Their collective commitment has made a 00:04:07.000 --> 00:04:09.000 difference on this campus for years. 00:04:09.000 --> 00:04:12.000 Let's give them a round of applause. 00:04:12.000 --> 00:04:16.000 Heritage Society has been around for more than 15 years. 00:04:16.000 --> 00:04:21.000 It's how we recognize those that have left us in their wills, 00:04:21.000 --> 00:04:24.000 established a trust or done an annuity. 00:04:24.000 --> 00:04:28.000 It's an important group that makes a lasting impact. 00:04:28.000 --> 00:04:31.000 And truly are forever connected to WOU. 00:04:31.000 --> 00:04:35.000 We welcomed more than 15 new members to this group this year. 00:04:35.000 --> 00:04:37.000 And I'm just so thrilled about that. 00:04:37.000 --> 00:04:41.000 To tell you about the impact, I want to share a story. 00:04:41.000 --> 00:04:44.000 I want to share the story of Jean Spencer Minton. 00:04:44.000 --> 00:04:48.000 She was a 1920 grad. 00:04:48.000 --> 00:04:51.000 She would have been celebrating her 100th anniversary 00:04:51.000 --> 00:04:57.000 from graduating from OCE or really Oregon Normal School at the time. 00:04:57.000 --> 00:04:64.000 She was a well-regarded and important educator in the Oregon community. 00:05:04.000 --> 00:05:08.000 And over her career she amassed some wealth and she knew 00:05:08.000 --> 00:05:11.000 she wanted to give back to Western Oregon. 00:05:11.000 --> 00:05:15.000 But she also wanted to support her family. So she built a trust and after 00:05:15.000 --> 00:05:20.000 her passing the beneficiaries of the trust included family members. 00:05:20.000 --> 00:05:25.000 They received payouts over the last almost 30 years. 00:05:25.000 --> 00:05:28.000 And just this past year the last one passed away. 00:05:28.000 --> 00:05:34.000 And that's when the real impact of Jean's gift is felt here on campus. 00:05:34.000 --> 00:05:39.000 Last summer, we received nearly $800,000 to build scholarships to 00:05:39.000 --> 00:05:43.000 support WOU students thanks to Jean's gift. 00:05:43.000 --> 00:05:49.000 We are so grateful her trust was transferred to us to make an impact. 00:05:49.000 --> 00:05:53.000 And she if truly forever connected to the ripple effect 00:05:53.000 --> 00:05:56.000 that Western make in students lives. 00:05:56.000 --> 00:05:60.000 And that what each of those members of Heritage Society do 00:06:00.000 --> 00:06:04.000 now and into the future. So we want to thank Jean but we also 00:06:04.000 --> 00:06:08.000 want to thank all of you that are a member of the Heritage Society. 00:06:08.000 --> 00:06:13.000 Let's give them a round of applause. 00:06:13.000 --> 00:06:16.000 Tonight, we also recognize our Benefactors. 00:06:16.000 --> 00:06:20.000 Our Benefactors are our most generous donors. 00:06:20.000 --> 00:06:24.000 They have given more than $100,000 in their lifetime. 00:06:24.000 --> 00:06:28.000 Sometimes that's all at once, sometimes that takes a lifetime. 00:06:28.000 --> 00:06:31.000 We have three new members to this group. 00:06:31.000 --> 00:06:36.000 The first is Edith Mulkey. Edith used to be a Heritage Society member. 00:06:36.000 --> 00:06:40.000 She passed recently and left us part of her estate. 00:06:40.000 --> 00:06:44.000 That created an endowment to support women's athletics and 00:06:44.000 --> 00:06:48.000 track and field specifically. And we're so grateful for Edith 00:06:48.000 --> 00:06:52.000 for investing in WOU's athletes and our future. 00:06:52.000 --> 00:06:54.000 And we thank Edith and her family. 00:06:54.000 --> 00:06:57.000 Second, the Edouard Foundation. 00:06:57.000 --> 00:06:61.000 This is connected to us through a former employee. 00:07:01.000 --> 00:07:05.000 He saw in Western Oregon how we made an impact on our students. 00:07:05.000 --> 00:07:09.000 And has continued to invest in us even though he now longer works here. 00:07:09.000 --> 00:07:12.000 I love that part of it. 00:07:12.000 --> 00:07:16.000 We are so grateful that he's help spread and support 00:07:16.000 --> 00:07:19.000 student programs, like student media and Stonewall Center 00:07:19.000 --> 00:07:24.000 and Veteran's Success Center. And this year they gave $50,000 00:07:24.000 --> 00:07:28.000 to start a new scholarship endowment. We're so grateful 00:07:28.000 --> 00:07:32.000 and welcome Edouard Foundation to being a Benefactor. 00:07:32.000 --> 00:07:35.000 And finally, the Joseph E. Weston 00:07:35.000 --> 00:07:38.000 Public Foundation of the Oregon Community Foundation. 00:07:38.000 --> 00:07:42.000 Joe Weston is the definition of philanthropist. 00:07:42.000 --> 00:07:47.000 He believes in education and for the past 3 years he's given us increasing 00:07:47.000 --> 00:07:53.000 scholarship dollars to make a difference to our Willamette Promise students. 00:07:53.000 --> 00:07:58.000 He knows that a high school to transfer into college education and 00:07:58.000 --> 00:07:62.000 utilizing what we have here at Western to be successful is important. 00:08:02.000 --> 00:08:08.000 And we're so grateful that Joe has invested in us so we can invest in students. 00:08:08.000 --> 00:08:12.000 So if you'll help me let's give them all three a 00:08:12.000 --> 00:08:20.000 round of applause that welcomes them to the level of Benefactor 00:08:20.000 --> 00:08:23.000 I won't bore you with a bunch of statistics. 00:08:23.000 --> 00:08:27.000 You're going to receive a letter in the mail from us with more of that. 00:08:27.000 --> 00:08:31.000 But we had a ton of new scholarships this year, it was so much fun. 00:08:31.000 --> 00:08:36.000 We are really making increasing impact on WOU students. 00:08:36.000 --> 00:08:40.000 Lastly, I want to pause and talk about Dr. Woodcock. 00:08:40.000 --> 00:08:47.000 Last year at this time, we we're having President's Club concert, 00:08:47.000 --> 00:08:51.000 for those of you that remember.
