I'm also going 00:03:20.000 --> 00:03:24.000 to be going over resources, clubs and committees for students 00:03:24.000 --> 00:03:28.000 that you may recommend for the folks that you're interacting with. 00:03:28.000 --> 00:03:32.000 I'm going to end today with some quick inclusive tips that you can 00:03:32.000 --> 00:03:36.000 start doing today to help make WOU a better place. 00:03:36.000 --> 00:03:40.000 First, committees for faculty and staff, think about getting involved with these. 00:03:40.000 --> 00:03:44.000 The University Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee is a 00:03:44.000 --> 00:03:49.000 campus-wide representative body that makes campus 00:03:49.000 --> 00:03:53.000 policy decisions, recommendations and provides 00:03:53.000 --> 00:03:57.000 information for best practices in the classrooms an on campus. 00:03:57.000 --> 00:03:61.000 There's also division specific committees such as 00:04:01.000 --> 00:04:04.000 the Student Affairs Committee on Inclusion or called SACI. 00:04:04.000 --> 00:04:08.000 And then the SafeZone Committee is make up of students, staff and 00:04:08.000 --> 00:04:13.000 faculty and they provide trainings on LGBTQ topics of inclusion. 00:04:13.000 --> 00:04:16.000 Keep an eye out for a sticker that looks like this 00:04:16.000 --> 00:04:21.000 on office doors and other places around campus. 00:04:21.000 --> 00:04:25.000 This is showing that person or that office has gone through 00:04:25.000 --> 00:04:28.000 a SafeZone training and says that's a safe place to be. 00:04:28.000 --> 00:04:32.000 Some resources and clubs that are available to faculty and staff... 00:04:32.000 --> 00:04:35.000 there's two resource centers that I'd like to highlight. 00:04:35.000 --> 00:04:39.000 They're both located in the bottom floor of the Werner University Center. 00:04:39.000 --> 00:04:43.000 The first is Abby's House Center for Gender Justice and Equity. 00:04:43.000 --> 00:04:46.000 And the second is the Veteran's Resource Center. 00:04:46.000 --> 00:04:49.000 There's also two social groups I'd like to highlight. 00:04:49.000 --> 00:04:52.000 The first is the Wolf Pride Network which is our social 00:04:52.000 --> 00:04:56.000 faculty and staff that are also LGBTQ group. 00:04:56.000 --> 00:04:60.000 Then, there's also the Faculty & Staff of Color Network 00:05:00.000 --> 00:05:04.000 both providing support and community for faculty and staff. 00:05:04.000 --> 00:05:08.000 Now since Western is such a student-focused institution, 00:05:08.000 --> 00:05:12.000 we want you to be aware of clubs and organizations that students might 00:05:12.000 --> 00:05:15.000 find a sense of belonging and community from. 00:05:15.000 --> 00:05:19.000 These are just some of the examples of clubs and organizations at WOU 00:05:19.000 --> 00:05:20.000 but we wanted to highlight these ones. 00:05:20.000 --> 00:05:24.000 Triangle Alliance is our LQBTQ student club. 00:05:24.000 --> 00:05:28.000 Again SafeZone Committee is available for students to engage 00:05:28.000 --> 00:05:32.000 with if they'd like to focus more on developing and 00:05:32.000 --> 00:05:36.000 providing those SafeZone trainings. We also have a 00:05:36.000 --> 00:05:39.000 Black Student Union here, the Multicultural Student Union, 00:05:39.000 --> 00:05:43.000 MeCHA de WOU and Unidos that are all very active on campus 00:05:43.000 --> 00:05:46.000 with events and club meetings. 00:05:46.000 --> 00:05:51.000 Campus resources for students that may help you provide a good support 00:05:51.000 --> 00:05:56.000 system for them. Just a simple what are your pronouns can go 00:06:56.000 --> 00:06:60.000 a long way to show students that you are welcoming and a safe place. 00:07:00.000 --> 00:07:05.000 Some students may not be ready to share pronouns yet and that's also okay. 00:07:05.000 --> 00:07:08.000 Some specific tips for faculty, 00:07:08.000 --> 00:07:12.000 are to always call during role call 00:07:12.000 --> 00:07:16.000 always call students by their last name and allow the student 00:07:16.000 --> 00:07:20.000 to provide their first name. That way if it's different than in the 00:07:20.000 --> 00:07:24.000 school's official files you'll know how to address them in front of the class. 00:07:24.000 --> 00:07:28.000 Also, did you know that you and students 00:07:28.000 --> 00:07:32.000 can change your preferred name in WolfWeb? It's pretty easy. 00:07:32.000 --> 00:07:36.000 Some more tips for faculty is to make sure that your class texts 00:07:36.000 --> 00:07:39.000 and the authors that you're using provide a diverse range of 00:07:39.000 --> 00:07:44.000 experiences and identities. There's research out there that shows 00:07:44.000 --> 00:07:48.000 that when students see their experiences reflected in course content, 00:07:48.000 --> 00:07:52.000 they're more likely to engage and do better in the course. 00:07:52.000 --> 00:07:56.000 If your having difficult finding content by authors of color, 00:07:56.000 --> 00:07:59.000 or with other experiences that relate to your class, 00:07:59.000 --> 00:07:62.000 please reach out to me or your supervisor 00:08:02.000 --> 00:08:05.000 and we will help you get to the right place. 00:08:05.000 --> 00:08:08.000 Next, think about word problems. 00:08:08.000 --> 00:08:12.000 On essay prompts, on math problems, 00:08:12.000 --> 00:08:17.000 think about the word you're using, who you're using as examples. 00:08:17.000 --> 00:08:20.000 In all of your examples, are they all named John? 00:08:20.000 --> 00:08:23.000 I don't think all of your students are named John. 00:08:23.000 --> 00:08:28.000 So maybe we can mix it up with a couple of different names in there. 00:08:28.000 --> 00:08:30.000 Now for staff... 00:08:30.000 --> 00:08:33.000 forms and such can be a really important way to show students 00:08:33.000 --> 00:08:37.000 that we're paying attention and we want to be intentional and inclusive. 00:08:37.000 --> 00:08:41.000 Maybe add a pronoun line to some of your intake forms. 00:08:41.000 --> 00:08:47.000 Maybe ensure that forms are visually inclusive using accessible fonts. 00:08:47.000 --> 00:08:51.000 Then, request personal and professional development opportunities 00:08:51.000 --> 00:08:55.000 that focus on equity. While you're on campus 00:22:43.000 --> 00:22:46.000 you may notice that there are blue phones or emergency phones, 00:22:46.000 --> 00:22:48.000 they're call by several different names, 00:22:48.000 --> 00:22:51.000 in outdoor locations on campus. 00:22:51.000 --> 00:22:53.000 Typically, in a parking lot or near a building. 00:22:53.000 --> 00:22:57.000 Those phones can be used to contact us at any time. 00:22:57.000 --> 00:22:60.000 And it's not just for emergency, it's for information as well. 00:23:00.000 --> 00:23:04.000 If you have locked your keys in your car, anything that you need from us 00:23:04.000 --> 00:23:07.000 or would like to talk to Campus Public Safety about, 00:23:07.000 --> 00:23:08.000 you can use that phone to do. 00:23:08.000 --> 00:23:12.000 The elevators in the buildings, all of the phones in those 00:23:12.000 --> 00:23:16.000 you can use in the same way. All of this 00:24:52.000 --> 00:24:54.000 information can be found on our website. 00:24:54.000 --> 00:24:56.000 I want to talk to you now about the Clery Act. 00:24:56.000 --> 00:24:59.000 In 1990, President George Bush signed the Crime Awareness and 00:24:59.000 --> 00:24:64.000 Campus Security Act of 1990, now known as the Jeanne Clery Act, 00:25:04.000 --> 00:25:08.000 Disclosure of Campus Security polity and Campus Crime Statistics Act, 00:25:08.000 --> 00:25:14.000 requiring all colleges receiving federal funds to report crime statistics. 00:25:14.000 --> 00:25:17.000 So, the Clery Act was born from 00:25:17.000 --> 00:25:20.000 parents seeks a safe place 00:25:20.000 --> 00:25:23.000 to send their daughter to school, the parents of Jeanne Clery. 00:25:23.000 --> 00:25:27.000 They sent their daughter to a university that had provided them with 00:25:27.000 --> 00:25:29.000 information about the crime happening on their campus 00:25:29.000 --> 00:25:32.000 that was less than accurate. 00:25:32.000 --> 00:25:34.000 So their daughter went to campus, she was subsequently 00:25:34.000 --> 00:25:38.000 raped and murdered her freshman year. 00:25:38.000 --> 00:25:41.000 Her parents went to Congress and said we want this to change. 00:25:41.000 --> 00:25:46.000 We want campuses to accurately report their crime statistics. 00:25:46.000 --> 00:25:49.000 This is owed to us. 00:25:49.000 --> 00:25:52.000 We need to know the place that we send our child to 00:25:52.000 --> 00:25:57.000 is a safe place to live, and to work and to learn. 00:25:57.000 --> 00:25:60.000 So again, the Clery Act requires that we accurately report 00:26:00.000 --> 00:26:03.000 our crime statistics in all of these categories. 00:26:03.000 --> 00:26:07.000 The Annual Security and Fire Safety report is available 00:26:07.000 --> 00:26:11.000 in print and that can be picked up in Human Resources, 00:26:11.000 --> 00:26:15.000 the office of Student Affairs and Campus Public Safety. 00:26:15.000 --> 00:26:18.000 And it's available online on our website. 00:26:18.000 --> 00:26:21.000 So now I want to talk about campus parking. 00:26:21.000 --> 00:26:23.000 If you haven't gotten your permit and you do 00:26:23.000 --> 00:26:25.000 park on campus, you need to do that. 00:26:25.000 --> 00:26:28.000 There are some areas on campus 00:26:28.000 --> 00:26:31.000 that are available for parking on the street. 00:26:31.000 --> 00:26:33.000 That does not require a permit. 00:26:33.000 --> 00:26:36.000 Please look at your brochure that comes with 00:26:36.000 --> 00:26:40.000 your parking permit to make sure that you understand all of the 00:26:40.000 --> 00:26:43.000 rules around parking and where you can and cannot park. 00:26:43.000 --> 00:26:47.000 Metered parking is also available on campus. 00:26:47.000 --> 00:26:50.000 And we offer bike lockers for rent. 00:26:50.000 --> 00:26:53.000 I want take the time to thank you for watching this video. 00:26:53.000 --> 00:26:55.000 Campus Public Safety depends on you 00:26:55.000 --> 00:26:58.000 to help us make a safe, secure campus. 00:26:58.000 --> 00:26:61.000 We are here to serve you. 00:27:01.000 --> 00:27:04.000 We hope you enjoy your time here. 00:27:04.000 --> 00:27:06.000 Welcome to Western Oregon University. 00:27:06.000 --> 00:27:09.000 music 00:27:09.000 --> 00:27:12.000 Hi, my name is Allen Risen. The university, 00:29:44.000 --> 00:29:49.000 myself, ensure that all our contractors and employees 00:29:49.000 --> 00:29:53.000 are in and remain in compliance with OSHA and DEQ regulations. 00:29:53.000 --> 00:29:60.000 My area is kind of the mini OSHA/DEQ/fire marshall person on campus, 00:30:00.000 --> 00:30:05.000 just so I can help keep us in compliance with all needed policies. 00:30:05.000 --> 00:30:11.000 For chemical safety, we're going to talk about safety data sheets 00:30:11.000 --> 00:30:13.000 and hazardous risk of chemicals 00:30:13.000 --> 00:30:17.000 that you may be exposed to in your work environment. 00:30:17.000 --> 00:30:20.000 We have a global harmonizing system 00:30:20.000 --> 00:30:23.000 which aligns with the United Nations 00:30:23.000 --> 00:30:26.000 clarification and labeling of all chemicals. 00:30:26.000 --> 00:30:32.000 It is a law, OSHA requirement, federal law that all employees 00:30:32.000 --> 00:30:35.000 know what hazardous chemicals are in their work environment 00:30:35.000 --> 00:30:38.000 and what they may be exposed to. 00:30:38.000 --> 00:30:42.000 There is training that is required for hazard communication and it's 00:30:42.000 --> 00:30:47.000 located on the Human Resource training calendar. 00:30:47.000 --> 00:30:51.000 If we scroll down, you'll see Human Resources training. 00:30:51.000 --> 00:30:54.000 Scroll down further to Campus Public Safety training. 00:30:54.000 --> 00:30:59.000 Under Hazard Communication you'll click online 00:30:59.000 --> 00:30:64.000 and this will come up and what you do is you need to register 00:31:04.000 --> 00:31:08.000 your name and your V#. And then what this does is 00:31:08.000 --> 00:31:12.000 let your supervisor know that you have taken this training. 00:31:12.000 --> 00:31:16.000 Once you're on this and have completed it, you'll mark yes or no. 00:31:16.000 --> 00:31:20.000 That again, is for your supervisor's notification. And then you'll 00:31:20.000 --> 00:31:24.000 click on the URL line there and it 00:31:24.000 --> 00:31:29.000 take you to the Hazard Communication training video. 00:31:29.000 --> 00:31:32.000 As it is showing now. This video is 00:31:32.000 --> 00:31:36.000 roughly about 28 minutes but it is required 00:31:36.000 --> 00:31:40.000 that all employees have this training. So once you've complete 00:31:40.000 --> 00:31:44.000 the training, I need you to go to your 00:31:44.000 --> 00:31:48.000 hazard safety data sheet booklet, as I'm holding here 00:31:48.000 --> 00:31:52.000 and inside there will be a training ledger, 00:31:52.000 --> 00:31:56.000 here, that you will sign and date 00:31:56.000 --> 00:31:58.000 showing that you've had your training. 00:31:58.000 --> 00:31:62.000 So if you do not know where your safety data sheet booklet is at, 00:32:02.000 --> 00:32:06.000 contact your supervisor to find out where it is at. 00:32:06.000 --> 00:32:08.000 And go through it to see what type of chemicals 00:32:08.000 --> 00:32:11.000 that maybe in your work environment. 00:32:11.000 --> 00:32:14.000 Our next area is hazardous waste management. 00:32:14.000 --> 00:32:19.000 I do all the collection of the hazardous waste on campus. 00:32:19.000 --> 00:32:25.000 I also oversee the disposal of the waste that we collect here on campus. 00:32:25.000 --> 00:32:29.000 Western Oregon University is a Conditionally Exempt Generator 00:32:29.000 --> 00:32:32.000 of hazardous waste meaning we do not produce 00:32:32.000 --> 00:32:37.000 anything over 220lbs. of hazardous waste waste per month. 00:32:37.000 --> 00:32:40.000 We don't even come near it and we don't want to. 00:32:40.000 --> 00:32:44.000 That'll put us in a different category, so we want to stay 00:32:44.000 --> 00:32:48.000 conditionally exempt. WOU is responsible for all chemicals 00:32:48.000 --> 00:32:52.000 that they purchase from cradle to grave meaning from 00:32:52.000 --> 00:32:56.000 the time of purchase to even after it has been disposed of. 00:32:56.000 --> 00:32:59.000 Should it turn up in an illegal landfill, the university will be 00:32:59.000 --> 00:32:64.000 responsible for the cleanup. But in order to prevent that, we go through 00:33:04.000 --> 00:33:08.000 a licensed contractor for our hazardous waste, for disposal. 00:33:08.000 --> 00:33:12.000 Departments for the university will also attempt to use 00:33:12.000 --> 00:33:16.000 alternative, non-hazardous chemicals whenever possible. 00:33:16.000 --> 00:33:22.000 That way we don't have any hazardous waste to dispose of and pay for. 00:33:22.000 --> 00:33:27.000 Under fire and life safety, fire extinguishers need to be monthly by 00:33:27.000 --> 00:33:32.000 by building managers or by an assigned person for that building. 00:33:32.000 --> 00:33:37.000 We do provide at Campus Public Safety fire extinguisher training, 00:33:37.000 --> 00:33:40.000 once a year and it's actually a lot of fun. 00:33:40.000 --> 00:33:44.000 If you've never shot off a fire extinguisher, look for this 00:33:44.000 --> 00:33:48.000 training, it usually occurs about the first part of September. 00:33:48.000 --> 00:33:52.000 I do quarterly fire and life safety inspections of all our 00:33:52.000 --> 00:33:56.000 buildings on campus. Each month, I do approximately 00:34:00.000 --> 00:34:05.000 offices, looking for any fire/safety issues. I look for extension cords. 00:34:05.000 --> 00:34:09.000 Extension cords are not allowed unless it's on a temporary use so, 00:34:09.000 --> 00:34:14.000 if you need an extension cord, get a power strip for your office area. 00:34:14.000 --> 00:34:18.000 We also do quarterly fire alarm tests on our buildings. 00:34:18.000 --> 00:34:21.000 And most of the time, these will occur 00:34:21.000 --> 00:34:24.000 after hours when the buildings are empty, 00:34:24.000 --> 00:34:28.000 less interruption to classes and things that go on in the office. 00:34:28.000 --> 00:34:32.000 Industrial and office safety, please report all safety 00:34:32.000 --> 00:34:36.000 concerns, hazards to your supervisor or to me 00:34:36.000 --> 00:34:40.000 at Campus Public Safety so we can get the things corrected, 00:34:40.000 --> 00:34:44.000 so nobody is injured. Walking around campus 00:34:44.000 --> 00:34:47.000 we have all the vegetation, tree branches, 00:34:47.000 --> 00:34:52.000 are always constantly growing. Sidewalks will shift 00:34:52.000 --> 00:34:56.000 due to weather conditions and cause trip hazards 00:34:56.000 --> 00:34:60.000 usually in the seams, so if we find any of that are sticking up 00:35:04.000 --> 00:35:08.000 facilities will come out and grind down that sidewalk, 00:35:08.000 --> 00:35:12.000 so nobody trips on them. Your supervisor is responsible 00:35:12.000 --> 00:35:16.000 for all your training and safety regulations for your area. 00:35:16.000 --> 00:35:20.000 I'm there if needed to help out. 00:35:20.000 --> 00:35:24.000 And all the training that you do receive must be documented. 00:35:24.000 --> 00:35:28.000 For equipment, if you're using a piece of equipment and you have not 00:35:28.000 --> 00:35:30.000 been trained.
