My name is Allyson Drury.

And I majored in biology at Western Oregon University.

I decided to major in biology because I've always been fascinated

with how the world and people work.

Right now, I'm working at a clinic in Salem as a lab assistant.

And I'm so excited to share that I'll be continuing on to medical school this fall.

And I've already heard back from 4 school and have 4 acceptances.

At this point, it feels a little surreal to be in this position.

But I think it all goes back to my time here at Western and the relationships I built

with the people, the professors and the different programs I was able to take part in.

Whether it be the biology department with Dr. Boomer,

and having the one-on-one work with her

and other professors that taught at this time.

Or it was my time in the Honors Program

and working with Dr. Vala-Haynes and being able to

transform an idea to a whole thesis project.

Or my time on the softball team, where I was able to make

some of the most meaningful connections with my teammates and coaches.

And they were there to support me at my lowest of lows,

and some of the best times of my life, as well.

And it was there that I formed relationships with my teammates and coaches.

And I was pushed to come together as one with a  group of people.

And I can't think of a better way to go into the medical field

then with all of these experiences.

I would definitely recommend to any incoming student Western Oregon University.

This is a place where you're going to grow as person,

as a student, even as a athlete if you so choose.

I truly believe that Western is a special place to get your education

because of just how supportive the community is here.
