Reading by Barry Kitterman Join author Barry Kitterman for a reading from his most recent book, "From the San Joaquin." Barry Kitterman grew up in California's San Joaquin Valley and received an AB (English) from the University of California at Berkeley and an MFA from the University of Montana. He served two years in the Peace Corps (Belize) in the mid-1970s; has taught at two universities in the People's Republic of China, Nankai and Qingdao; and in 2011, taught in London for the Cooperative Center for Study Abroad, a partner of WOU. In 1989-90 he was Hudson Walker fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA. He currently teaches at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN, where he is past coordinator of the creative writing program and the visiting writers series. He is the fiction editor for Zone 3 Magazine (APSU) and is an associate editor of The Green Hills Literary Lantern (Truman State University). In 2001, he received an individual artist's grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission. His novel The Baker's Boy was published in May 2008. From the San Joaquin, a collection of stories was published in 2011.

"Passing" Performance all day - Artist's Reception 4-6 p.m. Passing, a durational performance by artists Michele Feder-Nadoff and Kanaan Kanaan, is part of a series of collaborative works begun in 2001 as a response to on-going Middle East conflict and worldwide strife. Illuminated by their personal experiences of diasporas based on their respective Jewish and Muslim traditions, together they have created works that explore and symbolize and desire to maintain hope through trust. This event funded, in part, by the Polk County Cultural Coalition. Reception sponsored by the Cannon Gallery of Art.
