I majored in 00:00:02.000 --> 00:00:05.000 interdisciplinary studies at Western Oregon University. 00:00:05.000 --> 00:00:09.000 Today, I'm the donor relations manager at Marion Polk Food Share. 00:00:09.000 --> 00:00:12.000 In my career and development, I've been able to help 00:00:12.000 --> 00:00:14.000 so many people in so many different ways. 00:00:14.000 --> 00:00:17.000 But I knew if I came to Marion Polk Food Share, 00:00:17.000 --> 00:00:18.000 I would be able to help even more. 00:00:18.000 --> 00:00:22.000 More folks who are experiencing food insecurity. 00:00:22.000 --> 00:00:25.000 Beep, beep, beep (truck backing up) 00:00:25.000 --> 00:00:30.000 We have volunteers on a daily basis sorting donations from retailers, 00:00:30.000 --> 00:00:33.000 from food drives and from local farmers. 00:00:33.000 --> 00:00:38.000 And through the warehouse we're able to help not only food pantries but also fellow 00:00:38.000 --> 00:00:44.000 progams like Church in the Park, Boys & Girls Club and even the WOU Pantry on campus. 00:00:44.000 --> 00:00:48.000 Aside from the warehouse, we have a Youth Farm Program 00:00:48.000 --> 00:00:50.000 at a Chemeketa Community College campus. 00:00:50.000 --> 00:00:56.000 We serve 60 community gardens and we also support the local Meals on Wheels. 00:00:56.000 --> 00:00:60.000 My job consists of securing private funds so that can distribute 00:01:03.000 --> 00:01:06.000 For me, I didn't know right out of high school what I wanted to do. 00:01:06.000 --> 00:01:11.000 I knew I had all these skills but I didn't really know how to fine tune them. 00:01:11.000 --> 00:01:14.000 I needed direction. Western provided that. 00:01:14.000 --> 00:01:18.000 I think that if you come to Western and you have an open mind 00:01:18.000 --> 00:01:21.000 and you really lean on your professors and the staff, 00:01:21.000 --> 00:01:23.000 they're going to help you even dig deeper 00:01:23.000 --> 00:01:26.000 into what you really interested and passionate about. 00:01:26.000 --> 00:01:31.000 My interdisciplinary degree allowed me to sort of explore and be curious 00:01:31.000 --> 00:01:33.000 and that's truly who I am. 00:01:33.000 --> 00:01:36.000 I would absolutely recommend Western. 00:01:36.000 --> 00:01:42.000 You need a place where the staff and faculty care about you as a whole person. 00:01:42.000 --> 00:01:44.000 What makes Western special 00:01:44.000 --> 00:01:48.000 is they take students like me and launch them into jobs like this. 00:01:48.000 --> 00:01:51.000 music
