that individual alright but 00:13:01.000 --> 00:13:02.000 I will tell you that is the 00:13:02.000 --> 00:13:05.000 quickest way to lose your license alright 00:13:05.000 --> 00:13:07.000 the other thing that you'll find 00:13:07.000 --> 00:13:09.000 on here is a lot offenses 00:13:09.000 --> 00:13:13.000 for dual relationship alright I want you 00:13:13.000 --> 00:13:16.000 to remember this one word and 00:13:16.000 --> 00:13:18.000 it's what I used to describe 00:13:18.000 --> 00:13:20.000 dual relationship and that is 00:13:20.000 --> 00:13:22.000 Power 00:13:22.000 --> 00:13:23.000 as a counselor you are 00:13:23.000 --> 00:13:27.000 in a power position alright 00:13:27.000 --> 00:13:29.000 so if you are ever wondering 00:13:29.000 --> 00:13:30.000 whether or not you're in a 00:13:30.000 --> 00:13:33.000 dual relationship that's the easiest 00:13:33.000 --> 00:13:35.000 way to figure it out alright 00:13:35.000 --> 00:13:37.000 if there's something going on 00:13:37.000 --> 00:13:39.000 I like to use the plumber as 00:13:39.000 --> 00:13:41.000 my example he's in there with 00:13:41.000 --> 00:13:43.000 a session with you right now 00:13:43.000 --> 00:13:45.000 right and all of a sudden your toilet 00:13:45.000 --> 00:13:48.000 just busts alright his normal fee is 00:13:48.000 --> 00:13:49.000 two hundred fifty dollars an 00:13:49.000 --> 00:13:51.000 hour plus parts he turns and 00:13:51.000 --> 00:13:53.000 looks at you and says I can do it for 00:13:53.000 --> 00:13:56.000 fifty bucks for you alright 00:13:56.000 --> 00:13:57.000 because you are his counselor 00:13:57.000 --> 00:13:59.000 and because of the situation 00:13:59.000 --> 00:13:61.000 you're in he's giving you a 00:14:01.000 --> 00:14:03.000 deal and that automatically 00:14:03.000 --> 00:14:06.000 a dual relation alright 00:14:06.000 --> 00:14:08.000 so here's the thing it's no 00:14:08.000 --> 00:14:10.000 problem if you do that it only 00:14:10.000 --> 00:14:12.000 becomes a problem when he 00:14:12.000 --> 00:14:14.000 gets mad at you and then he 00:14:14.000 --> 00:14:15.000 files a complaint with the 00:14:15.000 --> 00:14:18.000 Board most of the compliance issues 00:14:18.000 --> 00:14:21.000 are because someone is angry 00:14:21.000 --> 00:14:23.000 is upset didn't like what 00:14:23.000 --> 00:14:25.000 you had to -- tell him or 00:14:25.000 --> 00:14:28.000 anything make sure no matter 00:14:28.000 --> 00:14:30.000 what you do you document you 00:14:30.000 --> 00:14:32.000 document and you document 00:14:32.000 --> 00:14:35.000 I'm an Army guy okay CYA 00:14:35.000 --> 00:14:36.000 does everyone know what that means 00:14:36.000 --> 00:14:39.000 alright so guess what 00:14:39.000 --> 00:14:41.000 whenever you're in any situation doesn't 00:14:41.000 --> 00:14:42.000 matter what it is just a normal 00:14:42.000 --> 00:14:44.000 counselor session still want to do 00:14:44.000 --> 00:14:46.000 your progress notes you want 00:14:46.000 --> 00:14:47.000 to document what you think you 00:14:47.000 --> 00:14:51.000 need to because by code we can 00:14:51.000 --> 00:14:53.000 ask you for those documents 00:14:53.000 --> 00:14:54.000 if you ever get in trouble 00:14:54.000 --> 00:14:55.000 and guess what if there's something in there 00:14:55.000 --> 00:14:57.000 telling us what you did and 00:14:57.000 --> 00:14:59.000 it's completely opposite of 00:14:59.000 --> 00:14:60.000 what they say we're gonna 00:15:00.000 --> 00:15:01.000 believe your note because 00:15:01.000 --> 00:15:03.000 you don't create those you know except 00:15:03.000 --> 00:15:05.000 at the time alright so CYA 00:16:08.000 supervision training and they 00:16:08.000 --> 00:16:10.000 had to pass our supervisors 00:16:10.000 --> 00:16:12.000 law and rules exam alright and if you 00:16:12.000 --> 00:16:13.000 of these 00:16:20.000 --> 00:16:21.000 on here like I said have 00:16:21.000 --> 00:16:24.000 been vetted good thing 00:16:24.000 --> 00:16:26.000 alright two more quick things 00:16:26.000 --> 00:16:28.000 number one I am going to give 00:16:28.000 --> 00:16:30.000 you a number at some point 00:16:30.000 --> 00:16:32.000 alright and when I give you 00:16:32.000 --> 00:16:34.000 a number you will be able to 00:16:34.000 --> 00:16:37.000 look up yourself I'm gonna use one of 00:16:37.000 --> 00:16:41.000 my favorite people name where 00:16:41.000 --> 00:16:42.000 she practices what her license is 00:16:42.000 --> 00:16:44.000 that it's active what her number 00:16:44.000 --> 00:16:46.000 is when she was first licensed 00:16:46.000 --> 00:16:49.000 and when it expires and there's 00:16:49.000 --> 00:16:51.000 no Board action however when 00:16:51.000 --> 00:16:52.000 you put your name there there 00:16:52.000 --> 00:16:54.000 it's going to say LPC registered 00:16:54.000 --> 00:16:55.000 intern there will be a number there 00:16:55.000 --> 00:16:57.000 it'll be active the date you 00:16:57.000 --> 00:16:59.000 start very simple so you're gonna look 00:16:59.000 --> 00:16:61.000 yourself up 24 hours 00:17:01.000 --> 00:17:05.000 after I give you your number this is 00:17:05.000 --> 00:17:07.000 change your contact information 00:17:07.000 --> 00:17:10.000 if you ever change your email 00:17:10.000 --> 00:17:12.000 address you want to send this 00:17:12.000 --> 00:17:14.000 in and send it to us when you 00:17:14.000 --> 00:17:16.000 hit submit it drops into an 00:17:16.000 --> 00:17:17.000 email address and we update 00:17:17.000 --> 00:17:20.000 all your information you change 00:17:20.000 --> 00:17:21.000 your job you do that if you 00:17:21.000 --> 00:17:22.000 change your home address you 00:17:22.000 --> 00:17:24.000 do that email I just wanna make sure I'm 00:17:24.000 --> 00:17:26.000 telling you this every year you have 00:17:26.000 --> 00:17:28.000 to renew your internship every 00:17:28.000 --> 00:17:29.000 year you have to renew your 00:17:29.000 --> 00:17:32.000 license okay if and we send 00:17:32.000 --> 00:17:34.000 out all the notifications via 00:17:34.000 --> 00:17:37.000 email so if your email address is wrong 00:17:37.000 --> 00:17:38.000 you won't get the -- the 00:17:38.000 --> 00:17:40.000 notification and tell you what 00:17:40.000 --> 00:17:43.000 newbies we expire more than 00:17:43.000 --> 00:17:45.000 we do anything else because 00:17:45.000 --> 00:17:46.000 they're not thinking of it so 00:17:46.000 --> 00:17:49.000 make sure your license or your 00:17:49.000 --> 00:17:51.000 email address is correct 00:17:51.000 --> 00:17:53.000 alright Connie sends out two or three 00:17:53.000 --> 00:17:55.000 reminders along with that 00:17:55.000 --> 00:17:57.000 alright last one is normally 00:17:57.000 --> 00:17:59.000 sent to you and your supervisor 00:17:59.000 --> 00:17:60.000 okay to make sure all that 00:18:00.000 --> 00:18:03.000 information is updated so that 00:18:03.000 --> 00:18:05.000 we can help you help us first 00:18:05.000 --> 00:18:06.000 of all thank you for inviting 00:18:06.000 --> 00:18:09.000 me it was about seventeen 00:18:09.000 --> 00:18:10.000 years ago I was sitting where 00:18:10.000 --> 00:18:11.000 you're sitting but not in 00:18:11.000 --> 00:18:15.000 this building so -- yeah so I 00:18:15.000 --> 00:18:17.000 got my -- my training here at 00:18:17.000 --> 00:18:20.000 Western it was great I graduated 00:18:20.000 --> 00:18:22.000 in June of 2002 00:18:22.000 --> 00:18:23.000 sat for the CRC 00:18:23.000 --> 00:18:29.000 that -- October -- so -- that 00:18:29.000 --> 00:18:30.000 was probably the best thing I 00:18:30.000 --> 00:18:31.000 ever did was to take the test 00:18:31.000 --> 00:18:33.000 as soon as I could as soon 00:18:33.000 --> 00:18:36.000 as I was done -- everything's 00:18:36.000 --> 00:18:37.000 as fresh as it's going to 00:18:37.000 --> 00:18:41.000 be -- don't wait -- because 00:18:41.000 --> 00:18:42.000 then it's easy to just put it 00:18:42.000 --> 00:18:44.000 off you get a job and it doesn't 00:18:44.000 --> 00:18:46.000 necessarily require the CRC 00:18:49.000 --> 00:18:51.000 open up some extra doors it 00:18:51.000 --> 00:18:52.000 offers better benefits 00:18:52.000 --> 00:18:54.000 from time to time or more 00:18:54.000 --> 00:18:58.000 opportunities more -- income 00:18:59.000 --> 00:18:63.000 because you can -- supervise 00:19:03.000 --> 00:19:06.000 and I've supervised five 00:19:06.000 --> 00:19:07.000 I'm on my fifth one now he's 00:19:07.000 --> 00:19:08.000 actually from University of Idaho 00:19:08.000 --> 00:19:10.000 and he moved his family 00:19:10.000 --> 00:19:12.000 to Bend to do his six hundred 00:19:12.000 --> 00:19:16.000 hours -- so anyway somebody 00:19:16.000 --> 00:19:17.000 did it for me I feel like it's 00:19:17.000 --> 00:19:18.000 my obligation to do it for 00:19:18.000 --> 00:19:19.000 somebody else you know you 00:19:19.000 --> 00:19:23.000 got to replace yourself and -- 00:19:23.000 --> 00:19:25.000 anyway so I'm wearing a couple 00:19:25.000 --> 00:19:27.000 of different hats today one I 00:19:27.000 --> 00:19:28.000 am a voc rehab counselor 00:19:28.000 --> 00:19:31.000 so I can talk about that or 00:19:31.000 --> 00:19:33.000 I can talk about CRC 00:19:33.000 --> 00:19:36.000 certification -- and I don't 00:19:36.000 --> 00:19:37.000 know how much is covered in 00:19:37.000 --> 00:19:38.000 your curriculum already I don't 00:19:38.000 --> 00:19:41.000 want to duplicate stuff -- 00:19:41.000 --> 00:19:42.000 and then the other is my role 00:19:42.000 --> 00:19:43.000 on the commission for rehab 00:19:43.000 --> 00:19:46.000 counseling certification so 00:19:46.000 --> 00:19:51.000 a little bit of everything or 00:19:51.000 --> 00:19:54.000 okay -- we'll start with -- my 00:19:54.000 --> 00:19:56.000 current hat that I wear is -- 00:19:56.000 --> 00:19:57.000 I'm a voc rehab counselor 00:19:57.000 --> 00:19:60.000 in the Bend office vocational 00:20:00.000 --> 00:20:01.000 rehabilitation falls underneath 00:20:01.000 --> 00:20:03.000 the umbrella of department of 00:20:03.000 --> 00:20:07.000 human services so -- we're a state 00:20:07.000 --> 00:20:09.000 agency -- there's private rehab 00:20:09.000 --> 00:20:12.000 too that you can work in as well 00:20:13.000 --> 00:20:16.000 public rehab for the state 00:20:19.000 --> 00:20:21.000 rewarding it's a -- every day 00:20:21.000 --> 00:20:23.000 is a new day every client's a new 00:20:23.000 --> 00:20:26.000 client -- with new challenges 00:20:26.000 --> 00:20:28.000 so you don't get stale -- you 00:20:28.000 --> 00:20:32.000 stay current you stay relevant -- 00:20:32.000 --> 00:20:34.000 with -- because I'm working as a 00:20:34.000 --> 00:20:36.000 counselor and I'm also a CRC 00:20:36.000 --> 00:20:38.000 I'm required to do either 00:20:38.000 --> 00:20:39.000 retake the test every five 00:20:39.000 --> 00:20:40.000 years which I'm not doing that 00:20:40.000 --> 00:20:43.000 again or do continuing ed units 00:20:43.000 --> 00:20:45.000 which is a hundred every five 00:20:45.000 --> 00:20:47.000 years -- and I would definitely 00:20:47.000 --> 00:20:48.000 recommend that it keeps you 00:20:48.000 --> 00:20:50.000 fresh it keeps you updated 00:20:50.000 --> 00:20:54.000 keeps you current for example 00:20:54.000 --> 00:20:56.000 what -- and the test changes 00:20:58.000 --> 00:20:60.000 out there and then two stuff 00:21:00.000 --> 00:21:02.000 changes when I took the exam 00:21:02.000 --> 00:21:05.000 back in 2002 social 00:21:05.000 --> 00:21:08.000 media was just surfacing it's 00:21:08.000 --> 00:21:10.000 Facebook and all that stuff is 00:21:10.000 --> 00:21:14.000 not out there in my day so the 00:21:14.000 --> 00:21:15.000 questions the test didn't 00:21:15.000 --> 00:21:18.000 really didn't address those things 00:21:18.000 --> 00:21:20.000 so now it's a different world 00:21:20.000 --> 00:21:21.000 you know there's different 00:21:21.000 --> 00:21:23.000 challenges different just 00:21:23.000 --> 00:21:25.000 different things and and what I 00:21:25.000 --> 00:21:27.000 like about the CRCC 00:21:27.000 --> 00:21:28.000 role is there's a committee that's 00:21:28.000 --> 00:21:30.000 called Standard and Exam 00:21:30.000 --> 00:21:33.000 so it's just what it says it is 00:21:33.000 --> 00:21:35.000 yeah it's Standards and Exam 00:21:35.000 --> 00:21:37.000 Committee yeah and I can go 00:21:37.000 --> 00:21:38.000 through the committees and the 00:21:38.000 --> 00:21:39.000 structure of the board and all 00:21:39.000 --> 00:21:42.000 that but -- they meet regularly 00:21:42.000 --> 00:21:44.000 to review the questions they 00:21:44.000 --> 00:21:47.000 have they bring people in they 00:21:47.000 --> 00:21:49.000 bring counselors in to simply 00:21:49.000 --> 00:21:51.000 do that write questions write 00:21:51.000 --> 00:21:52.000 new questions write answers 00:21:52.000 --> 00:21:53.000 they also -- it all 00:21:53.000 --> 00:21:54.000 has to be vetted because it 00:21:54.000 --> 00:21:56.000 all has to be scored and it 00:21:56.000 --> 00:21:58.000 has to be consistent across 00:21:58.000 --> 00:21:60.000 the board so that's kind of 00:22:00.000 --> 00:22:01.000 the role of the CRC 00:22:01.000 --> 00:22:02.000 but I'm getting a little 00:22:02.000 --> 00:22:06.000 blending my roles -- so this 00:22:06.000 --> 00:22:08.000 program prepared me to work in 00:22:12.000 --> 00:22:14.000 choice for me so I'm hoping 00:22:14.000 --> 00:22:15.000 that'll be the same you'll have 00:22:15.000 --> 00:22:17.000 the same experience certainly 00:22:17.000 --> 00:22:18.000 something similar and be 00:22:18.000 --> 00:22:19.000 grateful that you went through the 00:22:19.000 --> 00:22:21.000 program and you're on the home stretch 00:22:21.000 --> 00:22:27.000 so ends in sight -- so any questions 00:22:27.000 --> 00:22:28.000 about my role as a voc rehab 00:22:28.000 --> 00:22:30.000 counselor what would be my 00:22:30.000 --> 00:22:32.000 advice for new -- new voc rehab 00:22:32.000 --> 00:22:34.000 counselor great question that's 00:22:34.000 --> 00:22:38.000 a tough question -- I would 00:22:38.000 --> 00:22:43.000 suggest being resourceful -- 00:22:43.000 --> 00:22:44.000 tapping into other people's 00:22:44.000 --> 00:22:46.000 expertise but you know build 00:22:46.000 --> 00:22:51.000 on your own -- use your peers 00:22:51.000 --> 00:22:54.000 as sounding boards -- go to 00:22:54.000 --> 00:22:57.000 training -- stay current stay 00:22:57.000 --> 00:22:59.000 relevant -- that's a long 00:22:59.000 --> 00:22:62.000 answer for short question but -- 00:23:02.000 --> 00:23:03.000 but I think that's probably one 00:23:03.000 --> 00:23:05.000 of the best things that I had 00:23:05.000 --> 00:23:07.000 available to me is when I was 00:23:07.000 --> 00:23:09.000 new I had two other seasoned 00:23:09.000 --> 00:23:11.000 counselors in the office and 00:23:11.000 --> 00:23:13.000 they totally had an open door 00:23:13.000 --> 00:23:16.000 policy so and one liked to 00:23:16.000 --> 00:23:18.000 hear himself speak so he always liked 00:23:18.000 --> 00:23:21.000 it when -- I'd ask for advice 00:23:21.000 --> 00:23:23.000 and -- I had the good fortune 00:23:23.000 --> 00:23:24.000 of just having resources 00:23:24.000 --> 00:23:26.000 available and my peers from my 00:23:26.000 --> 00:23:29.000 cohort -- and then just other 00:23:29.000 --> 00:23:30.000 people not even necessarily 00:23:30.000 --> 00:23:32.000 in my own office but voc rehab 00:23:32.000 --> 00:23:34.000 in general in the field 00:23:34.000 --> 00:23:37.000 of rehab is very welcoming and 00:23:37.000 --> 00:23:39.000 I think I'm confident I can 00:23:39.000 --> 00:23:41.000 reach out to probably anybody 00:23:41.000 --> 00:23:44.000 whether I know them or not -- 00:23:44.000 --> 00:23:45.000 explain who I am and why I'm 00:23:45.000 --> 00:23:47.000 calling I think that they would 00:23:47.000 --> 00:23:49.000 be willing to be helpful I 00:23:49.000 --> 00:23:50.000 mean we're all kind of helping 00:23:50.000 --> 00:23:52.000 people you know -- any other 00:23:52.000 --> 00:23:54.000 questions you had one she's asking 00:23:54.000 --> 00:23:55.000 about multiple roles and how 00:23:55.000 --> 00:23:59.000 do I fit that into the day -- 00:23:59.000 --> 00:23:63.000 with being credentialed as a CRC 00:24:03.000 --> 00:24:06.000 the agency supports it so 00:24:06.000 --> 00:24:08.000 the agency will allow me to 00:24:08.000 --> 00:24:10.000 go to trainings and get the 00:24:10.000 --> 00:24:12.000 continuing ed units that I 00:24:12.000 --> 00:24:14.000 need to get -- and this is a 00:24:14.000 --> 00:24:16.000 relatively new benefit they 00:24:16.000 --> 00:24:19.000 will now reimburse for CRC 00:24:19.000 --> 00:24:20.000 related expenses that wasn't 00:24:20.000 --> 00:24:22.000 always the case initially 00:24:22.000 --> 00:24:26.000 pocket -- but now so then 00:24:26.000 --> 00:24:27.000 there was a movement with the 00:24:27.000 --> 00:24:28.000 union because we're all -- 00:24:28.000 --> 00:24:33.000 represented union employees -- 00:24:35.000 --> 00:24:36.000 wanted to request CRCs 00:24:36.000 --> 00:24:38.000 wanted a five percent pay 00:24:38.000 --> 00:24:40.000 differential versus those that 00:24:40.000 --> 00:24:42.000 were working counselors but 00:24:42.000 --> 00:24:43.000 not with the same credentials 00:24:43.000 --> 00:24:44.000 because they haven't gone through 00:24:44.000 --> 00:24:45.000 the program they haven't gone 00:24:45.000 --> 00:24:46.000 taken the test and so forth 00:24:46.000 --> 00:24:49.000 and they don't have the same 00:24:49.000 --> 00:24:50.000 expectation and standards that 00:24:50.000 --> 00:24:52.000 once you get your CRC 00:24:52.000 --> 00:24:55.000 you have -- so the five 00:24:55.000 --> 00:24:56.000 percent differential was 00:24:56.000 --> 00:24:58.000 denied so but what they 00:24:58.000 --> 00:24:61.000 countered with was we will 00:25:01.000 --> 00:25:03.000 reimburse you for your CRC 00:25:03.000 --> 00:25:06.000 related expenses so that's 00:25:06.000 --> 00:25:09.000 been great the -- and then I'm 00:25:09.000 --> 00:25:11.000 gonna transition excuse me into 00:25:11.000 --> 00:25:13.000 where you can get the training 00:25:13.000 --> 00:25:15.000 sometimes the agency will lots 00:25:15.000 --> 00:25:16.000 of times the agency will offer 00:25:16.000 --> 00:25:19.000 it -- but sometimes you don't 00:25:19.000 --> 00:25:20.000 plan quite right and you need 00:25:20.000 --> 00:25:22.000 to get ten ethics hours every 00:25:22.000 --> 00:25:25.000 five years and maybe there's 00:25:25.000 --> 00:25:27.000 not a training in ethics coming 00:25:27.000 --> 00:25:29.000 up within Oregon that's doable 00:25:29.000 --> 00:25:31.000 you can go to the CRCC 00:25:31.000 --> 00:25:32.000 website which is one of the 00:25:32.000 --> 00:25:34.000 best features that they have 00:25:34.000 --> 00:25:35.000 and take classes they're 00:25:35.000 --> 00:25:38.000 relatively inexpensive and 00:25:38.000 --> 00:25:40.000 they cover the gambit of 00:25:40.000 --> 00:25:41.000 information you are ever going 00:25:41.000 --> 00:25:43.000 to be required to know and it's on 00:25:43.000 --> 00:25:44.000 demand you do it on your time 00:25:44.000 --> 00:25:47.000 on your computer -- pay for 00:25:47.000 --> 00:25:49.000 it you know over the internet with 00:25:49.000 --> 00:25:51.000 your credit card and then just 00:25:51.000 --> 00:25:52.000 show the -- the receipt and 00:25:52.000 --> 00:25:54.000 get reimbursed so that's a nice 00:25:54.000 --> 00:25:56.000 benefit so that's how I can 00:25:56.000 --> 00:25:57.000 fit some of that into my day 00:25:57.000 --> 00:25:58.000 is because the agency supports 00:25:58.000 --> 00:25:61.000 it now what the agency doesn't 00:26:01.000 --> 00:26:05.000 support is my role on the CRCC 00:26:05.000 --> 00:26:07.000 in the sense in the sense that 00:26:07.000 --> 00:26:09.000 it's not part of my job and 00:26:09.000 --> 00:26:11.000 so I'm not compensated it's 00:26:11.000 --> 00:26:13.000 volunteer hours it's volunteer 00:26:13.000 --> 00:26:14.000 time for example I'm gonna 00:26:14.000 --> 00:26:16.000 go to Chicago next week or 00:26:16.000 --> 00:26:18.000 next month for our annual 00:26:18.000 --> 00:26:21.000 meeting -- the CRCC 00:26:21.000 --> 00:26:23.000 picks up that expense so they 00:26:23.000 --> 00:26:25.000 don't pay for my time but they 00:26:25.000 --> 00:26:26.000 pay for my plane ticket and my 00:26:26.000 --> 00:26:32.000 lodging and some meals -- and so 00:26:32.000 --> 00:26:33.000 that's a little bit of a fine 00:26:33.000 --> 00:26:35.000 line because my supervisor in 00:26:35.000 --> 00:26:36.000 her heart she wants to support 00:26:36.000 --> 00:26:38.000 me and say you're doing a 00:26:38.000 --> 00:26:39.000 great thing you're representing 00:26:39.000 --> 00:26:41.000 Oregon Oregon's never had a 00:26:41.000 --> 00:26:44.000 seat at the table -- you're the 00:26:44.000 --> 00:26:45.000 first -- you know we're 00:26:45.000 --> 00:26:47.000 on the map so to speak and 00:26:47.000 --> 00:26:50.000 so she in her heart of hearts 00:26:50.000 --> 00:26:53.000 wants to support me -- and so 00:26:53.000 --> 00:26:55.000 she's made some allowed me to 00:26:55.000 --> 00:26:56.000 have a little bit of wiggle 00:26:56.000 --> 00:26:60.000 room -- to adjust my time 00:27:00.000 --> 00:27:01.000 because it -- can be quite 00:27:01.000 --> 00:27:04.000 time consuming there's on site 00:27:04.000 --> 00:27:06.000 meetings so far we've met in 00:27:06.000 --> 00:27:08.000 Chicago Atlanta and New Orleans 00:27:08.000 --> 00:27:10.000 and again Chicago two more 00:27:10.000 --> 00:27:12.000 times and I'll be on the board 00:27:12.000 --> 00:27:15.000 until December 31st of 2020 00:27:15.000 --> 00:27:16.000 so it's a three 00:27:16.000 --> 00:27:19.000 year term and this round is 00:27:19.000 --> 00:27:24.000 three and a half years because the CRCC 00:27:24.000 --> 00:27:26.000 got a new executive director 00:27:26.000 --> 00:27:27.000 and her name's Pamela Shlemon 00:27:27.000 --> 00:27:29.000 and she was hired about just 00:27:29.000 --> 00:27:31.000 over a year ago -- prior 00:27:31.000 --> 00:27:33.000 to that we'd had an executive 00:27:33.000 --> 00:27:35.000 director who'd been with the CRCC 00:27:35.000 --> 00:27:37.000 for twenty five years so 00:27:37.000 --> 00:27:39.000 this was -- there was an 00:27:39.000 --> 00:27:41.000 international search I'm 00:27:41.000 --> 00:27:42.000 grateful I wasn't on the 00:27:42.000 --> 00:27:44.000 committee but -- they did a 00:27:44.000 --> 00:27:46.000 great job -- vetting them 00:27:46.000 --> 00:27:48.000 through so anyway they ended 00:27:48.000 --> 00:27:49.000 up finding Pamela kind of in 00:27:49.000 --> 00:27:51.000 their own backyard she's in 00:27:51.000 --> 00:27:52.000 the Chicago area and that's 00:27:52.000 --> 00:27:53.000 where the headquarters are in 00:27:53.000 --> 00:27:57.000 Schaumburg so she came in and 00:27:57.000 --> 00:27:59.000 took a fresh look at things 00:27:59.000 --> 00:27:60.000 you know fresh set of eyes after 00:28:00.000 --> 00:28:03.000 twenty five years looking 00:28:03.000 --> 00:28:04.000 at everything questioning 00:28:04.000 --> 00:28:06.000 everything and asking tough 00:28:06.000 --> 00:28:08.000 questions and I was I'd been 00:28:08.000 --> 00:28:10.000 on the board for one year so 00:28:10.000 --> 00:28:11.000 I was kind of familiar with 00:28:11.000 --> 00:28:12.000 processes but I didn't know 00:28:12.000 --> 00:28:15.000 everything -- anyway so she 00:28:15.000 --> 00:28:17.000 has decided to change things 00:28:17.000 --> 00:28:20.000 one is to have the new board 00:28:20.000 --> 00:28:22.000 of directors start January 1 00:28:22.000 --> 00:28:24.000 instead of July 1 and 00:28:24.000 --> 00:28:25.000 the reason for that is it 00:28:25.000 --> 00:28:26.000 has something to do with tax 00:28:26.000 --> 00:28:28.000 benefit laws in the state of 00:28:28.000 --> 00:28:30.000 Illinois for a 501-c-3 00:28:30.000 --> 00:28:33.000 nonprofit status so 00:28:33.000 --> 00:28:34.000 you know you can't argue with 00:28:34.000 --> 00:28:37.000 that that you know makes sense 00:28:37.000 --> 00:28:40.000 so in order -- to make that 00:28:40.000 --> 00:28:42.000 happen everybody that's currently on 00:28:42.000 --> 00:28:44.000 the board extended an extra six 00:28:44.000 --> 00:28:46.000 months so it's a three and a 00:28:46.000 --> 00:28:48.000 half year commitment this time 00:28:48.000 --> 00:28:50.000 but for new people it'll be on 00:28:50.000 --> 00:28:52.000 the cycle starting in January 00:28:52.000 --> 00:28:54.000 for three years so it's good 00:28:54.000 --> 00:28:56.000 to get some fresh blood -- 00:28:56.000 --> 00:28:62.000 good to have new ideas -- and 00:29:02.000 --> 00:29:04.000 so the other thing she changed 00:29:04.000 --> 00:29:07.000 which was rather significant 00:29:07.000 --> 00:29:08.000 was in the past we had the 00:29:08.000 --> 00:29:10.000 typical board structure you've 00:29:10.000 --> 00:29:12.000 got your past president current 00:29:12.000 --> 00:29:15.000 president president elect and 00:29:15.000 --> 00:29:17.000 secretary treasurer so -- those 00:29:17.000 --> 00:29:20.000 are the four board positions 00:29:20.000 --> 00:29:22.000 what Pamela has done is changed 00:29:22.000 --> 00:29:24.000 and -- all of those are one 00:29:24.000 --> 00:29:27.000 year -- she changed it so 00:29:29.000 --> 00:29:31.000 president made the current 00:29:31.000 --> 00:29:33.000 president a two year position 00:29:33.000 --> 00:29:35.000 which is kind of the equivalent 00:29:35.000 --> 00:29:36.000 of a being a president for a year 00:29:36.000 --> 00:29:37.000 and then past president for a 00:29:37.000 --> 00:29:38.000 year so it's still two year 00:29:38.000 --> 00:29:42.000 commitment in that role -- 00:29:42.000 --> 00:29:44.000 did away with president elect 00:29:44.000 --> 00:29:45.000 and that's what I got elected 00:29:45.000 --> 00:29:50.000 into in Atlanta in January -- 00:29:50.000 --> 00:29:52.000 I was voted in as president 00:29:52.000 --> 00:29:53.000 elect so I was pretty excited 00:29:53.000 --> 00:29:55.000 that my name is gonna be on your 00:29:55.000 --> 00:29:56.000 guys' signature -- or your 00:29:56.000 --> 00:29:64.000 certificates how shallow I know 00:30:04.000 --> 00:30:07.000 but -- anyway so they did 00:30:07.000 --> 00:30:08.000 away with president elect 00:30:08.000 --> 00:30:12.000 and in April we had a vote 00:30:12.000 --> 00:30:15.000 and we decided to have a 00:30:15.000 --> 00:30:17.000 vice president vice president 00:30:17.000 --> 00:30:18.000 doesn't necessarily become 00:30:18.000 --> 00:30:21.000 president they can in my case 00:30:21.000 --> 00:30:22.000 I won't be because I'm going 00:30:22.000 --> 00:30:24.000 to term off the board but had I 00:30:24.000 --> 00:30:25.000 stayed in the role of president 00:30:25.000 --> 00:30:27.000 elect it would have been ended 00:30:27.000 --> 00:30:28.000 up being a four and a half 00:30:28.000 --> 00:30:30.000 year commitment but because 00:30:30.000 --> 00:30:31.000 that role doesn't exist 00:30:31.000 --> 00:30:34.000 anymore I'm technically vice 00:30:34.000 --> 00:30:36.000 president and then when the 00:30:36.000 --> 00:30:38.000 new change -- at the end of 2020 00:30:38.000 --> 00:30:41.000 then I'll be completely 00:30:41.000 --> 00:30:43.000 done so but my name is gonna 00:30:43.000 --> 00:30:45.000 be on the new certificates 00:30:45.000 --> 00:30:48.000 So it's going to be -- it's Allison Flanagan 00:30:48.000 --> 00:30:52.000 and me -- and so what 00:30:52.000 --> 00:30:54.000 else so those are -- some 00:30:54.000 --> 00:30:57.000 changes the CRCC website 00:30:57.000 --> 00:30:58.000 just Google it it'll take you 00:30:58.000 --> 00:30:62.000 right to it it's terrific -- 00:31:02.000 --> 00:31:04.000 don't have a presentation much 00:31:04.000 --> 00:31:07.000 unlike Lonny is I asked the CRCC 00:31:07.000 --> 00:31:08.000 for something and I 00:31:08.000 --> 00:31:11.000 talked to -- operations manager 00:31:11.000 --> 00:31:13.000 and she said that everything's 00:31:13.000 --> 00:31:15.000 under construction again -- 00:31:15.000 --> 00:31:17.000 aligning with the new vision 00:31:17.000 --> 00:31:19.000 from the new executive director 00:31:19.000 --> 00:31:22.000 we're eliminating some things 00:31:22.000 --> 00:31:26.000 one was e-ASPIRE it was kind 00:31:26.000 --> 00:31:29.000 of a platform for jobs and it 00:31:29.000 --> 00:31:31.000 really wasn't well utilized 00:31:31.000 --> 00:31:32.000 it was to advertise jobs and 00:31:32.000 --> 00:31:35.000 was to look for jobs -- so 00:31:35.000 --> 00:31:39.000 it was costly so we'd you know 00:31:39.000 --> 00:31:40.000 developed an exit strategy to 00:31:40.000 --> 00:31:42.000 eliminate that focus on 00:31:42.000 --> 00:31:45.000 e-UNIVERSITY which is really 00:31:45.000 --> 00:31:46.000 what's relevant to everybody 00:31:46.000 --> 00:31:47.000 in the room here that's 00:31:47.000 --> 00:31:49.000 licensed or going to be so 00:31:49.000 --> 00:31:51.000 yeah utilize the website it's 00:31:51.000 --> 00:31:53.000 very user friendly it's got 00:31:53.000 --> 00:31:55.000 some terrific information 00:31:55.000 --> 00:31:56.000 if you have questions about 00:31:56.000 --> 00:31:58.000 the structure of the board 00:31:58.000 --> 00:31:59.000 who are the players who's at 00:31:59.000 --> 00:31:63.000 the table -- please take a 00:32:03.000 --> 00:32:04.000 look at it when you've got 00:32:04.000 --> 00:32:06.000 some time it's -- it's 00:32:06.000 --> 00:32:07.000 definitely a good website so 00:32:07.000 --> 00:32:08.000 anyway because everything's 00:32:08.000 --> 00:32:09.000 under construction and they're 00:32:09.000 --> 00:32:11.000 doing rolling out kind of a 00:32:11.000 --> 00:32:12.000 new look a new brand a new 00:32:12.000 --> 00:32:18.000 logo -- I don't have anything because and 00:32:18.000 --> 00:32:19.000 I didn't really want to create 00:32:19.000 --> 00:32:20.000 what I thought was relevant I want to 00:32:20.000 --> 00:32:22.000 come from the CRCC 00:32:22.000 --> 00:32:24.000 marketing and their staff 00:32:24.000 --> 00:32:26.000 so maybe in the future -- 00:32:26.000 --> 00:32:27.000 I can send you guys a link 00:32:27.000 --> 00:32:30.000 or something -- or forward the 00:32:30.000 --> 00:32:32.000 information to your -- 00:32:32.000 --> 00:32:34.000 professors the other thing 00:32:34.000 --> 00:32:36.000 I want to actually emphasize 00:32:36.000 --> 00:32:37.000 to piggy back on Lonny 00:32:37.000 --> 00:32:42.000 when he said the don't list 00:32:42.000 --> 00:32:43.000 so there's a governance 00:32:43.000 --> 00:32:44.000 committee and there's an 00:32:44.000 --> 00:32:46.000 ethics committee and we meet 00:32:47.000 --> 00:32:50.000 of disciplinary action or a 00:32:50.000 --> 00:32:53.000 complaint filed that's public 00:32:53.000 --> 00:32:55.000 information your name will be 00:32:55.000 --> 00:32:56.000 out there if somebody knows 00:32:56.000 --> 00:32:59.000 where to look -- there's also so 00:32:59.000 --> 00:32:61.000 there's an investigation it's 00:33:01.000 --> 00:33:04.000 neutral -- the parties involved 00:33:04.000 --> 00:33:06.000 won't necessarily well they 00:33:06.000 --> 00:33:07.000 won't know you but they'll know 00:33:07.000 --> 00:33:09.000 what the allegations are and 00:33:09.000 --> 00:33:11.000 what the potential offenses 00:33:11.000 --> 00:33:14.000 were -- and so sometimes those 00:33:14.000 --> 00:33:15.000 are substantiated sometimes 00:33:15.000 --> 00:33:17.000 they're not and we get a report at 00:33:17.000 --> 00:33:18.000 the board meetings either the 00:33:18.000 --> 00:33:20.000 quarterly not quarterly the 00:33:20.000 --> 00:33:23.000 mid year or the annual meeting 00:33:23.000 --> 00:33:24.000 they'll just to a report saying two 00:33:24.000 --> 00:33:26.000 were substantiated three were 00:33:26.000 --> 00:33:28.000 dismissed -- and you've got 00:33:28.000 --> 00:33:31.000 access to the names so just be 00:33:31.000 --> 00:33:34.000 cognizant of that your behavior 00:33:34.000 --> 00:33:36.000 will determine whether or not 00:33:36.000 --> 00:33:37.000 you get on that list and you don't 00:33:37.000 --> 00:33:39.000 want to be on that list you want to 00:33:39.000 --> 00:33:40.000 be on the locate a professional 00:33:40.000 --> 00:33:43.000 list okay you know COC 00:33:43.000 --> 00:33:45.000 is going to definitely be about 00:33:45.000 --> 00:33:49.000 rehabilitation the NCE is everything you're learning 00:33:49.000 --> 00:33:53.000 now the CLC again rehabilitation 00:33:53.000 --> 00:33:55.000 NC a booklet exam NCMHCE 00:33:55.000 --> 00:33:58.000 clinical exam alright so they 00:33:58.000 --> 00:33:60.000 are different same information 00:34:00.000 --> 00:34:01.000 but three different ways 00:34:01.000 --> 00:34:04.000 to take the exam alright 00:34:04.000 --> 00:34:05.000 the other thing you know 00:34:05.000 --> 00:34:07.000 piggybacking was the CRC 00:34:07.000 --> 00:34:09.000 supervisor if you're going to 00:34:09.000 --> 00:34:10.000 have one of those make sure 00:34:10.000 --> 00:34:12.000 that supervisor can also 00:34:12.000 --> 00:34:15.000 supervise you for LPC because you don't want to 00:34:15.000 --> 00:34:17.000 have two supervisors unless 00:34:17.000 --> 00:34:20.000 you want one alright so 00:34:20.000 --> 00:34:21.000 if you're working for one and 00:34:21.000 --> 00:34:23.000 remember that the licenser 00:34:23.000 --> 00:34:25.000 supervisor has to be licensed 00:34:25.000 --> 00:34:28.000 in Oregon I don't know what 00:34:28.000 --> 00:34:29.000 their requirements are I do 00:34:29.000 --> 00:34:31.000 know they have CEU 00:34:31.000 --> 00:34:32.000 requirements I will 00:34:32.000 --> 00:34:34.000 also tell you that you know do 00:34:34.000 --> 00:34:38.000 your certification CEUS most of those are going 00:34:38.000 --> 00:34:40.000 to carry over once your licensed 00:34:40.000 --> 00:34:42.000 for your licensure CEUS 00:34:42.000 --> 00:34:43.000 we require forty hours 00:34:43.000 --> 00:34:45.000 every two years alright they 00:34:45.000 --> 00:34:47.000 require a hundred every five so 00:34:47.000 --> 00:34:49.000 it's -- it's about the same 00:34:49.000 --> 00:34:51.000 alright we have an ethics 00:34:51.000 --> 00:34:52.000 requirement and we have a 00:34:52.000 --> 00:34:54.000 cultural competency requirement 00:34:54.000 --> 00:34:56.000 so if you take their ethics 00:34:56.000 --> 00:34:57.000 requirement for CRC 00:34:57.000 --> 00:34:59.000 it is going to meet our ethics 00:34:59.000 --> 00:34:61.000 requirements for LPC alright 00:35:01.000 --> 00:35:03.000 so you don't have -- you'll 00:35:03.000 --> 00:35:05.000 be able to double dip more 00:35:05.000 --> 00:35:06.000 or less -- you'll be 00:35:06.000 --> 00:35:08.000 able to do your CRC 00:35:08.000 --> 00:35:11.000 license at the same time if 00:35:11.000 --> 00:35:12.000 you're really nervous like 00:35:12.000 --> 00:35:15.000 I was about the CRC the practice tests just 00:35:15.000 --> 00:35:16.000 weren't cutting it for me 00:35:16.000 --> 00:35:18.000 because I could tell that 00:35:18.000 --> 00:35:19.000 wasn't enough information to 00:35:19.000 --> 00:35:21.000 pass a three hour test so I 00:35:21.000 --> 00:35:24.000 did the University of Wisconsin-Stout 00:35:24.000 --> 00:35:25.000 has a program which 00:35:25.000 --> 00:35:27.000 is excellent and you can do 00:35:27.000 --> 00:35:29.000 it -- you can do it on your 00:35:29.000 --> 00:35:30.000 weekends I know everybody's 00:35:30.000 --> 00:35:32.000 super busy but you can do it on 00:35:32.000 --> 00:35:34.000 your Sunday afternoon and it 00:35:34.000 --> 00:35:36.000 goes over a three month period 00:35:36.000 --> 00:35:38.000 and they kind of pace you 00:35:38.000 --> 00:35:39.000 through it so they don't throw 00:35:39.000 --> 00:35:41.000 it all out you -- it cost 00:35:41.000 --> 00:35:42.000 a couple hundred dollars but 00:35:42.000 --> 00:35:44.000 it -- you really feel prepared 00:35:44.000 --> 00:35:46.000 walking into the exam after 00:35:46.000 --> 00:35:48.000 doing that the practice test 00:35:48.000 --> 00:35:50.000 some people do that and pass 00:35:50.000 --> 00:35:51.000 it I don't know I was too 00:35:51.000 --> 00:35:54.000 nervous so -- I had to do but 00:35:54.000 --> 00:35:55.000 there are opportunities to 00:35:55.000 --> 00:35:59.000 get more experience -- and 00:35:59.000 --> 00:35:60.000 direct information about what's 00:36:00.000 --> 00:36:01.000 going to be on the test and 00:36:01.000 --> 00:36:04.000 what the expectation is you 00:36:04.000 --> 00:36:05.000 can hang a shingle with the 00:36:05.000 --> 00:36:07.000 CRC your scope of practice 00:36:07.000 --> 00:36:09.000 is a little bit limited but 00:36:09.000 --> 00:36:10.000 as long as you're working 00:36:10.000 --> 00:36:12.000 within your scope and you have 00:36:12.000 --> 00:36:13.000 the professional disclosure 00:36:13.000 --> 00:36:15.000 statement done -- and you've 00:36:15.000 --> 00:36:16.000 got the exchange of information 00:36:16.000 --> 00:36:17.000 of what they can expect for 00:36:17.000 --> 00:36:21.000 x number of dollars and -- go ahead 00:36:21.000 --> 00:36:22.000 I'm gonna disagree with you just a little 00:36:22.000 --> 00:36:25.000 bit okay alright because 00:36:25.000 --> 00:36:27.000 you are in a mental health 00:36:27.000 --> 00:36:30.000 counseling program with CRC 00:36:30.000 --> 00:36:33.000 also added your training is 00:36:33.000 --> 00:36:34.000 now mental health totally 00:36:34.000 --> 00:36:36.000 and completely if you open up 00:36:36.000 --> 00:36:39.000 just a rehabilitation counseling 00:36:39.000 --> 00:36:41.000 office you're gonna 00:36:41.000 --> 00:36:43.000 use your mental health counseling 00:36:43.000 --> 00:36:45.000 as part of that and 00:36:45.000 --> 00:36:46.000 if you are doing that and 00:36:46.000 --> 00:36:48.000 not being registered or licensed 00:36:48.000 --> 00:36:50.000 with the Board you are opening 00:36:50.000 --> 00:36:52.000 yourself up for a compliance 00:36:52.000 --> 00:36:55.000 issue either with OBLPCT 00:36:55.000 --> 00:36:57.000 or the Board of Psychology or 00:36:57.000 --> 00:36:59.000 the Board of Social Workers 00:36:59.000 --> 00:36:61.000 alright so because you have 00:37:01.000 --> 00:37:03.000 that training it is hard to 00:37:03.000 --> 00:37:06.000 separate one from the other 00:37:06.000 --> 00:37:08.000 I give the same advice to 00:37:08.000 --> 00:37:09.000 people who want to open up a 00:37:09.000 --> 00:37:12.000 coaching office that had the 00:37:12.000 --> 00:37:14.000 same type of degree coaching 00:37:14.000 --> 00:37:16.000 is a completely separate 00:37:16.000 --> 00:37:18.000 field now however if you've 00:37:18.000 --> 00:37:20.000 got the training as a mental 00:37:20.000 --> 00:37:21.000 health counselor it's very 00:37:21.000 --> 00:37:24.000 difficult to keep it separate 00:37:24.000 --> 00:37:27.000 I will tell you it's impossible 00:37:27.000 --> 00:37:28.000 alright because there's going 00:37:28.000 --> 00:37:29.000 to be that one client that 00:37:29.000 --> 00:37:32.000 you're using both for alright 00:37:32.000 --> 00:37:34.000 so you have to be very very 00:37:34.000 --> 00:37:36.000 careful if you open up a very 00:37:36.000 --> 00:37:39.000 limited practice speaking from 00:37:39.000 --> 00:37:40.000 someone who went through the 00:37:40.000 --> 00:37:42.000 process of getting my LPC 00:37:42.000 --> 00:37:44.000 while working as a VRC 00:37:44.000 --> 00:37:47.000 time because not all of 00:37:47.000 --> 00:37:48.000 your hours are direct client 00:37:48.000 --> 00:37:49.000 contact hours you may be 00:37:49.000 --> 00:37:51.000 handing someone an AFP 00:37:51.000 --> 00:37:52.000 for ten minutes and talking 00:37:52.000 --> 00:37:53.000 about the weather that's 00:37:53.000 --> 00:37:55.000 not -- doesn't count I 00:37:55.000 --> 00:37:57.000 mean they have to be they 00:37:57.000 --> 00:37:58.000 have to be hours that you're 00:37:58.000 --> 00:37:60.000 actually engaged with the 00:38:00.000 --> 00:38:01.000 client in some kind of 00:38:01.000 --> 00:38:04.000 counseling situation and so if 00:38:04.000 --> 00:38:05.000 you're doing a mental health 00:38:05.000 --> 00:38:08.000 internship you usually get five six 00:38:08.000 --> 00:38:09.000 seven clients a day and it goes 00:38:09.000 --> 00:38:11.000 pretty quickly you usually can get 00:38:11.000 --> 00:38:13.000 your licensure in a couple years 00:38:16.000 --> 00:38:17.000 it's not good or bad it just 00:38:17.000 --> 00:38:20.000 takes longer and so it costs 00:38:20.000 --> 00:38:23.000 more because it takes longer I 00:38:23.000 --> 00:38:24.000 did my internship here at the 00:38:24.000 --> 00:38:28.000 counseling center and so you -- 00:38:28.000 --> 00:38:29.000 are in a good position to get 00:38:29.000 --> 00:38:31.000 your internship because those 00:38:31.000 --> 00:38:33.000 hours are you doing a mental 00:38:33.000 --> 00:38:35.000 health counselling internship 00:38:35.000 --> 00:38:37.000 all of those hours will go 00:38:37.000 --> 00:38:39.000 towards your internship are 00:38:39.000 --> 00:38:43.000 your -- -- your intern your -- direct client 00:38:43.000 --> 00:38:44.000 contact all -- all of those 00:38:44.000 --> 00:38:46.000 will be direct client contact 00:38:46.000 --> 00:38:48.000 that will go towards your -- 00:38:48.000 --> 00:38:52.000 your -- LPC so once you get 00:38:52.000 --> 00:38:53.000 out of your -- your program 00:38:53.000 --> 00:38:55.000 you'll have four hundred hours 00:38:55.000 --> 00:38:58.000 on already which I did which 00:38:58.000 --> 00:38:60.000 was a nice start you know -- 00:39:00.000 --> 00:39:03.000 gets you kind of going -- and 00:39:03.000 --> 00:39:05.000 then you can start you know 00:39:05.000 --> 00:39:08.000 I recommend if you do the one 00:39:08.000 --> 00:39:10.000 health internship and I can be 00:39:10.000 --> 00:39:11.000 totally honest here with 00:39:11.000 --> 00:39:13.000 you guys is VRC 00:39:13.000 --> 00:39:15.000 doesn't like it VR 00:39:15.000 --> 00:39:17.000 mental -- I'm just saying this 00:39:17.000 --> 00:39:20.000 from my experience -- they 00:39:20.000 --> 00:39:22.000 don't they want to know why you 00:39:22.000 --> 00:39:24.000 didn't do a VR internship 00:39:24.000 --> 00:39:26.000 if you want to be in VR and I 00:39:26.000 --> 00:39:28.000 was like because I wanted to 00:39:28.000 --> 00:39:31.000 do mental health internship 00:39:31.000 --> 00:39:33.000 and they were like well we 00:39:33.000 --> 00:39:34.000 think you're not going to stick 00:39:34.000 --> 00:39:36.000 around so it took me awhile to 00:39:36.000 --> 00:39:37.000 get a job in VR 00:39:37.000 --> 00:39:39.000 I -- actually worked for social 00:39:39.000 --> 00:39:41.000 security for a few months 00:39:41.000 --> 00:39:42.000 before I got into VR 00:39:42.000 --> 00:39:44.000 in Albany but I had my -- 00:39:44.000 --> 00:39:46.000 my scholarship to pay back 00:39:46.000 --> 00:39:48.000 just like everybody else so I 00:39:48.000 --> 00:39:50.000 wanted my fair shot at working 00:39:50.000 --> 00:39:51.000 in -- as a VR 00:39:51.000 --> 00:39:52.000 counselor and to do my pay 00:39:52.000 --> 00:39:54.000 back and I thought I deserved 00:39:54.000 --> 00:39:56.000 to do that so I just kept 00:39:56.000 --> 00:39:58.000 interviewing kept -- and they were 00:39:58.000 --> 00:39:61.000 just like give her a job okay 00:40:01.000 --> 00:40:05.000 make her go away and then I 00:40:05.000 --> 00:40:06.000 started working for VR in 00:40:06.000 --> 00:40:08.000 Albany and then I wanted to be 00:40:08.000 --> 00:40:10.000 closer to home so I transferred 00:40:10.000 --> 00:40:11.000 to Salem so once you're in 00:40:11.000 --> 00:40:13.000 and you do a good job you can 00:40:13.000 --> 00:40:15.000 pretty much move around pretty 00:40:15.000 --> 00:40:18.000 easily -- the thing about I 00:40:18.000 --> 00:40:20.000 recommend the minute you 00:40:20.000 --> 00:40:22.000 start working as a VRC 00:40:22.000 --> 00:40:24.000 you get a supervisor a good 00:40:24.000 --> 00:40:27.000 supervisor -- and somebody you 00:40:27.000 --> 00:40:28.000 really click with because not 00:40:28.000 --> 00:40:30.000 all of those supervisors are 00:40:30.000 --> 00:40:31.000 going to know what a CRC 00:40:31.000 --> 00:40:34.000 is they're like hmm see it's 00:40:34.000 --> 00:40:36.000 it's hard to find a supervisor 00:40:36.000 --> 00:40:38.000 that embraces VR 00:40:38.000 --> 00:40:40.000 and so when you find one they're 00:40:40.000 --> 00:40:42.000 like gold you know they're the 00:40:42.000 --> 00:40:44.000 gold standard for me and I went 00:40:44.000 --> 00:40:47.000 through -- just two but I -- my 00:40:47.000 --> 00:40:48.000 last supervisor was awesome 00:40:48.000 --> 00:40:50.000 and I'd be happy to give you her 00:40:50.000 --> 00:40:52.000 information -- and I'm gonna 00:40:52.000 --> 00:40:55.000 leave a couple cards here -- so 00:40:55.000 --> 00:40:57.000 get your supervisors start get 00:40:57.000 --> 00:40:59.000 your internship registration 00:40:59.000 --> 00:40:60.000 number and start counting 00:41:00.000 --> 00:41:02.000 your hours and believe me the 00:41:02.000 --> 00:41:05.000 years go by and before you 00:41:05.000 --> 00:41:06.000 know it you know you'll have 00:41:06.000 --> 00:41:09.000 your LPC on your CRC 00:41:09.000 --> 00:41:10.000 and the other thing that 00:41:10.000 --> 00:41:11.000 voc rehab pays for now is 00:41:11.000 --> 00:41:15.000 your renewal of CRC which is 325 dollars so that's 00:41:15.000 --> 00:41:18.000 nice too -- but it's easy for 00:41:18.000 --> 00:41:21.000 those five years to go past 00:41:21.000 --> 00:41:23.000 and you're like looking -- 00:41:23.000 --> 00:41:24.000 you know you think five years I've 00:41:24.000 --> 00:41:25.000 got all the time in the world 00:41:25.000 --> 00:41:26.000 but start getting your 00:41:26.000 --> 00:41:28.000 credits as soon as you can find 00:41:28.000 --> 00:41:29.000 trainings that you love and 00:41:29.000 --> 00:41:32.000 are passionate about -- and 00:41:32.000 --> 00:41:35.000 ask to go to them -- and most 00:41:35.000 --> 00:41:37.000 of the time your supervisor 00:41:37.000 --> 00:41:39.000 will let you like Renata 00:41:39.000 --> 00:41:40.000 was saying they're very open 00:41:40.000 --> 00:41:42.000 about that I'm lucky I have a 00:41:42.000 --> 00:41:44.000 supervisor who was like I'm like 00:41:44.000 --> 00:41:47.000 look at this great you know ethics 00:41:47.000 --> 00:41:49.000 class and it's in Lake Oswego 00:41:49.000 --> 00:41:51.000 can I go and she's like yeah okay you 00:41:51.000 --> 00:41:56.000 know go -- but I am I 00:41:56.000 --> 00:41:58.000 really love my experience in VR 00:41:58.000 --> 00:41:60.000 and I love the fact that you 00:42:00.000 --> 00:42:02.000 can do both and don't get 00:42:02.000 --> 00:42:05.000 discouraged because -- it is 00:42:07.000 --> 00:42:08.000 of people in VR are 00:42:08.000 --> 00:42:11.000 pursuing LPC so they may 00:42:11.000 --> 00:42:14.000 kind of look at you funny like 00:42:14.000 --> 00:42:16.000 you know and a lot of that 00:42:16.000 --> 00:42:17.000 is just because they didn't 00:42:17.000 --> 00:42:18.000 take the opportunity and do it 00:42:18.000 --> 00:42:21.000 themselves and so be aware of 00:42:21.000 --> 00:42:22.000 that when you get in there I 00:42:22.000 --> 00:42:24.000 mean you can talk about it it's 00:42:24.000 --> 00:42:25.000 getting more and more common 00:42:25.000 --> 00:42:28.000 but I was the only one I knew 00:42:30.000 --> 00:42:32.000 that pursued an LPC I 00:42:32.000 --> 00:42:33.000 knew there was one in 00:42:33.000 --> 00:42:35.000 Portland one VRC 00:42:35.000 --> 00:42:37.000 who was an LPC in Portland 00:42:37.000 --> 00:42:39.000 actually two in Portland that 00:42:39.000 --> 00:42:41.000 I gleaned some information from 00:42:41.000 --> 00:42:42.000 and then I talked to Julia Smith 00:42:42.000 --> 00:42:46.000 who told me -- you're 00:42:46.000 --> 00:42:47.000 forging new territory here 00:42:47.000 --> 00:42:50.000 because -- it's really -- it 00:42:52.000 --> 00:42:54.000 has a lot of obstacles because 00:42:54.000 --> 00:42:55.000 not everyone that you're going 00:42:55.000 --> 00:42:56.000 to be working with is going to 00:42:56.000 --> 00:42:59.000 be excited about it -- people 00:42:59.000 --> 00:42:61.000 are intimidated by it I don't know 00:43:01.000 --> 00:43:03.000 they -- I don't know it's a 00:43:03.000 --> 00:43:06.000 lot of funny stuff but -- yeah 00:43:06.000 --> 00:43:08.000 just do your thing and get a 00:43:08.000 --> 00:43:10.000 good supervisor and count your 00:43:10.000 --> 00:43:12.000 hours you know every direct 00:43:12.000 --> 00:43:14.000 client contact hour that you 00:43:14.000 --> 00:43:15.000 got whether it's on the phone 00:43:15.000 --> 00:43:19.000 whether it's in person -- and 00:43:19.000 --> 00:43:20.000 that's kind of the hardest 00:43:20.000 --> 00:43:21.000 thing to keep track we have 00:43:21.000 --> 00:43:23.000 outlook and so I kind of 00:43:23.000 --> 00:43:26.000 color code my hours so I have 00:43:26.000 --> 00:43:27.000 if I ever got audited I can 00:43:27.000 --> 00:43:28.000 go back and say these are my 00:43:28.000 --> 00:43:30.000 direct client contact hours and 00:43:30.000 --> 00:43:32.000 it has to match up with your 00:43:33.000 --> 00:43:37.000 to Lonny -- but I mean I never 00:43:37.000 --> 00:43:38.000 thought I'd get there and so 00:43:38.000 --> 00:43:40.000 I got my licensure the first 00:43:40.000 --> 00:43:44.000 of this month so it was really exciting 00:43:44.000 --> 00:43:46.000 thank you and it can 00:43:46.000 --> 00:43:48.000 be done and you can do both 00:43:51.000 --> 00:43:53.000 territory and when you talk 00:43:53.000 --> 00:43:55.000 to your supervisors about it 00:43:55.000 --> 00:43:56.000 they're not all going to be 00:43:56.000 --> 00:43:58.000 super excited because they're 00:43:58.000 --> 00:43:59.000 going to probably think you're 00:43:59.000 --> 00:43:62.000 leaving or something like that 00:44:02.000 --> 00:44:04.000 and -- or they just aren't they 00:44:04.000 --> 00:44:06.000 just don't know they haven't 00:44:06.000 --> 00:44:08.000 been down that road before so 00:44:08.000 --> 00:44:10.000 this is my personal disclosure 00:44:10.000 --> 00:44:12.000 statement and I usually have 00:44:12.000 --> 00:44:14.000 it on one page and I hand this 00:44:14.000 --> 00:44:17.000 out to my clients at VR -- 00:44:17.000 --> 00:44:18.000 and I thought I would pass it 00:44:18.000 --> 00:44:19.000 around if you want to take a 00:44:19.000 --> 00:44:22.000 look at what I put together 00:44:24.000 --> 00:44:26.000 but our copy machine broke so 00:44:26.000 --> 00:44:30.000 sorry -- but it is it's really 00:44:30.000 --> 00:44:32.000 fun and I'm actually thinking 00:44:32.000 --> 00:44:34.000 of looking for a job in mental 00:44:34.000 --> 00:44:35.000 health I've been with VR 00:44:35.000 --> 00:44:38.000 for five years and -- it's 00:44:38.000 --> 00:44:40.000 been a great five years and 00:44:40.000 --> 00:44:41.000 it may be who knows it'll be 00:44:41.000 --> 00:44:43.000 maybe another five more I don't 00:44:43.000 --> 00:44:45.000 know we'll see if I get hired 00:44:45.000 --> 00:44:48.000 somewhere but -- yeah so do 00:44:48.000 --> 00:44:50.000 you have any questions about 00:44:50.000 --> 00:44:52.000 the process how difficult was 00:44:52.000 --> 00:44:55.000 it to -- change supervisors 00:44:55.000 --> 00:44:57.000 and tell your supervisor that 00:44:57.000 --> 00:44:59.000 you wanted to move on -- my 00:44:59.000 --> 00:44:60.000 situation was different in 00:45:00.000 --> 00:45:02.000 that that wasn't my choice the 00:45:02.000 --> 00:45:04.000 supervisor -- got in trouble 00:45:04.000 --> 00:45:07.000 with the Board over something 00:45:07.000 --> 00:45:08.000 that I'm not gonna go into 00:45:08.000 --> 00:45:11.000 but she -- chose to relinquish 00:45:11.000 --> 00:45:12.000 her license and do some other 00:45:12.000 --> 00:45:16.000 things so I was kind of I had 00:45:16.000 --> 00:45:17.000 to find another supervisor 00:45:17.000 --> 00:45:18.000 fast because I didn't want to 00:45:18.000 --> 00:45:20.000 lose a month's worth of worth 00:45:20.000 --> 00:45:23.000 of hours so I got a referral 00:45:23.000 --> 00:45:26.000 and -- found a great woman 00:45:26.000 --> 00:45:28.000 named Michelle Cox who is just 00:45:28.000 --> 00:45:32.000 an amazing amazing person -- 00:45:32.000 --> 00:45:35.000 and -- so she helped me finish 00:45:35.000 --> 00:45:37.000 out my hours but to answer your 00:45:37.000 --> 00:45:40.000 question honestly I think -- 00:45:40.000 --> 00:45:41.000 if you find that you're not a 00:45:41.000 --> 00:45:43.000 good match with a supervisor 00:45:46.000 --> 00:45:47.000 that you'll probably get that 00:45:47.000 --> 00:45:48.000 right away and it will be easy 00:45:48.000 --> 00:45:51.000 to talk about you know just 00:45:51.000 --> 00:45:52.000 you feel like you know you need 00:45:52.000 --> 00:45:54.000 to move on for these reasons 00:45:54.000 --> 00:45:57.000 and it's -- it's your LPC 00:45:57.000 --> 00:45:59.000 it's your supervision you 00:45:59.000 --> 00:45:60.000 know if you're not getting 00:46:00.000 --> 00:46:01.000 what you need out of it then 00:46:01.000 --> 00:46:02.000 it's going to affect you as 00:46:02.000 --> 00:46:04.000 a counselor -- as you move 00:46:04.000 --> 00:46:08.000 forward so one of the things 00:46:08.000 --> 00:46:09.000 that I always tell people is 00:46:09.000 --> 00:46:11.000 that you have the right to 00:46:11.000 --> 00:46:14.000 interview your supervisor make 00:46:14.000 --> 00:46:17.000 sure it's the right fit make 00:46:17.000 --> 00:46:18.000 sure they -- understand your 00:46:18.000 --> 00:46:20.000 modality or they have your 00:46:20.000 --> 00:46:23.000 modality all right make sure 00:46:23.000 --> 00:46:24.000 that this is going to be a 00:46:24.000 --> 00:46:25.000 lasting relationship because 00:46:25.000 --> 00:46:26.000 you don't want to balance 00:46:29.000 --> 00:46:31.000 talk to them feel them out 00:46:31.000 --> 00:46:32.000 make sure that you know that 00:46:32.000 --> 00:46:34.000 this is going to work because 00:46:34.000 --> 00:46:35.000 they're going to be not only be 00:46:35.000 --> 00:46:36.000 your supervisor they're going to 00:46:36.000 --> 00:46:37.000 be your mentor they're going 00:46:37.000 --> 00:46:39.000 to be your friend all these 00:46:39.000 --> 00:46:41.000 things happen because you're 00:46:41.000 --> 00:46:43.000 in that type of relationship 00:46:43.000 --> 00:46:44.000 you know you're gonna depend 00:46:44.000 --> 00:46:47.000 on one another you know you on 00:46:47.000 --> 00:46:49.000 their knowledge and them trying 00:46:49.000 --> 00:46:50.000 to figure out what is best for 00:46:50.000 --> 00:46:53.000 you so it's a very important 00:46:53.000 --> 00:46:55.000 relationship if you keep your 00:46:55.000 --> 00:46:56.000 client contact hours around 00:46:56.000 --> 00:46:58.000 forty hours a month which for 00:46:58.000 --> 00:46:61.000 me is easy to do as a VRC 00:47:01.000 --> 00:47:03.000 Is it forty-five? It's 40 -- under 46 00:47:03.000 --> 00:47:06.000 under forty okay so under forty-six 00:47:06.000 --> 00:47:07.000 hours a month you have to 00:47:07.000 --> 00:47:08.000 meet with one individual and 00:47:08.000 --> 00:47:11.000 one group so the individuals 00:47:11.000 --> 00:47:12.000 usually run about a hundred 00:47:12.000 --> 00:47:13.000 dollars if you're doing 00:47:13.000 --> 00:47:14.000 private supervision and there 00:47:14.000 --> 00:47:16.000 were no LPCs where I was 00:47:16.000 --> 00:47:18.000 working so I had to pay for 00:47:18.000 --> 00:47:20.000 my supervision and the groups 00:47:20.000 --> 00:47:22.000 run around fifty dollars 00:47:22.000 --> 00:47:24.000 and usually they they -- the 00:47:24.000 --> 00:47:26.000 same supervisor will hold 00:47:26.000 --> 00:47:29.000 both they'll have groups and 00:47:29.000 --> 00:47:31.000 they'll have individual what 00:47:31.000 --> 00:47:33.000 do we mean by groups so in 00:47:33.000 --> 00:47:35.000 a in a mental health office 00:47:35.000 --> 00:47:36.000 you usually won't have to pay for 00:47:36.000 --> 00:47:37.000 your supervision you'll have 00:47:37.000 --> 00:47:39.000 group supervision where you 00:47:39.000 --> 00:47:41.000 staff cases and then you'll 00:47:41.000 --> 00:47:42.000 have individual supervision 00:47:42.000 --> 00:47:44.000 because obviously your boss 00:47:44.000 --> 00:47:45.000 is going to be an LPC or 00:47:45.000 --> 00:47:48.000 higher -- in VRC 00:47:48.000 --> 00:47:49.000 there's no LPCs to 00:47:49.000 --> 00:47:51.000 supervisor you -- supervise you 00:47:51.000 --> 00:47:53.000 in most instances -- that I 00:47:53.000 --> 00:47:54.000 know of so you have to pay for 00:47:54.000 --> 00:47:57.000 outside supervision and one of 00:47:57.000 --> 00:47:59.000 those can be a group where you 00:47:59.000 --> 00:47:61.000 and a bunch of other interns 00:48:01.000 --> 00:48:03.000 meet with the supervisor 00:48:03.000 --> 00:48:05.000 and you staff cases and you 00:48:05.000 --> 00:48:07.000 conceptualize cases and things 00:48:07.000 --> 00:48:10.000 like that so if you have more 00:48:10.000 --> 00:48:12.000 than forty six hours a month 00:48:12.000 --> 00:48:14.000 you have to have two individual 00:48:14.000 --> 00:48:18.000 and one group I'm sorry 00:48:18.000 --> 00:48:20.000 under forty six is two hours 00:48:20.000 --> 00:48:22.000 one has to be individual the 00:48:22.000 --> 00:48:24.000 other can be individual or 00:48:24.000 --> 00:48:27.000 group if it's forty six or more 00:48:27.000 --> 00:48:29.000 you need three hours one and 00:48:29.000 --> 00:48:32.000 a half has to be individual 00:48:32.000 --> 00:48:34.000 the other hour and a half can be 00:48:34.000 --> 00:48:37.000 individual or group I always 00:48:37.000 --> 00:48:39.000 highly recommend that you do 00:48:39.000 --> 00:48:40.000 have a group for what Renatta 00:48:40.000 --> 00:48:42.000 was talking about earlier 00:48:42.000 --> 00:48:45.000 having more resources all right 00:48:45.000 --> 00:48:47.000 and that's very very important 00:48:47.000 --> 00:48:49.000 as I told you I'm a paralegal 00:48:49.000 --> 00:48:50.000 you know one of the things I like to 00:48:50.000 --> 00:48:52.000 tell people is when you walk 00:48:52.000 --> 00:48:53.000 into an attorney's office 00:48:53.000 --> 00:48:55.000 what do you see you see books 00:48:55.000 --> 00:48:57.000 and more books and more books 00:48:57.000 --> 00:48:59.000 and that's because attorneys 00:48:59.000 --> 00:48:60.000 don't know everything either 00:49:00.000 --> 00:49:02.000 all right so you don't either 00:49:02.000 --> 00:49:04.000 so it's always good to have 00:49:04.000 --> 00:49:06.000 people that you can call and 00:49:06.000 --> 00:49:08.000 talk to about things and if you 00:49:08.000 --> 00:49:10.000 have a group plus your peers 00:49:10.000 --> 00:49:13.000 here plus your supervisor you 00:49:13.000 --> 00:49:15.000 have plenty of resources when 00:49:15.000 --> 00:49:17.000 you run across that client you 00:49:17.000 --> 00:49:20.000 have no idea what to do with 00:49:20.000 --> 00:49:22.000 and it happens a lot especially 00:49:22.000 --> 00:49:25.000 in the beginning you know so 00:49:27.000 --> 00:49:28.000 you won't typically go over 00:49:28.000 --> 00:49:31.000 forty six because unless you're 00:49:31.000 --> 00:49:33.000 just stacking your appointments 00:49:33.000 --> 00:49:35.000 like one after the other but 00:49:35.000 --> 00:49:37.000 there's a lot of paperwork 00:49:37.000 --> 00:49:38.000 in VR like there's a lot 00:49:38.000 --> 00:49:40.000 of paperwork in individual 00:49:40.000 --> 00:49:41.000 private practice too and all 00:49:41.000 --> 00:49:42.000 of that but there's a lot of 00:49:42.000 --> 00:49:44.000 paperwork in voc rehab so you 00:49:44.000 --> 00:49:46.000 have to set aside hours to do 00:49:46.000 --> 00:49:48.000 your paperwork your plans your 00:49:48.000 --> 00:49:51.000 eligibilities and you try to 00:49:51.000 --> 00:49:53.000 get three maybe four clients 00:49:53.000 --> 00:49:55.000 a day two three something like 00:49:55.000 --> 00:49:57.000 that and they're usually a 00:49:57.000 --> 00:49:59.000 clinical hour which is fifty 00:49:59.000 --> 00:49:61.000 minutes something like that to 00:50:01.000 --> 00:50:02.000 sixty minutes 00:50:02.000 --> 00:50:03.000 my LPC 00:50:03.000 --> 00:50:04.000 for individual was a hundred 00:50:04.000 --> 00:50:06.000 dollars an hour is that kind 00:50:06.000 --> 00:50:07.000 of common or was that -- 00:50:07.000 --> 00:50:09.000 my -- just my supervisor 00:50:09.000 --> 00:50:11.000 that's about -- the going 00:50:11.000 --> 00:50:13.000 rate I think they go as high 00:50:13.000 --> 00:50:15.000 as one fifty I haven't heard 00:50:15.000 --> 00:50:16.000 of anything higher than that 00:50:16.000 --> 00:50:19.000 but I imagine if you're getting 00:50:19.000 --> 00:50:21.000 I don't know somebody really 00:50:21.000 --> 00:50:25.000 famous they'll be -- they'll be -- they'll 00:50:25.000 --> 00:50:26.000 cost more you know the more 00:50:26.000 --> 00:50:28.000 credentials they have and the 00:50:28.000 --> 00:50:30.000 more experience they have the 00:50:30.000 --> 00:50:33.000 more they can charge seems to 00:50:33.000 --> 00:50:34.000 me do they charge you personally 00:50:34.000 --> 00:50:38.000 oh yeah that's a small fortune 00:50:38.000 --> 00:50:41.000 it's a big investment yeah 00:50:41.000 --> 00:50:43.000 so you get get five years from the 00:50:43.000 --> 00:50:45.000 date that you become an intern 00:50:45.000 --> 00:50:46.000 and I made the mistake and 00:50:46.000 --> 00:50:48.000 thought I was in my fifth year 00:50:48.000 --> 00:50:49.000 for some reason I was having a 00:50:49.000 --> 00:50:51.000 panic episode or something and 00:50:51.000 --> 00:50:53.000 Lonnie emailed me right back and 00:50:53.000 --> 00:50:55.000 said no you have another year 00:50:55.000 --> 00:50:57.000 but so it's five years right 00:50:57.000 --> 00:50:60.000 from -- oh I'm wrong I'm sorry 00:51:00.000 --> 00:51:04.000 there is no maximum time 00:51:04.000 --> 00:51:06.000 for you to get your hours each 00:51:06.000 --> 00:51:09.000 internship and then administratively 00:51:09.000 --> 00:51:11.000 is only good for five 00:51:11.000 --> 00:51:14.000 years so whatever hours that 00:51:14.000 --> 00:51:15.000 you've accrued during that 00:51:15.000 --> 00:51:17.000 first five years you don't 00:51:17.000 --> 00:51:18.000 lose they just move into the 00:51:18.000 --> 00:51:20.000 next internship is your new 00:51:20.000 --> 00:51:22.000 number that's all it is the 00:51:22.000 --> 00:51:24.000 minimum amount of time is 00:51:24.000 --> 00:51:26.000 two years if you read the rule 00:51:26.000 --> 00:51:28.000 the rule says that you have to have 00:51:28.000 --> 00:51:29.000 a minimum of supervision for 00:51:29.000 --> 00:51:31.000 three years but the Board is 00:51:31.000 --> 00:51:33.000 nice and gives you one year 00:51:33.000 --> 00:51:34.000 for your student internship 00:51:34.000 --> 00:51:36.000 and practicum so the minimum 00:51:36.000 --> 00:51:38.000 requirement is two years post 00:51:38.000 --> 00:51:40.000 graduate supervision so if 00:51:40.000 --> 00:51:42.000 you were to get all your hours 00:51:42.000 --> 00:51:44.000 within two years you can be 00:51:44.000 --> 00:51:47.000 licensed in two years I would 00:51:47.000 --> 00:51:48.000 say that the average is about 00:51:48.000 --> 00:51:50.000 three and a half originally 00:51:50.000 --> 00:51:52.000 I found my supervisor on the 00:51:52.000 --> 00:51:53.000 list but it took quite a few 00:51:53.000 --> 00:51:56.000 tries before -- I didn't get -- I did 00:51:56.000 --> 00:51:57.000 I didn't get that questioning 00:51:57.000 --> 00:51:59.000 voice of what's a CRC 00:51:59.000 --> 00:51:61.000 I got somebody who was willing 00:52:01.000 --> 00:52:03.000 to learn what a CRC 00:52:03.000 --> 00:52:04.000 was and yeah -- so you just kind of 00:52:04.000 --> 00:52:06.000 like reached out like hey -- I just 00:52:06.000 --> 00:52:10.000 I reached out yeah 00:52:10.000 --> 00:52:12.000 yeah my current supervisor 00:52:12.000 --> 00:52:16.000 yeah and -- I like your current supervisor 00:52:16.000 --> 00:52:19.000 oh yeah well my current 00:52:19.000 --> 00:52:20.000 supervisor is an academic she's 00:52:20.000 --> 00:52:23.000 a professor and a PhD -- that's 00:52:23.000 --> 00:52:25.000 my second supervisor the first 00:52:25.000 --> 00:52:28.000 one I found -- was through 00:52:28.000 --> 00:52:30.000 using the list and meeting I 00:52:30.000 --> 00:52:32.000 met several and I landed on 00:52:32.000 --> 00:52:34.000 one that I felt connected to 00:52:34.000 --> 00:52:35.000 when they go and look for 00:52:35.000 --> 00:52:37.000 the supervisor online does 00:52:37.000 --> 00:52:39.000 it list where they're located 00:52:39.000 --> 00:52:40.000 oh absolutely and you could 00:52:40.000 --> 00:52:42.000 probably tailor the search 00:52:42.000 --> 00:52:43.000 I just never done it I just 00:52:43.000 --> 00:52:45.000 Googled myself to see if I was 00:52:45.000 --> 00:52:48.000 on it and I was so you can get names 00:52:48.000 --> 00:52:49.000 off of their website then you 00:52:49.000 --> 00:52:51.000 can compare it to our list my 00:52:51.000 --> 00:52:54.000 list is alphabetical so it would 00:52:54.000 --> 00:52:56.000 be very easy to find if you 00:52:56.000 --> 00:52:57.000 tailor your request through 00:52:57.000 --> 00:52:59.000 their website in all honesty 00:52:59.000 --> 00:52:61.000 there is no maximum number 00:53:01.000 --> 00:53:03.000 that people can supervise 00:53:05.000 --> 00:53:07.000 quite a few that supervised 00:53:07.000 --> 00:53:09.000 ten fifteen interns a week 00:53:09.000 --> 00:53:11.000 all right I mean that's kind 00:53:11.000 --> 00:53:12.000 of their practice now they'd 00:53:12.000 --> 00:53:14.000 supervise and they'd do 00:53:14.000 --> 00:53:17.000 voc counseling on the side I can also 00:53:17.000 --> 00:53:19.000 academics that when they're 00:53:19.000 --> 00:53:22.000 not teaching supervise because 00:53:22.000 --> 00:53:23.000 as we know teaching this 00:53:23.000 --> 00:53:30.000 is a very good money maker 00:53:30.000 --> 00:53:33.000 sorry you know so they do supervision 00:53:33.000 --> 00:53:35.000 on the side so you know there's 00:53:35.000 --> 00:53:37.000 a lot of them out there -- 00:53:37.000 --> 00:53:39.000 it's a you know great profession 00:53:39.000 --> 00:53:40.000 they make a little bit of money 00:53:40.000 --> 00:53:41.000 but you know they like to 00:53:41.000 --> 00:53:43.000 make more okay let's be honest 00:53:43.000 --> 00:53:45.000 about it all right so yeah 00:53:45.000 --> 00:53:46.000 there there are a lot of them 00:53:46.000 --> 00:53:49.000 out there and you know what 00:53:49.000 --> 00:53:51.000 again you wanna make sure who 00:53:51.000 --> 00:53:54.000 you pick fits you all right 00:53:54.000 --> 00:53:57.000 there is a connection that's 00:53:57.000 --> 00:53:59.000 going to have to be there 00:53:59.000 --> 00:53:60.000 all right and like I said 00:54:00.000 --> 00:54:03.000 interview them and I would tell 00:54:03.000 --> 00:54:04.000 you if you say VR 00:54:04.000 --> 00:54:05.000 and they had no idea where 00:54:05.000 --> 00:54:06.000 you -- what it is I'd 00:54:06.000 --> 00:54:09.000 hang up and go to the next one 00:54:09.000 --> 00:54:11.000 I mean I really would you know 00:54:11.000 --> 00:54:13.000 because you know I want your 00:54:13.000 --> 00:54:16.000 modality is the most important 00:54:16.000 --> 00:54:18.000 thing you have okay scope of 00:54:18.000 --> 00:54:22.000 practice education training and 00:54:22.000 --> 00:54:24.000 experience all right you can 00:54:24.000 --> 00:54:25.000 get the education and training 00:54:25.000 --> 00:54:27.000 here all right but you want to 00:54:27.000 --> 00:54:29.000 have a supervisor that can help 00:54:29.000 --> 00:54:31.000 you with that experience all 00:54:31.000 --> 00:54:33.000 right and if they had no idea 00:54:33.000 --> 00:54:35.000 or no inclination or don't want 00:54:35.000 --> 00:54:37.000 to try to figure out what VR is 00:54:37.000 --> 00:54:38.000 you really want to go 00:54:38.000 --> 00:54:41.000 somewhere else how many credits 00:54:41.000 --> 00:54:43.000 does she have to have with her 00:54:43.000 --> 00:54:47.000 degree if you read under LPC 00:54:47.000 --> 00:54:48.000 education the first thing it 00:54:48.000 --> 00:54:51.000 says is if you have a 00:54:51.000 --> 00:54:54.000 CACREP accredited degree you 00:54:54.000 --> 00:54:55.000 meet the educational 00:54:55.000 --> 00:54:58.000 requirements all right it's 00:54:58.000 --> 00:54:60.000 when you go down and it says 00:55:00.000 --> 00:55:02.000 you don't have a 00:55:02.000 --> 00:55:04.000 CACREP accredited degree 00:55:04.000 --> 00:55:05.000 it talks about ninety hours 00:55:05.000 --> 00:55:07.000 and you having to meet all this 00:55:07.000 --> 00:55:09.000 stuff Oregon and most 00:55:09.000 --> 00:55:12.000 places that take CACREP blindly that's exactly 00:55:12.000 --> 00:55:15.000 what they do they do not review 00:55:15.000 --> 00:55:18.000 your education because you 00:55:18.000 --> 00:55:20.000 have a CACREP accredited 00:55:20.000 --> 00:55:22.000 degree she was wondering 00:55:22.000 --> 00:55:23.000 whether or not there was any 00:55:23.000 --> 00:55:25.000 indirect hours required there 00:55:25.000 --> 00:55:27.000 is none all we require is the 00:55:27.000 --> 00:55:29.000 direct client contact because you're 00:55:29.000 --> 00:55:30.000 gonna get the indirect hours 00:55:30.000 --> 00:55:32.000 no matter what you do if there's 00:55:32.000 --> 00:55:35.000 someone that's not on the list 00:55:35.000 --> 00:55:36.000 can you get them approved this is the 00:55:36.000 --> 00:55:38.000 supervisor list first of all 00:55:38.000 --> 00:55:40.000 the supervisor list is two ways 00:55:40.000 --> 00:55:43.000 to become a supervisor in Oregon 00:55:43.000 --> 00:55:45.000 there is a third way and the 00:55:45.000 --> 00:55:46.000 third way is without being on 00:55:46.000 --> 00:55:48.000 the registry and you have to be 00:55:48.000 --> 00:55:50.000 licensed for a minimum of three 00:55:50.000 --> 00:55:53.000 years okay you have to have 00:55:53.000 --> 00:55:55.000 thirty hours of supervision 00:55:55.000 --> 00:55:58.000 training and you have to pass 00:55:58.000 --> 00:55:61.000 the supervisor's law and rules exam 00:56:01.000 --> 00:56:03.000 if your individual has those 00:56:03.000 --> 00:56:05.000 three things they are eligible 00:56:05.000 --> 00:56:07.000 to supervise without being on 00:56:07.000 --> 00:56:09.000 the registry so the question is 00:56:09.000 --> 00:56:13.000 having been in the VR office and being a CRC 00:56:13.000 --> 00:56:16.000 and working towards my LPC in that office is there 00:56:16.000 --> 00:56:17.000 anything I would have done 00:56:17.000 --> 00:56:22.000 differently -- no I got 00:56:22.000 --> 00:56:24.000 on the bandwagon as fast as 00:56:24.000 --> 00:56:26.000 I could -- because it was 00:56:26.000 --> 00:56:27.000 really important to me I think 00:56:27.000 --> 00:56:29.000 the fact that Julia Smith 00:56:29.000 --> 00:56:32.000 made that test -- important 00:56:32.000 --> 00:56:34.000 enough for that the LPC 00:56:34.000 --> 00:56:36.000 Board recognizes it for LPC 00:56:36.000 --> 00:56:39.000 was enough for me to think -- 00:56:39.000 --> 00:56:41.000 I have the education I just 00:56:41.000 --> 00:56:43.000 need the experience to get this 00:56:43.000 --> 00:56:47.000 credential and I really -- 00:56:47.000 --> 00:56:48.000 like I mentioned earlier and I 00:56:48.000 --> 00:56:51.000 this isn't to put down VR or 00:56:51.000 --> 00:56:52.000 anything you're not gonna get 00:56:52.000 --> 00:56:55.000 a lot of you-go-for-its or like 00:56:55.000 --> 00:56:58.000 that because -- the atmosphere 00:57:00.000 --> 00:57:02.000 so you just have to 00:57:02.000 --> 00:57:04.000 kind of -- you know go your 00:57:04.000 --> 00:57:06.000 own way make your own path 00:57:06.000 --> 00:57:07.000 find your own kind and you do 00:57:07.000 --> 00:57:09.000 your supervision after hours 00:57:09.000 --> 00:57:10.000 and you know on your nights 00:57:10.000 --> 00:57:13.000 and stuff like that and -- 00:57:13.000 --> 00:57:15.000 but it does help as a VR 00:57:15.000 --> 00:57:18.000 counselor having doing the LPC 00:57:18.000 --> 00:57:19.000 track getting that additional 00:57:19.000 --> 00:57:21.000 supervision it's really it 00:57:21.000 --> 00:57:23.000 helps you at your job for me 00:57:23.000 --> 00:57:24.000 when the minute I became an 00:57:24.000 --> 00:57:26.000 intern with the LPC 00:57:26.000 --> 00:57:28.000 code of ethics for LPC 00:57:28.000 --> 00:57:31.000 and CRC 00:57:31.000 --> 00:57:33.000 so I followed both of them 00:57:33.000 --> 00:57:35.000 I think that the ACA code 00:57:35.000 --> 00:57:37.000 of ethics for LPC sort of 00:57:37.000 --> 00:57:38.000 supersedes it's kind of 00:57:38.000 --> 00:57:41.000 a bigger animal than the CRC 00:57:43.000 --> 00:57:45.000 very similar I mean there are 00:57:45.000 --> 00:57:47.000 some differences in that it's 00:57:47.000 --> 00:57:48.000 only three years before you 00:57:48.000 --> 00:57:50.000 can have a sexual relationship 00:57:50.000 --> 00:57:53.000 on the CRC and it's five years with 00:57:53.000 --> 00:57:55.000 an LPC and you know I 00:57:55.000 --> 00:57:56.000 mean there's there's little 00:57:56.000 --> 00:57:59.000 difference not that I was 00:57:59.000 --> 00:57:60.000 that interested in that but I 00:58:00.000 --> 00:58:01.000 thought that was interesting 00:58:01.000 --> 00:58:06.000 I was like three five I don't know you know 00:58:06.000 --> 00:58:08.000 differences like that but I I 00:58:08.000 --> 00:58:10.000 think trying to be an LPC you want to 00:58:10.000 --> 00:58:12.000 kind of go by the ACA 00:58:12.000 --> 00:58:15.000 code of ethics because that's 00:58:15.000 --> 00:58:17.000 your -- I don't know what would 00:58:17.000 --> 00:58:21.000 you say to that -- without offending Renata 00:58:21.000 --> 00:58:27.000 what go for it it's all good 00:58:27.000 --> 00:58:29.000 here's the deal okay you've got 00:58:29.000 --> 00:58:30.000 two code of ethics they're very very 00:58:30.000 --> 00:58:34.000 similar all right however your 00:58:34.000 --> 00:58:37.000 livelihood is with your license 00:58:37.000 --> 00:58:38.000 all right you're gonna be able 00:58:38.000 --> 00:58:40.000 to build insurance companies 00:58:40.000 --> 00:58:43.000 and etcetera etcetera the CRC 00:58:43.000 --> 00:58:44.000 is just a credential 00:58:44.000 --> 00:58:46.000 that goes on top of that so if there 00:58:46.000 --> 00:58:48.000 was and I don't think there 00:58:48.000 --> 00:58:50.000 is if there was a conflict and it 00:58:50.000 --> 00:58:52.000 became an issue then you would 00:58:52.000 --> 00:58:54.000 have to judge it but I would also 00:58:54.000 --> 00:58:56.000 bet you the CRC has a 00:58:56.000 --> 00:58:58.000 question and answer thing where 00:58:58.000 --> 00:58:60.000 you can submit a question and 00:59:00.000 --> 00:59:01.000 they would come back with the 00:59:01.000 --> 00:59:03.000 answer and I would also tell 00:59:03.000 --> 00:59:06.000 you that even though Lonnie is not 00:59:06.000 --> 00:59:08.000 supposed to give legal opinions 00:59:10.000 --> 00:59:13.000 questions to Lonnie he would 00:59:13.000 --> 00:59:14.000 probably tell you what code 00:59:14.000 --> 00:59:17.000 sections to look at working 00:59:17.000 --> 00:59:19.000 with the Board is that not the 00:59:19.000 --> 00:59:20.000 easiest thing in the world to 00:59:20.000 --> 00:59:22.000 do between Lonnie and Connie Brown 00:59:22.000 --> 00:59:23.000 and I don't know who 00:59:23.000 --> 00:59:24.000 else is in there they send me 00:59:24.000 --> 00:59:27.000 my renewal notices to my email 00:59:27.000 --> 00:59:28.000 that's why your email is so 00:59:28.000 --> 00:59:32.000 important -- they just it's 00:59:32.000 --> 00:59:34.000 just been -- actually a joy 00:59:34.000 --> 00:59:36.000 working with the Board -- even 00:59:36.000 --> 00:59:37.000 though it's taken me forever 00:59:37.000 --> 00:59:40.000 I've I've never had a question 00:59:40.000 --> 00:59:42.000 gone unanswered and when I was 00:59:42.000 --> 00:59:43.000 in that gray zone and didn't 00:59:43.000 --> 00:59:44.000 quite know what was going 00:59:44.000 --> 00:59:46.000 on Lonnie was really helpful 00:59:46.000 --> 00:59:47.000 I don't know if you remember 00:59:47.000 --> 00:59:49.000 my questions but you only deal 00:59:49.000 --> 00:59:51.000 with hundreds of interns but 00:59:54.000 --> 00:59:56.000 them and getting answers from 00:59:56.000 --> 00:59:57.000 them all the time they're very 00:59:57.000 --> 00:59:59.000 friendly and yeah and if we 00:59:59.000 --> 00:59:61.000 don't know the answer we're 01:00:01.000 --> 01:00:02.000 going to find out the answer 01:00:02.000 --> 01:00:05.000 because I'm curious all right 01:00:05.000 --> 01:00:07.000 or I'm gonna tell you where 01:00:07.000 --> 01:00:08.000 to look for the answer or who to 01:00:08.000 --> 01:00:11.000 contact because I -- you are in 01:00:11.000 --> 01:00:13.000 a position especially if you're 01:00:13.000 --> 01:00:14.000 in a private practice where you 01:00:14.000 --> 01:00:16.000 have to depend on yourself and 01:00:16.000 --> 01:00:17.000 like I said your supervisors 01:00:17.000 --> 01:00:19.000 not going to know everything either 01:00:19.000 --> 01:00:21.000 all right -- I've been doing 01:00:21.000 --> 01:00:22.000 this now for ten years so I 01:00:22.000 --> 01:00:26.000 know a lot of the answers and 01:00:26.000 --> 01:00:27.000 I can direct you in the right 01:00:27.000 --> 01:00:30.000 direction so by all means shoot 01:00:30.000 --> 01:00:32.000 me an email shoot Natalie an 01:00:32.000 --> 01:00:34.000 email -- she if she doesn't 01:00:34.000 --> 01:00:36.000 know the answer she asks me 01:00:36.000 --> 01:00:38.000 all right so bottom line is is 01:00:38.000 --> 01:00:40.000 we try to answer things or we try 01:00:40.000 --> 01:00:41.000 to tell you where to look for 01:00:41.000 --> 01:00:44.000 the answer someone asked about 01:00:44.000 --> 01:00:46.000 taking the exams which once 01:00:46.000 --> 01:00:47.000 you should do and apparently 01:00:47.000 --> 01:00:49.000 there is an exit I would 01:00:49.000 --> 01:00:51.000 recommend the following alright 01:00:51.000 --> 01:00:55.000 unsolicited advice all right I 01:00:55.000 --> 01:00:56.000 would take the CRC 01:00:56.000 --> 01:00:58.000 first alright and I would do 01:00:58.000 --> 01:00:60.000 that as your exit exam and it's 01:01:00.000 --> 01:01:03.000 purely financial all right if 01:01:03.000 --> 01:01:05.000 you take the NCE it costs you more to take it 01:01:05.000 --> 01:01:07.000 through the school than it 01:01:07.000 --> 01:01:09.000 does through us plus you have 01:01:09.000 --> 01:01:12.000 more hoops to jump through 01:01:12.000 --> 01:01:13.000 because you're applying 01:01:13.000 --> 01:01:15.000 for the National Certified 01:01:15.000 --> 01:01:18.000 Counselor's credential when 01:01:18.000 --> 01:01:19.000 you're doing it through the 01:01:19.000 --> 01:01:20.000 school when you're doing it 01:01:20.000 --> 01:01:22.000 through us you're only doing 01:01:22.000 --> 01:01:24.000 it because of the exam all 01:01:24.000 --> 01:01:26.000 right and we are the ones that 01:01:26.000 --> 01:01:29.000 authorize the exam all right 01:01:29.000 --> 01:01:32.000 not only that the school only 01:01:32.000 --> 01:01:34.000 offers it April and October 01:01:34.000 --> 01:01:36.000 because that's what NBCC 01:01:36.000 --> 01:01:38.000 tell them we have it offered 01:01:38.000 --> 01:01:40.000 every month she was talking about 01:01:40.000 --> 01:01:42.000 the different exams for NCE 01:01:42.000 --> 01:01:44.000 or NCMHCE 01:01:44.000 --> 01:01:46.000 that's the reason why you take 01:01:46.000 --> 01:01:48.000 the CRC first because 01:01:48.000 --> 01:01:50.000 then you can take the NCMHCE 01:01:50.000 --> 01:01:52.000 through us and we can authorize 01:01:52.000 --> 01:01:54.000 that all right so if you 01:01:54.000 --> 01:01:56.000 got -- they cannot authorize 01:01:56.000 --> 01:01:58.000 the NCMHCE 01:01:58.000 --> 01:01:60.000 she's asking about going to 01:02:00.000 --> 01:02:02.000 Idaho and what the exam will do 01:02:02.000 --> 01:02:04.000 and that's a very good question 01:02:04.000 --> 01:02:06.000 because I'm gonna answer that to your's 01:02:06.000 --> 01:02:07.000 specifically but in general 01:02:07.000 --> 01:02:10.000 too every state has their own 01:02:10.000 --> 01:02:12.000 different requirements as far 01:02:12.000 --> 01:02:14.000 as education experience and 01:02:14.000 --> 01:02:17.000 examination in the state of 01:02:17.000 --> 01:02:19.000 Idaho all right you before 01:02:19.000 --> 01:02:21.000 you can become what they call 01:02:21.000 --> 01:02:22.000 an LPC it's the same as our 01:02:22.000 --> 01:02:25.000 registered internship you have 01:02:25.000 --> 01:02:27.000 to have four hundred hours of 01:02:27.000 --> 01:02:29.000 direct client contact and a 01:02:29.000 --> 01:02:32.000 thousand total hours to become 01:02:32.000 --> 01:02:34.000 their LPC or registered intern you 01:02:34.000 --> 01:02:35.000 have to have that in school in 01:02:35.000 --> 01:02:38.000 order to get their LPC and you 01:02:38.000 --> 01:02:40.000 have to take the NCE 01:02:40.000 --> 01:02:42.000 in order for them to get 01:02:42.000 --> 01:02:45.000 licensed their actual clinical license 01:02:45.000 --> 01:02:46.000 it's called a Licensed -- 01:02:46.000 --> 01:02:48.000 Clinical Professional 01:02:48.000 --> 01:02:51.000 Counselor or LCPC you 01:02:51.000 --> 01:02:54.000 have to take the NCMHCE 01:02:54.000 --> 01:02:55.000 alright so you 01:02:55.000 --> 01:02:56.000 actually have to take 01:02:56.000 --> 01:02:58.000 both of those exams in order 01:02:58.000 --> 01:02:60.000 to get licensed in Idaho there 01:03:00.000 --> 01:03:01.000 are other states that are like 01:03:01.000 --> 01:03:04.000 that all right -- bottom 01:03:04.000 --> 01:03:06.000 line is is yes the national 01:03:06.000 --> 01:03:10.000 exam transfers everywhere 01:03:10.000 --> 01:03:12.000 okay and NBCC will 01:03:12.000 --> 01:03:17.000 verify it again www.NBCC.org 01:03:17.000 --> 01:03:18.000 you can order the exam 01:03:18.000 --> 01:03:20.000 official results sent anywhere once 01:03:20.000 --> 01:03:22.000 you've taken it it used to be it 01:03:22.000 --> 01:03:24.000 was cheaper to take the exam 01:03:24.000 --> 01:03:25.000 through us if you've got a new counselor 01:03:25.000 --> 01:03:27.000 that's great because one of 01:03:27.000 --> 01:03:29.000 the things that you guys have 01:03:29.000 --> 01:03:30.000 is you're gonna be interns 01:03:30.000 --> 01:03:31.000 and guess what they hire you 01:03:31.000 --> 01:03:34.000 because you're cheap alright it's 01:03:34.000 --> 01:03:35.000 not until you get licensed 01:03:35.000 --> 01:03:36.000 that you can really get more 01:03:36.000 --> 01:03:38.000 money I'm just being honest 01:03:38.000 --> 01:03:40.000 I've seen this for years now 01:03:40.000 --> 01:03:41.000 all right you -- there are a lot of 01:03:41.000 --> 01:03:43.000 positions out there open for 01:03:43.000 --> 01:03:44.000 registered interns because they don't have to 01:03:44.000 --> 01:03:46.000 pay you as much but you've got 01:03:46.000 --> 01:03:47.000 student loans you've got exams 01:03:47.000 --> 01:03:49.000 you've got a supervisor you've 01:03:49.000 --> 01:03:50.000 got all this kind of stuff and you 01:03:50.000 --> 01:03:53.000 know what it's expensive once 01:03:53.000 --> 01:03:54.000 you get licensed then you start 01:03:54.000 --> 01:03:56.000 recouping some of that okay 01:03:56.000 --> 01:03:58.000 but that's where you're 01:03:58.000 --> 01:03:60.000 at all right so again I would 01:04:00.000 --> 01:04:02.000 take the CRC first all 01:04:02.000 --> 01:04:03.000 right just because as your 01:04:03.000 --> 01:04:05.000 entrance exam and then 01:04:05.000 --> 01:04:06.000 because you went to a 01:04:06.000 --> 01:04:08.000 CACREP accredited program I would 01:04:08.000 --> 01:04:11.000 recommend taking the NCMHCE 01:04:11.000 --> 01:04:13.000 alright I would wait for about six 01:04:13.000 --> 01:04:15.000 months on that one just so you 01:04:15.000 --> 01:04:16.000 get a little clinical experience 01:04:16.000 --> 01:04:18.000 behind you because it is a 01:04:18.000 --> 01:04:21.000 clinical exam but it is more 01:04:21.000 --> 01:04:22.000 expensive to take the exam 01:04:22.000 --> 01:04:24.000 initially get your CRC 01:04:24.000 --> 01:04:26.000 and then if you just do 01:04:26.000 --> 01:04:28.000 continuing education units 01:04:28.000 --> 01:04:29.000 it's pretty inexpensive to 01:04:29.000 --> 01:04:31.000 monitor you're the one meeting 01:04:31.000 --> 01:04:33.000 the criteria they will pre 01:04:33.000 --> 01:04:34.000 authorize a course those 01:04:34.000 --> 01:04:35.000 are the easiest ones to take 01:04:35.000 --> 01:04:38.000 that are already -- meet 01:04:38.000 --> 01:04:40.000 the criteria for ex number 01:04:40.000 --> 01:04:42.000 of credits so do that it's 01:04:42.000 --> 01:04:44.000 easy to find that out when 01:04:44.000 --> 01:04:45.000 you get a certificate for 01:04:45.000 --> 01:04:46.000 a CEU it'll have a course 01:04:46.000 --> 01:04:48.000 number you just plug that 01:04:48.000 --> 01:04:50.000 into updating your -- 01:04:50.000 --> 01:04:54.000 your credits on the CRCC 01:04:54.000 --> 01:04:55.000 website and it just does the 01:04:55.000 --> 01:04:57.000 math right for you and you 01:04:57.000 --> 01:04:58.000 print out a new one or you keep 01:04:58.000 --> 01:04:59.000 a new one -- and it's just a 01:04:59.000 --> 01:04:61.000 running tally so when the five 01:05:01.000 --> 01:05:02.000 years rolls around and you're 01:05:02.000 --> 01:05:04.000 renewing it's all on there you 01:05:04.000 --> 01:05:05.000 know they're just sending you 01:05:05.000 --> 01:05:07.000 a new certificate with new 01:05:07.000 --> 01:05:09.000 names on it there isn't really an 01:05:09.000 --> 01:05:12.000 LPC exam except at the very end 01:05:12.000 --> 01:05:15.000 they tricked me no at the very 01:05:15.000 --> 01:05:17.000 end there is a little thirty 01:05:17.000 --> 01:05:19.000 three question exam on ethics 01:05:19.000 --> 01:05:22.000 and ROIs and not ROIs 01:05:22.000 --> 01:05:27.000 but -- a -- OARs and 01:05:28.000 --> 01:05:30.000 can't get any wrong and so that 01:05:30.000 --> 01:05:32.000 and then that goes along with 01:05:32.000 --> 01:05:33.000 your final hours and 01:05:33.000 --> 01:05:35.000 everything before you actually 01:05:35.000 --> 01:05:36.000 get your certificate so I was 01:05:36.000 --> 01:05:38.000 like I thought I was finished 01:05:38.000 --> 01:05:39.000 and then I found out I had this 01:05:39.000 --> 01:05:42.000 little test to take but anyway it 01:05:42.000 --> 01:05:43.000 was good it was good it was a 01:05:43.000 --> 01:05:46.000 good refresher you know we're 01:05:46.000 --> 01:05:47.000 we're gonna start with hers and 01:05:47.000 --> 01:05:49.000 then I'll go back to your question 01:05:49.000 --> 01:05:52.000 the law and rules exam is to make 01:05:52.000 --> 01:05:54.000 sure you read the law and rules 01:05:54.000 --> 01:05:56.000 all right you can put the exam up in 01:05:56.000 --> 01:05:58.000 one window and the law and rules 01:05:58.000 --> 01:05:60.000 up in the other and you can take 01:06:00.000 --> 01:06:01.000 as long as you need to in order 01:06:01.000 --> 01:06:04.000 to do it there's no pressure 01:06:04.000 --> 01:06:06.000 so you take one question a day all 01:06:06.000 --> 01:06:08.000 right it's not that hard it's just 01:06:08.000 --> 01:06:10.000 to make sure that you read the 01:06:10.000 --> 01:06:12.000 rules all right in answer to 01:06:12.000 --> 01:06:15.000 your first question which was 01:06:15.000 --> 01:06:16.000 how many times can you take the 01:06:16.000 --> 01:06:20.000 exam there are two answers -- or there's two 01:06:20.000 --> 01:06:21.000 parts to this the first part is 01:06:21.000 --> 01:06:24.000 while you're a registered intern 01:06:24.000 --> 01:06:27.000 there's no limit all right you 01:06:27.000 --> 01:06:28.000 can take the exam every three 01:06:28.000 --> 01:06:31.000 months because NBCC switches over their exam 01:06:31.000 --> 01:06:34.000 every three months all right 01:06:34.000 --> 01:06:36.000 however once you have met 01:06:36.000 --> 01:06:37.000 the experience requirements 01:06:37.000 --> 01:06:39.000 in other words you got your 01:06:39.000 --> 01:06:41.000 supervision and your hours 01:06:41.000 --> 01:06:42.000 under wraps and they are 01:06:42.000 --> 01:06:44.000 done you have two years to 01:06:44.000 --> 01:06:47.000 pass the exam and you've got 01:06:47.000 --> 01:06:48.000 three attempts once you've 01:06:48.000 --> 01:06:50.000 completed it is there any 01:06:50.000 --> 01:06:51.000 way that you can get a waiver 01:06:51.000 --> 01:06:56.000 on the exam the answer is no 01:06:56.000 --> 01:06:58.000 you have to take the exam once 01:06:58.000 --> 01:06:61.000 every year okay during that 01:07:01.000 --> 01:07:02.000 two year period and you have 01:07:02.000 --> 01:07:04.000 three opportunities to take 01:07:04.000 --> 01:07:06.000 it if you don't take that exam 01:07:06.000 --> 01:07:08.000 within the first year and it 01:07:08.000 --> 01:07:10.000 becomes the thirteenth month we 01:07:10.000 --> 01:07:14.000 expire you okay so and I'll 01:07:14.000 --> 01:07:16.000 tell you why when I first got 01:07:16.000 --> 01:07:19.000 on the Board okay which is 01:07:19.000 --> 01:07:21.000 nineteen or 2009 01:07:21.000 --> 01:07:22.000 maybe 2008 01:07:22.000 --> 01:07:24.000 we had an old fashioned 01:07:24.000 --> 01:07:26.000 file cabinet and two of those 01:07:26.000 --> 01:07:28.000 drawers were filled with people 01:07:28.000 --> 01:07:32.000 who had not passed the exam 01:07:32.000 --> 01:07:34.000 all right and some of those 01:07:34.000 --> 01:07:35.000 people had been in there 01:07:35.000 --> 01:07:37.000 eight or nine years but they 01:07:37.000 --> 01:07:39.000 were still interns because 01:07:39.000 --> 01:07:41.000 there was no rule that says 01:07:41.000 --> 01:07:44.000 they had to pass it all right 01:07:44.000 --> 01:07:46.000 so they changed it so you have 01:07:46.000 --> 01:07:49.000 to pass the exam in order to 01:07:49.000 --> 01:07:52.000 stay active alright I will tell you 01:07:52.000 --> 01:07:56.000 this about test anxiety and our 01:07:56.000 --> 01:07:59.000 particular exams the NCE 01:07:59.000 --> 01:07:60.000 if you wanted to get that 01:08:00.000 --> 01:08:01.000 out of the way as soon as 01:08:01.000 --> 01:08:03.000 you graduate or take it 01:08:03.000 --> 01:08:05.000 as you're out that's fine 01:08:05.000 --> 01:08:06.000 because right now you know 01:08:06.000 --> 01:08:08.000 that stuff you can slam 01:08:08.000 --> 01:08:11.000 that stuff all right so you 01:08:11.000 --> 01:08:12.000 take both those exams within 01:08:12.000 --> 01:08:13.000 a couple months that we don't 01:08:13.000 --> 01:08:15.000 worry about it then you can 01:08:15.000 --> 01:08:17.000 take your time doing the 01:08:17.000 --> 01:08:19.000 other one the NCMHCE 01:08:19.000 --> 01:08:21.000 and once you feel confident 01:08:21.000 --> 01:08:23.000 that you know everything plus 01:08:23.000 --> 01:08:25.000 they have you can pay twenty six 01:08:25.000 --> 01:08:28.000 bucks through the website there 01:08:28.000 --> 01:08:29.000 and they have all kinds of 01:08:29.000 --> 01:08:31.000 information that you can do 01:08:31.000 --> 01:08:32.000 for thirty days you can take 01:08:32.000 --> 01:08:35.000 sample tests they've got information 01:08:35.000 --> 01:08:36.000 NBCC's got a wealth 01:08:36.000 --> 01:08:37.000 of information and it costs 01:08:37.000 --> 01:08:41.000 twenty six bucks so again confidence 01:08:41.000 --> 01:08:42.000 is the one thing about taking 01:08:42.000 --> 01:08:44.000 exams all right seriously and 01:08:44.000 --> 01:08:46.000 right now you know most that 01:08:46.000 --> 01:08:48.000 stuff so get most of your 01:08:48.000 --> 01:08:49.000 licensing requirements out of the 01:08:49.000 --> 01:08:50.000 way right away and then worry 01:08:50.000 --> 01:08:52.000 about the other one and like 01:08:52.000 --> 01:08:53.000 I said that's the one that's 01:08:53.000 --> 01:08:54.000 going to end up giving you 01:08:54.000 --> 01:08:56.000 money too because TRICARE 01:08:56.000 --> 01:08:59.000 reimburses there are four 01:08:59.000 --> 01:08:61.000 testing sites in this state 01:09:01.000 --> 01:09:03.000 Portland Salem Eugene and 01:09:03.000 --> 01:09:06.000 Medford all right so there's 01:09:06.000 --> 01:09:07.000 a local testing agency I'm 01:09:07.000 --> 01:09:09.000 not sure where it's at but yes 01:09:09.000 --> 01:09:10.000 there's one here in town she was 01:09:10.000 --> 01:09:13.000 asking about reciprocity all 01:09:13.000 --> 01:09:15.000 it means is your licensed in 01:09:15.000 --> 01:09:17.000 another state in Oregon we 01:09:17.000 --> 01:09:20.000 have a two way reciprocity 01:09:20.000 --> 01:09:22.000 okay for the word itself all 01:09:22.000 --> 01:09:24.000 right if you've been licensed 01:09:24.000 --> 01:09:25.000 less than five years in another 01:09:25.000 --> 01:09:28.000 state you still have to meet our 01:09:28.000 --> 01:09:30.000 registered intern requirement 01:09:30.000 --> 01:09:31.000 all right and the reason that 01:09:31.000 --> 01:09:33.000 is is because of the state of 01:09:33.000 --> 01:09:34.000 Washington like I told you 01:09:34.000 --> 01:09:35.000 you could go across the river 01:09:35.000 --> 01:09:37.000 and be licensed over there in 01:09:37.000 --> 01:09:41.000 thirteen months all right all 01:09:41.000 --> 01:09:44.000 right so we had people who 01:09:44.000 --> 01:09:46.000 live in northern Oregon that 01:09:46.000 --> 01:09:48.000 would go across the river get 01:09:48.000 --> 01:09:50.000 licensed in Washington apply 01:09:50.000 --> 01:09:53.000 for reciprocity in Oregon all 01:09:53.000 --> 01:09:55.000 right be licensed in Oregon 01:09:55.000 --> 01:09:56.000 while their classmates were 01:09:56.000 --> 01:09:58.000 still registered interns 01:09:58.000 --> 01:09:62.000 working hard to get their hours 01:10:02.000 --> 01:10:04.000 all right so the Board heard 01:10:04.000 --> 01:10:05.000 about this and a couple years ago 01:10:05.000 --> 01:10:07.000 we -- it's an equity provision 01:10:07.000 --> 01:10:09.000 all right it's fair to the people 01:10:09.000 --> 01:10:10.000 that are working their butts off 01:10:10.000 --> 01:10:12.000 here getting their hours all right 01:10:12.000 --> 01:10:14.000 if you've been licensed for five 01:10:14.000 --> 01:10:17.000 years or longer then there's 01:10:17.000 --> 01:10:18.000 a lot of leeway and massaging 01:10:18.000 --> 01:10:20.000 and things that we will do in 01:10:20.000 --> 01:10:21.000 order to get you licensed for 01:10:21.000 --> 01:10:24.000 the most part it's a paperwork 01:10:24.000 --> 01:10:25.000 drill if you've been licensed 01:10:25.000 --> 01:10:28.000 for longer than five years all 01:10:28.000 --> 01:10:29.000 right but before that we're 01:10:29.000 --> 01:10:31.000 gonna make sure that you meet 01:10:31.000 --> 01:10:32.000 our requirements what is the 01:10:32.000 --> 01:10:35.000 benefit of keeping my CRC 01:10:35.000 --> 01:10:36.000 I just like that it kinda 01:10:36.000 --> 01:10:39.000 denotes a level of competency 01:10:39.000 --> 01:10:42.000 and proficiency that is 01:10:42.000 --> 01:10:44.000 easily recognized by my peers 01:10:47.000 --> 01:10:49.000 commitment to the CRCC 01:10:49.000 --> 01:10:50.000 Board it's important to me that 01:10:50.000 --> 01:10:54.000 it's still relevant so and -- and it keeps me 01:10:54.000 --> 01:10:56.000 current you know so I like the 01:10:56.000 --> 01:10:59.000 hundred hours -- especially the 01:10:59.000 --> 01:10:62.000 access to online at e-university 01:11:02.000 --> 01:11:04.000 so that's super simple I mean the 01:11:04.000 --> 01:11:05.000 content and the work isn't 01:11:05.000 --> 01:11:07.000 necessarily super simple but 01:11:07.000 --> 01:11:09.000 accessing it is super simple which 01:11:09.000 --> 01:11:10.000 it sorry what do you mean by 01:11:10.000 --> 01:11:12.000 that accessing any university? 01:11:12.000 --> 01:11:15.000 e-university -- through the CRCC 01:11:15.000 --> 01:11:16.000 Website -- I see okay -- so it's 01:11:16.000 --> 01:11:18.000 electronic -- I thought you said any 01:11:18.000 --> 01:11:19.000 no no no no no it's 01:11:19.000 --> 01:11:22.000 just the letter E 01:11:22.000 --> 01:11:23.000 yeah just the letter E 01:11:23.000 --> 01:11:25.000 university do I keep track 01:11:25.000 --> 01:11:26.000 of myself for is there a recording 01:11:26.000 --> 01:11:28.000 system there's a recording 01:11:28.000 --> 01:11:30.000 system so not all classes you 01:11:30.000 --> 01:11:33.000 take are going to meet the CRC 01:11:37.000 --> 01:11:40.000 so they will the CRCC will 01:11:40.000 --> 01:11:41.000 tell you whether or not a 01:11:41.000 --> 01:11:43.000 class or program or conference 01:11:43.000 --> 01:11:45.000 that you're gonna attend has been 01:11:48.000 --> 01:11:51.000 hours so like last August we 01:11:51.000 --> 01:11:53.000 had the annual in service for 01:11:53.000 --> 01:11:55.000 VR at the Salem conference 01:11:55.000 --> 01:11:59.000 center -- and Sheila Hoover pre 01:11:59.000 --> 01:11:61.000 approved got pre approved through 01:12:01.000 --> 01:12:03.000 CRCC I think thirteen 01:12:03.000 --> 01:12:05.000 and a half hours if but you 01:12:05.000 --> 01:12:07.000 had to have some documentation 01:12:07.000 --> 01:12:08.000 that you actually attended the 01:12:08.000 --> 01:12:10.000 classes or the sessions so 01:12:10.000 --> 01:12:11.000 you have to have the presenter 01:12:11.000 --> 01:12:13.000 sign off on it and then you 01:12:13.000 --> 01:12:14.000 turn it in so there's kind of 01:12:14.000 --> 01:12:15.000 a vetting system you turn it 01:12:15.000 --> 01:12:18.000 in to -- Sheila she tallies 01:12:18.000 --> 01:12:20.000 it and then she'll send you a 01:12:20.000 --> 01:12:22.000 confirmation that yep you met 01:12:22.000 --> 01:12:24.000 you fulfilled eight hours of the 01:12:24.000 --> 01:12:26.000 thirteen and a half or whatever 01:12:26.000 --> 01:12:28.000 it is and then you use the 01:12:28.000 --> 01:12:30.000 course number that is given it 01:12:30.000 --> 01:12:31.000 all this information is given 01:12:31.000 --> 01:12:33.000 to you you don't have to look it up 01:12:36.000 --> 01:12:37.000 put in the course number where 01:12:37.000 --> 01:12:39.000 it says updating your credits 01:12:39.000 --> 01:12:41.000 something like that on the CRCC 01:12:41.000 --> 01:12:43.000 website you fill in with that 01:12:46.000 --> 01:12:48.000 there's a long number -- and 01:12:48.000 --> 01:12:50.000 then it will tally it out for 01:12:50.000 --> 01:12:53.000 you so you're never doing 01:12:53.000 --> 01:12:55.000 any guesswork anything that 01:12:55.000 --> 01:12:57.000 counts towards LPC or anything 01:12:57.000 --> 01:12:58.000 like that that says licensed 01:12:58.000 --> 01:12:61.000 counselor social worker -- they 01:13:01.000 --> 01:13:02.000 take all of that a college 01:13:02.000 --> 01:13:04.000 class like I took the -- 01:13:04.000 --> 01:13:06.000 college level class it was fifty 01:13:06.000 --> 01:13:09.000 credits so I mean it was a 01:13:09.000 --> 01:13:11.000 graduate level class and that 01:13:11.000 --> 01:13:13.000 wiped out half of them I mean 01:13:13.000 --> 01:13:16.000 that's an expensive way to do it -- that is smart 01:13:16.000 --> 01:13:22.000 but yeah I took the -- the -- 01:13:22.000 --> 01:13:24.000 psycho pharmacology class at 01:13:24.000 --> 01:13:29.000 Western and so that was after 01:13:29.000 --> 01:13:30.000 I already graduated because we 01:13:30.000 --> 01:13:32.000 didn't need it at that point 01:13:32.000 --> 01:13:34.000 and then -- but I wanted to 01:13:34.000 --> 01:13:36.000 have it so that got me fifty 01:13:36.000 --> 01:13:39.000 continuing credits so you can 01:13:39.000 --> 01:13:41.000 take college classes and they 01:13:41.000 --> 01:13:43.000 count which is kind of nice 01:13:43.000 --> 01:13:44.000 there's a group in Portland 01:13:44.000 --> 01:13:46.000 that I love they every -- 01:13:46.000 --> 01:13:47.000 I think it's every third Friday 01:13:52.000 --> 01:13:54.000 they have different speakers on 01:13:54.000 --> 01:13:55.000 every third Friday and they're 01:13:55.000 --> 01:13:58.000 really -- great speakers 01:13:58.000 --> 01:13:60.000 and I can usually you know take 01:14:00.000 --> 01:14:02.000 the whole day and drive down 01:14:02.000 --> 01:14:03.000 there in the morning and then 01:14:03.000 --> 01:14:04.000 they have a little no host get 01:14:04.000 --> 01:14:06.000 together afterward which you 01:14:06.000 --> 01:14:08.000 can do a lot of -- you know 01:14:08.000 --> 01:14:09.000 meeting people in the field 01:14:09.000 --> 01:14:11.000 and stuff like that so I like 01:14:11.000 --> 01:14:14.000 that one then -- I'm going to 01:14:14.000 --> 01:14:16.000 the OSECE conference tomorrow 01:14:16.000 --> 01:14:18.000 Ashland -- in Ashland yeah which 01:14:18.000 --> 01:14:21.000 is for -- supported employment 01:14:21.000 --> 01:14:23.000 in Oregon -- Marion and Polk 01:14:23.000 --> 01:14:24.000 County I do the supported 01:14:24.000 --> 01:14:26.000 employment in my office and I 01:14:26.000 --> 01:14:28.000 think that one counts towards 01:14:28.000 --> 01:14:31.000 CRC -- I think so too -- yeah -- and there'll be 01:14:31.000 --> 01:14:32.000 some motivational interviewing 01:14:35.000 --> 01:14:38.000 of MI training but once you 01:14:38.000 --> 01:14:40.000 graduate you'll get a lot of 01:14:40.000 --> 01:14:44.000 emails -- that -- will give 01:14:44.000 --> 01:14:45.000 you different conferences we're 01:14:45.000 --> 01:14:47.000 guilty of that because people 01:14:47.000 --> 01:14:50.000 will buy our mailing list 01:14:50.000 --> 01:14:51.000 alright and you will get all 01:14:51.000 --> 01:14:53.000 kinds of things either email 01:14:53.000 --> 01:14:55.000 or in the regular mail as far 01:14:55.000 --> 01:14:57.000 as trainings go because people 01:14:57.000 --> 01:14:59.000 buy it in order to send it you know 01:14:59.000 --> 01:14:60.000 they want to be able to send it to 01:15:00.000 --> 01:15:02.000 people who are doing counseling so 01:15:02.000 --> 01:15:05.000 you will get stuff that way and 01:15:05.000 --> 01:15:06.000 one of my favorite conferences 01:15:06.000 --> 01:15:08.000 is -- the acronym's -- OETA and it's 01:15:08.000 --> 01:15:12.000 Oregon Education Training Association and they 01:15:12.000 --> 01:15:15.000 had a conference -- the end 01:15:15.000 --> 01:15:18.000 of the month in Newort -- 01:15:18.000 --> 01:15:21.000 so get to go to the coast and 01:15:21.000 --> 01:15:23.000 the content is just great 01:15:23.000 --> 01:15:24.000 consistently year after year 01:15:24.000 --> 01:15:26.000 after year -- because it's 01:15:26.000 --> 01:15:28.000 so popular I don't go every 01:15:28.000 --> 01:15:29.000 year because I have to share 01:15:29.000 --> 01:15:31.000 and let some of my coworkers 01:15:31.000 --> 01:15:33.000 go -- but I get to go this 01:15:33.000 --> 01:15:37.000 year -- so that's a good one 01:15:37.000 --> 01:15:39.000 keep that on your radar and 01:15:39.000 --> 01:15:42.000 it's OETA -- O-E-T-A 01:15:42.000 --> 01:15:43.000 the question is do we have to 01:15:43.000 --> 01:15:45.000 get the training in Oregon -- 01:15:45.000 --> 01:15:48.000 no as long as it's CRCC 01:15:48.000 --> 01:15:50.000 accredited course content 01:15:50.000 --> 01:15:53.000 material it's recognized I 01:15:53.000 --> 01:15:55.000 didn't check on any of my 01:15:55.000 --> 01:15:57.000 trainings to see if they were CRC 01:15:59.000 --> 01:15:63.000 kept going and -- and I got 01:16:03.000 --> 01:16:05.000 through it fine like I said if 01:16:05.000 --> 01:16:06.000 they're -- if they're 01:16:06.000 --> 01:16:07.000 approved for an LPC or a social 01:16:07.000 --> 01:16:10.000 worker or anything like that CRC 01:16:10.000 --> 01:16:11.000 usually takes them and they're 01:16:11.000 --> 01:16:14.000 considered professional because 01:16:14.000 --> 01:16:15.000 you guys work a lot with VR 01:16:15.000 --> 01:16:17.000 and so a lot of the trainings 01:16:17.000 --> 01:16:18.000 that'll come through that are 01:16:18.000 --> 01:16:22.000 focused -- on your VR training will be CRC 01:16:22.000 --> 01:16:23.000 approved and the conference and 01:16:23.000 --> 01:16:25.000 everything like that but the only 01:16:25.000 --> 01:16:26.000 reason I bring that up is just 01:16:26.000 --> 01:16:27.000 so that you know there's a 01:16:27.000 --> 01:16:29.000 wide range of things you can do 01:16:29.000 --> 01:16:31.000 that are CRC and you should know 01:16:31.000 --> 01:16:33.000 that as a registered intern you 01:16:33.000 --> 01:16:36.000 have no CEU obligation it 01:16:36.000 --> 01:16:39.000 only starts once your licensed 01:16:39.000 --> 01:16:41.000 so you'll have to do your CRC 01:16:41.000 --> 01:16:43.000 ones but they won't work for 01:16:43.000 --> 01:16:46.000 LPC until you become an LPC 01:16:46.000 --> 01:16:48.000 he wants to know about transferring 01:16:48.000 --> 01:16:50.000 your stuff to another state 01:16:50.000 --> 01:16:51.000 I would highly recommend that 01:16:51.000 --> 01:16:53.000 you Google that particular 01:16:53.000 --> 01:16:55.000 state's Board and find out what 01:16:55.000 --> 01:16:57.000 you need to do but I will 01:16:57.000 --> 01:16:59.000 tell you this from here on 01:16:59.000 --> 01:16:62.000 out never throw anything away 01:17:02.000 --> 01:17:06.000 all right I am dead serious 01:17:06.000 --> 01:17:08.000 if you've got supervision and you 01:17:08.000 --> 01:17:10.000 have hours that are recorded 01:17:10.000 --> 01:17:13.000 and signed by your supervisor 01:17:13.000 --> 01:17:15.000 make copies of it before you 01:17:15.000 --> 01:17:18.000 give it away keep everything 01:17:18.000 --> 01:17:20.000 I will tell you that California 01:17:20.000 --> 01:17:23.000 most likely is going to accept 01:17:23.000 --> 01:17:26.000 your signed off hours from any 01:17:26.000 --> 01:17:28.000 state all right however you 01:17:28.000 --> 01:17:30.000 have to prove and vet it I 01:17:30.000 --> 01:17:32.000 also know that California is 01:17:32.000 --> 01:17:34.000 going to request information 01:17:34.000 --> 01:17:36.000 on your supervisor to ensure 01:17:36.000 --> 01:17:38.000 that individual is actually 01:17:38.000 --> 01:17:40.000 a supervisor and meets their 01:17:40.000 --> 01:17:43.000 criteria for supervision so 01:17:43.000 --> 01:17:46.000 if you know right now that there 01:17:46.000 --> 01:17:47.000 is some other location that 01:17:47.000 --> 01:17:49.000 you're thinking about moving 01:17:49.000 --> 01:17:52.000 to or it's way out there I would 01:17:52.000 --> 01:17:54.000 check now that way you have 01:17:54.000 --> 01:17:56.000 an idea of what the requirements 01:17:56.000 --> 01:17:59.000 are there alright -- like I said 01:17:59.000 --> 01:17:60.000 I can tell you that if 01:18:00.000 --> 01:18:02.000 you meet our requirements you 01:18:02.000 --> 01:18:04.000 should be able to get licensed 01:18:04.000 --> 01:18:06.000 anywhere but make sure you 01:18:06.000 --> 01:18:08.000 have the documentation and 01:18:08.000 --> 01:18:10.000 make sure what documentation 01:18:10.000 --> 01:18:13.000 you have meets that state's 01:18:13.000 --> 01:18:16.000 requirements all right like 01:18:16.000 --> 01:18:18.000 I said it's mostly 01:18:18.000 --> 01:18:21.000 a paperwork drill but I can 01:18:21.000 --> 01:18:23.000 tell you that there are little quirks 01:18:23.000 --> 01:18:25.000 all right even -- and I can tell 01:18:25.000 --> 01:18:27.000 you I have a gal that I've been 01:18:27.000 --> 01:18:29.000 working with for a couple years 01:18:29.000 --> 01:18:31.000 now -- she graduated from the 01:18:31.000 --> 01:18:33.000 University of Idaho CACREP 01:18:33.000 --> 01:18:36.000 accredited program has worked 01:18:38.000 --> 01:18:41.000 and Boise it's the same agency in 01:18:41.000 --> 01:18:43.000 two separate states she worked 01:18:43.000 --> 01:18:46.000 most of her hours in Ontario 01:18:46.000 --> 01:18:49.000 tried to get licensed in Idaho 01:18:49.000 --> 01:18:52.000 with those hours was told they 01:18:52.000 --> 01:18:54.000 didn't meet Idaho standards 01:18:54.000 --> 01:18:56.000 and I don't know the reason why 01:18:56.000 --> 01:18:58.000 but because the majority of her 01:18:58.000 --> 01:18:61.000 hours were in Oregon all right 01:19:01.000 --> 01:19:02.000 if you're working in Oregon 01:19:02.000 --> 01:19:03.000 you have to be registered in 01:19:03.000 --> 01:19:05.000 order for the hours to count she 01:19:05.000 --> 01:19:07.000 wasn't registered in Oregon 01:19:07.000 --> 01:19:09.000 because she didn't have to be 01:19:09.000 --> 01:19:10.000 all right to do what she was 01:19:10.000 --> 01:19:14.000 doing so she's got six seven 01:19:14.000 --> 01:19:16.000 eight thousand hours that we 01:19:16.000 --> 01:19:19.000 can't count Idaho refuses 01:19:19.000 --> 01:19:21.000 to count all right and that's 01:19:21.000 --> 01:19:24.000 because -- that's awful -- well that was 01:19:24.000 --> 01:19:25.000 because she started working 01:19:25.000 --> 01:19:27.000 at an agency where she didn't 01:19:27.000 --> 01:19:29.000 have to be licensed -- and 01:19:29.000 --> 01:19:31.000 everything else that went she 01:19:31.000 --> 01:19:32.000 did all the other stuff that she 01:19:32.000 --> 01:19:34.000 thought she was doing right 01:19:34.000 --> 01:19:35.000 but she never checked with 01:19:35.000 --> 01:19:37.000 the Boards to find out what 01:19:37.000 --> 01:19:39.000 they required of her in order 01:19:39.000 --> 01:19:42.000 to get licensed you can get 01:19:42.000 --> 01:19:43.000 a hold of me but it's more 01:19:43.000 --> 01:19:44.000 difficult to get a hold of 01:19:44.000 --> 01:19:47.000 other Boards in other states 01:19:47.000 --> 01:19:49.000 I am very accessible our 01:19:49.000 --> 01:19:51.000 people are very accessible 01:19:51.000 --> 01:19:52.000 you won't find that that's 01:19:52.000 --> 01:19:55.000 true in a lot of other places 01:19:55.000 --> 01:19:56.000 Idaho and Oregon have the most 01:19:56.000 --> 01:19:58.000 stringent standards west of 01:19:58.000 --> 01:19:60.000 the Mississippi and I will tell 01:20:00.000 --> 01:20:02.000 you most likely even on the 01:20:02.000 --> 01:20:04.000 east coast most of the other states 01:20:04.000 --> 01:20:06.000 you know are kind of like Washington 01:20:06.000 --> 01:20:07.000 and California where they like 01:20:07.000 --> 01:20:10.000 to count indirect hours all 01:20:10.000 --> 01:20:12.000 right where they had these 01:20:12.000 --> 01:20:14.000 outrageous totals of three 01:20:14.000 --> 01:20:15.000 thousand or forty five hundred 01:20:15.000 --> 01:20:17.000 or whatever it is and two or 01:20:17.000 --> 01:20:18.000 three thousand of those are 01:20:18.000 --> 01:20:20.000 indirect well let me tell you 01:20:20.000 --> 01:20:21.000 for -- and you guys can tell 01:20:21.000 --> 01:20:24.000 me if I'm wrong but for every 01:20:24.000 --> 01:20:26.000 direct hour I would be willing 01:20:26.000 --> 01:20:27.000 to bet you you got two hours of 01:20:27.000 --> 01:20:29.000 indirect work you've got to 01:20:29.000 --> 01:20:31.000 do all right so if you've got 01:20:31.000 --> 01:20:33.000 fifteen hundred direct client 01:20:33.000 --> 01:20:34.000 contact hours and that's what 01:20:34.000 --> 01:20:36.000 California wants you've got 01:20:36.000 --> 01:20:38.000 three thousand thirty five 01:20:38.000 --> 01:20:39.000 hundred four thousand indirect 01:20:39.000 --> 01:20:41.000 hours on top of that so you 01:20:41.000 --> 01:20:43.000 meet the requirements the 01:20:43.000 --> 01:20:45.000 same goes with Washington they 01:20:45.000 --> 01:20:47.000 want twelve hundred hours -- 01:20:47.000 --> 01:20:50.000 and three thousand total okay 01:20:50.000 --> 01:20:52.000 and that's eighteen hundred indirect 01:20:52.000 --> 01:20:54.000 and guess what doing that twelve 01:20:54.000 --> 01:20:55.000 hundred you're going to get 01:20:55.000 --> 01:20:57.000 the eighteen hundred I will 01:20:57.000 --> 01:20:59.000 also tell you this we are in 01:20:59.000 --> 01:20:62.000 the age of the cloud right 01:21:02.000 --> 01:21:05.000 so if you got paper make 01:21:05.000 --> 01:21:06.000 sure you put it someplace or you 01:21:06.000 --> 01:21:09.000 save it online because I've 01:21:09.000 --> 01:21:11.000 had paperwork ruined by floods 01:21:11.000 --> 01:21:14.000 fires everything else so always 01:21:14.000 --> 01:21:16.000 have an extra place to keep 01:21:16.000 --> 01:21:17.000 all this documentation that 01:21:17.000 --> 01:21:19.000 you're saving all right the 01:21:19.000 --> 01:21:21.000 Board is one of them okay if 01:21:21.000 --> 01:21:22.000 you got certain stuff you want 01:21:22.000 --> 01:21:24.000 us to put with your records 01:21:24.000 --> 01:21:26.000 send it to us we'll CN it and 01:21:26.000 --> 01:21:27.000 put it in your file I don't 01:21:27.000 --> 01:21:30.000 care you know but yeah make sure 01:21:30.000 --> 01:21:32.000 you have alternate places to 01:21:32.000 --> 01:21:34.000 put that information my clients 01:21:34.000 --> 01:21:35.000 knew about supervision by 01:21:35.000 --> 01:21:37.000 reading my personal disclosure 01:21:37.000 --> 01:21:39.000 statement it had her name oh 01:21:39.000 --> 01:21:41.000 the question is I'm sorry the 01:21:41.000 --> 01:21:44.000 question is -- how do I work 01:21:44.000 --> 01:21:46.000 out confidentiality with my 01:21:48.000 --> 01:21:49.000 since my supervisor was off 01:21:49.000 --> 01:21:53.000 site right -- so on my personal 01:21:53.000 --> 01:21:54.000 disclosure statement that I 01:21:54.000 --> 01:21:56.000 give to all my new clients 01:21:56.000 --> 01:21:57.000 it had her name and her 01:21:57.000 --> 01:21:59.000 phone number that you know 01:21:59.000 --> 01:21:60.000 that I talked to her she's 01:22:00.000 --> 01:22:02.000 my supervisor if they had any 01:22:02.000 --> 01:22:06.000 questions -- and oftentimes 01:22:06.000 --> 01:22:07.000 when I'm talking about her 01:22:07.000 --> 01:22:09.000 we didn't talk -- full names 01:22:09.000 --> 01:22:11.000 we talked with initials -- 01:22:11.000 --> 01:22:13.000 or we talked about you know 01:22:13.000 --> 01:22:15.000 case number A or B or C 01:22:15.000 --> 01:22:17.000 and our client A B or C 01:22:17.000 --> 01:22:19.000 whatever we were working on 01:22:19.000 --> 01:22:22.000 at the time so -- it was more 01:22:22.000 --> 01:22:24.000 about case conceptualization 01:22:24.000 --> 01:22:26.000 than it was -- and it was about 01:22:26.000 --> 01:22:28.000 the individual client but there 01:22:28.000 --> 01:22:29.000 wasn't a reason to really -- 01:22:29.000 --> 01:22:31.000 disclose a lot of personal 01:22:31.000 --> 01:22:33.000 information about you know 01:22:33.000 --> 01:22:35.000 addresses or anything like that 01:22:35.000 --> 01:22:37.000 and so you -- you're required 01:22:37.000 --> 01:22:39.000 to give one of those to every 01:22:39.000 --> 01:22:42.000 client that you work with and 01:22:42.000 --> 01:22:43.000 pretty much gives everything 01:22:43.000 --> 01:22:45.000 on there that anyone they 01:22:45.000 --> 01:22:46.000 want to talk to the Board your 01:22:46.000 --> 01:22:50.000 supervisor so insurance is a 01:22:50.000 --> 01:22:52.000 good thing to get too I didn't 01:22:52.000 --> 01:22:53.000 mention that but once you -- once you 01:22:53.000 --> 01:22:56.000 become an intern -- it's really 01:22:56.000 --> 01:22:57.000 important to have insurance 01:22:57.000 --> 01:22:59.000 because even as an intern you 01:22:59.000 --> 01:22:60.000 can get your internship pulled 01:23:00.000 --> 01:23:04.000 from you -- by making 01:23:04.000 --> 01:23:05.000 a mistake or something I don't 01:23:05.000 --> 01:23:06.000 know right do you think that's 01:23:06.000 --> 01:23:08.000 a good idea yeah there is not 01:23:08.000 --> 01:23:12.000 a Board rule that requires -- 01:23:12.000 --> 01:23:14.000 malpractice insurance but you 01:23:14.000 --> 01:23:16.000 know what it's always a good 01:23:16.000 --> 01:23:18.000 idea I will tell you to look 01:23:18.000 --> 01:23:20.000 for national organizations that 01:23:20.000 --> 01:23:23.000 offer it maybe CRC 01:23:23.000 --> 01:23:25.000 does because the group policies 01:23:25.000 --> 01:23:27.000 are a heck of a lot cheaper 01:23:27.000 --> 01:23:28.000 than individual or smaller 01:23:28.000 --> 01:23:32.000 organizations so NBCC 01:23:32.000 --> 01:23:34.000 American Psychological Association 01:23:34.000 --> 01:23:36.000 American Counseling Association 01:23:36.000 --> 01:23:38.000 all of those have 01:23:38.000 --> 01:23:39.000 malpractice insurance and they 01:23:39.000 --> 01:23:42.000 have these big large groups 01:23:42.000 --> 01:23:44.000 and so your cost is a lot less 01:23:44.000 --> 01:23:46.000 expensive if you're working 01:23:46.000 --> 01:23:48.000 for an agency the agency will 01:23:48.000 --> 01:23:51.000 have malpractice insurance 01:23:51.000 --> 01:23:52.000 but guess what the malpractice 01:23:52.000 --> 01:23:56.000 insurance covers the agency 01:23:56.000 --> 01:23:59.000 not you just saying if they're 01:23:59.000 --> 01:23:61.000 gonna find fault there you know 01:24:01.000 --> 01:24:02.000 the malpractice the insurance 01:24:02.000 --> 01:24:04.000 carrier is going to support 01:24:04.000 --> 01:24:06.000 the agency before they support 01:24:06.000 --> 01:24:08.000 you if you leave an agency if 01:24:08.000 --> 01:24:09.000 your supervisor is going to 01:24:09.000 --> 01:24:11.000 sign off on your hours remember 01:24:11.000 --> 01:24:12.000 the contract that you're gonna 01:24:12.000 --> 01:24:14.000 sign which is the form seven 01:24:14.000 --> 01:24:17.000 we talked about is between you 01:24:17.000 --> 01:24:20.000 the supervisor and the Board 01:24:20.000 --> 01:24:22.000 all right so we do have some 01:24:22.000 --> 01:24:25.000 say so in how things are done 01:24:25.000 --> 01:24:26.000 alright so if you and your 01:24:26.000 --> 01:24:28.000 supervisor leave on bad terms 01:24:28.000 --> 01:24:31.000 all right we can intervene on 01:24:31.000 --> 01:24:33.000 either side if it needs to be 01:24:33.000 --> 01:24:34.000 because we are part of that 01:24:34.000 --> 01:24:38.000 agreement all right so and 01:24:38.000 --> 01:24:40.000 you know what it happens very 01:24:40.000 --> 01:24:43.000 very seldom it's not something 01:24:43.000 --> 01:24:44.000 that happens very often I 01:24:44.000 --> 01:24:46.000 will also tell you that you 01:24:46.000 --> 01:24:48.000 can have an agency supervisor 01:24:48.000 --> 01:24:49.000 and an outside supervisor 01:24:49.000 --> 01:24:51.000 if you want say your agency 01:24:51.000 --> 01:24:54.000 supervisor isn't VR 01:24:54.000 --> 01:24:56.000 interested or has anything 01:24:56.000 --> 01:24:57.000 to do and you want to 01:24:57.000 --> 01:24:58.000 get someone who is you can 01:24:58.000 --> 01:24:60.000 have another supervisor 01:25:00.000 --> 01:25:02.000 that has that particular 01:25:02.000 --> 01:25:04.000 training for your modality 01:25:04.000 --> 01:25:08.000 applause
