    POLICY

    Western Oregon University provides material in an atmosphere where the 
    free individual can examine many points of view and make his/her own 
    decisions.
    
    

    PURPOSE

    It is recognized that presentations can be controversial and that any given 
    item may offend some individuals.  Therefore, material selections are not 
    made on the basis of any anticipated approval or disapproval, but solely 
    on the merits of the work in relation to the building of the collection and to 
    serving the interest of the college community.
    
    

    PROCEDURES

    Any member of the campus community is welcome to express his or her 
    opinion of materials housed in Educational Media or the Library.
    
    

    AUTHORITY

    University Academic Freedom Statement, the Library Bill of Rights and 
    Freedom to Read Statement adopted by the American Library Association.
    
    

    APPROVAL

    Provost, Director of Educational Media and Director of the Library.
