For several years, the pool around Imperial Geyser was a low priority red layer site given its vanishing edge community (as seen in 1988, 1998, 1999). In 2000, we decided to search the run-off channel for evidence of red layer communities and found what has been a stable splash mat adjacent to one of several collonades. Shown adjacent (July, 2001), the drainway is fairy close to Imperial Geyser (steam in background). The current site is technically off-trail, with general access via Fairy Falls.
