So you going to want to contact the 00:01:57.000 --> 00:01:60.000 Service Learning and Career Development Office to see and 00:02:00.000 --> 00:02:04.000 available opportunities in terms of federal work study approved jobs 00:02:04.000 --> 00:02:06.000 near campus or on campus. 00:02:06.000 --> 00:02:08.000 Next we'll see loans. So this is money 00:02:08.000 --> 00:02:11.000 that is not free but this is money that you can borrow 00:02:11.000 --> 00:02:15.000 and then are expected to repay back once you're out of school. 00:02:15.000 --> 00:02:18.000 So to go a little more in-depth about what that means for loans. 00:02:18.000 --> 00:02:22.000 Loans are a reality for a lot of our students attending our school. 00:02:22.000 --> 00:02:24.000 So your eligibility for annual 00:02:24.000 --> 00:02:28.000 limits for loans is depicted in this chart here. 00:02:28.000 --> 00:02:32.000 As you can see your amount of loans that you can receive 00:02:32.000 --> 00:02:34.000 changes based on the year and school that you're in. 00:02:34.000 --> 00:02:39.000 So a freshman who is a dependent student is able to receive 00:02:42.000 --> 00:02:44.000 And then after that 3rd, 4th and 5th years 00:02:44.000 --> 00:02:48.000 are able to receive $7,500 as a dependent student. 00:02:48.000 --> 00:02:51.000 These figures do increase if you're an independent student. 00:02:51.000 --> 00:02:55.000 If that is the case or you're unsure what your dependency status is 00:02:55.000 --> 00:02:57.000 you can contact your office and we can let you know. 00:02:57.000 --> 00:02:59.000 There is an option for a Parent PLUS loan so parents are 00:02:59.000 --> 00:02:62.000 able to apply for a federal loan. 00:03:02.000 --> 00:03:04.000 Keep in mind that this loan would be under 00:03:04.000 --> 00:03:06.000 the parent's name and not the students 00:03:06.000 --> 00:03:09.000 but it'll allow the student to have that additional federal 00:03:09.000 --> 00:03:12.000 loan opportunity to cover the remaining gap, if any, 00:03:12.000 --> 00:03:16.000 for any kind of expenses or cost that comes from attending Western. 00:03:16.000 --> 00:03:20.000 If a parent is denied for whatever reason 00:03:20.000 --> 00:03:21.000 for the Parent PLUS loan, 00:03:21.000 --> 00:03:25.000 the student does become eligible to receive additional unsubsidized loan. 00:03:25.000 --> 00:03:28.000 And this would be only per request of the student. 00:03:28.000 --> 00:03:30.000 You would have to request it only after you've shown that 00:03:30.000 --> 00:03:32.000 a Parent PLUS load has been denied for the parent. 00:03:32.000 --> 00:03:36.000 Again, the Parent PLUS loan is a credit-based application 00:03:36.000 --> 00:03:38.000 so the parent will know right then and there if they were 00:03:38.000 --> 00:03:40.000 declined or approved for the loan. 00:03:40.000 --> 00:03:42.000 00:03:42.000 --> 00:03:45.000 It is super important that you spend time on figuring 00:03:45.000 --> 00:03:48.000 out what your expenses or costs will be for school. 00:03:48.000 --> 00:03:52.000 The financial aid cost of attendance is an estimate only and your cost 00:03:52.000 --> 00:03:54.000 will vary based on your particular situation 00:03:54.000 --> 00:03:57.000 because it'll change base on your enrollment level 00:03:57.000 --> 00:03:59.000 and it's change based on your housing option. 00:03:59.000 --> 00:03:62.000 Only borrow as much loan money as you need. 00:04:02.000 --> 00:04:05.000 You may not need the maximum amount that we've offered you 00:04:05.000 --> 00:04:07.000 because we always package you with the maximum amount of federal loans. 00:04:07.000 --> 00:04:10.000 But keep in mind that you don't want to borrow more than you need. 00:04:10.000 --> 00:04:13.000 And if you have any questions on that you can contact 00:04:13.000 --> 00:04:16.000 the financial aid office if you've accepted 00:04:16.000 --> 00:04:18.000 more loans or money than you actually needed. 00:04:18.000 --> 00:04:22.000 As said, we can always reduce that figure for you. 00:04:22.000 --> 00:04:24.000 Now let's go over your financial aid award letter. 00:04:24.000 --> 00:04:27.000 This is what you would've received via mail. 00:04:27.000 --> 00:04:31.000 It'll be broken down by type of financial aid that you will be receiving. 00:04:31.000 --> 00:04:36.000 It'll be broken up into the three terms. 00:04:36.000 --> 00:04:38.000 You'll see the total at the bottom but you'll also see the total 00:04:38.000 --> 00:04:41.000 of the award for the year on the right hand side. 00:04:41.000 --> 00:04:46.000 Totaling to the corner piece, in this case it is $23,345. 00:04:46.000 --> 00:04:49.000 Now if we scroll down to the bottom of under cost attendance 00:04:49.000 --> 00:04:53.000 you'll see the figure that's been boxed at $24,636. 00:04:53.000 --> 00:04:54.000 This is your cost of attendance. 00:04:54.000 --> 00:04:57.000 This is the figure that you want to compare that $23,000 with 00:04:57.000 --> 00:04:60.000 because that gap is what you might not neccessarily 00:05:00.000 --> 00:05:02.000 be covered in your estimated costs. 00:05:02.000 --> 00:05:04.000 Again they're estimated 00:05:04.000 --> 00:05:07.000 So the difference there will be located towards the bottom. 00:05:07.000 --> 00:05:11.000 You see that $1291 figure boxed at the bottom. 00:05:11.000 --> 00:05:14.000 That is what you could get an additional load amount. 00:05:14.000 --> 00:05:17.000 It does not mean federal loan. What it means and refers to 00:05:17.000 --> 00:05:20.000 is a private student loan that you may be eligible to get 00:05:20.000 --> 00:05:23.000 if you were to apply and be accepted for a private student loan. 00:05:23.000 --> 00:05:27.000 The next number that I want to point out is the total resources figure 00:05:27.000 --> 00:05:29.000 that in this case it is $0. 00:05:29.000 --> 00:05:32.000 That is where you'll see your expected family contribution. 00:05:32.000 --> 00:05:36.000 so that is what mainly drives how much financial aid you can 00:05:36.000 --> 00:05:40.000 receive when it's need based. And this is where you'll be able to see 00:05:40.000 --> 00:05:43.000 that figure that came straight from your FAFSA or sum. 00:05:43.000 --> 00:05:45.000 The MyFinAid portal this is what it look like 00:05:45.000 --> 00:05:47.000 once you click on the green money sign. 00:05:47.000 --> 00:05:51.000 You'll want to make sure that the current award year says 20-21. 00:05:51.000 --> 00:05:56.000 At this point it says 19-20 and just to familiarize yourself 00:05:56.000 --> 00:05:58.000 with the terms an information that's located on here. 00:05:58.000 --> 00:05:61.000 But your main button will be the menu on the top left corner. 00:06:01.000 --> 00:06:04.000 Once you've clicked that you'll see two options 00:06:04.000 --> 00:06:07.000 that will be most important at this point in time which will be 00:06:07.000 --> 00:06:10.000 accept you award and then documents and messages. 00:06:10.000 --> 00:06:13.000 In your accept your awards, that's where you'll be able to accept your awards. 00:06:13.000 --> 00:06:16.000 In documents and messages is where we'll be able to list what we need 00:06:16.000 --> 00:06:19.000 in addition, in order to move forward with financial aid. 00:06:19.000 --> 00:06:22.000 So accept your awards page, this is what will first pop on 00:06:22.000 --> 00:06:25.000 and it will be your rights and responsibilities, make sure to read the fine print. 00:06:25.000 --> 00:06:29.000 And once you have as a federal aid recipient you're required to accept 00:06:29.000 --> 00:06:32.000 the terms and conditions if you wish to accept federal aid. 00:06:32.000 --> 00:06:35.000 So you're going to want to click on the I agree to these terms and conditions 00:06:35.000 --> 00:06:38.000 the box at the bottom and then hit submit. 00:06:38.000 --> 00:06:40.000 The next page would be the documents and messages page 00:06:40.000 --> 00:06:42.000 that I was mentioning before. 00:06:42.000 --> 00:06:45.000 Here you'll see things listed that we'll need in order 00:06:45.000 --> 00:06:47.000 to move forward with your financial aid. 00:06:47.000 --> 00:06:50.000 If the title of the document is highlighted that will route you to either the 00:06:50.000 --> 00:06:53.000 website where we need you to complete the task 00:06:53.000 --> 00:06:55.000 or it'll open up the PDF file that we need you to 00:06:55.000 --> 00:06:58.000 fill out, sign and return to our office. 00:06:58.000 --> 00:06:61.000 If you need information about what those documents mean 00:07:01.000 --> 00:07:04.000 or why we need those simply click on the click to view messages 00:07:04.000 --> 00:07:06.000 and that will let you know why we are required 00:07:06.000 --> 00:07:08.000 to receive that information from you. 00:07:08.000 --> 00:07:12.000 If you miss it on your award letter or you want a most updated 00:07:12.000 --> 00:07:14.000 amount that you can receive in a private student loan 00:07:14.000 --> 00:07:16.000 or apply for a private student loan 00:07:16.000 --> 00:07:20.000 you can also find that on here at the bottom where I have circled there 00:07:20.000 --> 00:07:24.000 the amount that you would've found in your award letter indicating 00:07:24.000 --> 00:07:28.000 how much your eligible to apply for a private loan if that's something 00:07:28.000 --> 00:07:31.000 that you're looking towards receiving as a resource. 00:07:31.000 --> 00:07:34.000 Now I would like to go over some paperwork that you'll need to be 00:07:34.000 --> 00:07:36.000 completed in order for us to move forward with your loans 00:07:36.000 --> 00:07:39.000 after you've accepted the amounts that you wish for the year. 00:07:39.000 --> 00:07:42.000 The first would be to go to studentloans.gov. 00:07:42.000 --> 00:07:46.000 You could also get there by clicking on the link from your MyFinAid portal 00:07:46.000 --> 00:07:49.000 for the students.
