POLICY
Each residence hall student computer that will be connected to the WOU network
will be required to have a current working version of auto-updating anti-virus
software.
Each residence hall student computer that will be connected to the WOU network
that uses the Windows 2000/XP operating system will be required to have the
Windows operating system auto-update service active.
PURPOSE
The goal of this policy is to maintain the highest level of security and
performance on the WOU network.
PROCEDURES
Security will be turned on for all Residence Hall networking switches. Student
residence hall computers will be allowed access to the WOU network when it has
been verified that the following criteria exists:
1. The student has auto-updating anti-virus software installed on their
student computer with the auto-update option turned on. The auto-update
license must be valid while the computer is attached to the WOU network.
2. WOU will install auto-update anti-virus protection on each residence
hall computer that does not meet criteria 1.
3. For computers running Windows 2000/XP, auto-update service will be set
to auto-update without user intervention.
AUTHORITY
ORS 351.070 and ORS 351.072
APPROVAL
Each residence hall student is responsible for leaving the anti-virus and
operating system setting left in the auto-update mode.
University Computing Services is responsible for disconnecting residence hall
computers from the WOU network that do not meet the criteria of this policy.
