WEBVTT 00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:04.000 Music. 00:00:04.000 --> 00:00:09.000 I decided to come to Western to get my biology degree because it's close to home so it's very convenient. 00:00:09.000 --> 00:00:12.000 And it just feels like the right size university for me. 00:00:12.000 --> 00:00:16.000 Music. 00:00:16.000 --> 00:00:19.000 Music. 00:00:19.000 --> 00:00:26.000 This term for my biology courses, I'm taking molecular biology and anatomy and physiology. 00:00:26.000 --> 00:00:33.000 We get to do some really cool stuff for molecular. We're doing a lot of lab techniques, DNA, polymerization, PCR. 00:00:33.000 --> 00:00:39.000 In A and P, we do work with cadavers and this week we're actually dissecting pig hearts. 00:00:40.000 --> 00:00:48.000 And those are great because they're so similar to human hearts. So we saw the aorta and the pulmonary trunk and all the valves. 00:00:48.000 --> 00:00:52.000 My favorite thing about Western is definitely that my professors know me by name. 00:00:52.000 --> 00:00:60.000 They stop in the hallways to talk to me. They know about my family, what my career goals are, and they've supported me through the whole process. 00:01:00.000 --> 00:01:06.000 When I came back to school, it was really important to me not to just get a degree, I wanted to participate and have fun. 00:01:06.000 --> 00:01:13.000 I have been able to participate in different clubs and activities, like the natural science club and I am the president of that. 00:01:13.000 --> 00:01:16.000 And it's a great way for me to get to know my fellow students. 00:01:16.000 --> 00:01:21.000 I'm really happy with my decision to attend WOU and get my biology degree here. 00:01:21.000 --> 00:01:25.000 I've already been accepted to med school for the fall. 00:01:25.000 --> 00:01:36.000 And as a mother of four, it's been really important for me to be a great example for my kids and to show them that you can go back to school at any age and fulfill those dreams. 00:01:36.000 --> 00:01:40.000 Western Oregon University, where every student matters. 00:01:40.000 --> 00:01:44.000 Music. 00:01:44.000 --> 00:01:47.000 Music.
