DEFINITIONS ADA: American's with Disabilities Act ODS: The Office of Disability Services
POLICY STATEMENT Accommodations and auxiliary aids are provided on a case-by-case basis however, WOU as an institution is also required, by law, has an obligation to ensure that remodeling or renovations undertaken on the campus address the issue of accessibility and follow the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design, at a minimum for equal access.
PROCEDURES It is the responsibility of the Physical Plant and the Office of Disability Services to be knowledgeable about the 2010 ADA Stands for Accessible Design and seek third party consultation as needed. Access Committee: An Access Committee will be established consisting of cross representation including but not limited to the Physical Plant representative, Office of Disability Services representative, up to 2 students with differing disabilities, and up to 2 faculty and/or staff with differing disabilities. The Access Committee will meet at least once a term during Fall, Winter and Spring, more often if necessary. The Access Committee will review the completed ADA built environment assessment and review plans for major remodeling and renovations, discuss areas of concern in relation to built environment accessibility. The goal of the Access Committee will be to offer ideas and suggestions concerning accessibility issues involved in the remodels and renovations as well as program access. The Planning or Physical Plant Director and the Disability Services Director will review minor remodeling plans and seek third party consultation as needed. | ||
