This remote red layer site was surveyed only once during a Yellowstone Institute/horse-supported course to Joseph's Coat via Pelican Valley in the northeast corner of the park. Located just west of Fern Lake, Ponuntpa Basin consisted of several potential red layer sites, only 1 of which was sampled. To date, only limited analyses have been performed.
