Jacob: SOAR is a prime example of how WOU is committed to serving new students and their families.

Brenda: Every year admitted freshmen are required to attend one SOAR program so you and your family are ready for fall term.

Jacob: SOAR is held at Western in June and July, admitted freshman from Hawaii and California can attend a SOAR session in their state in May.

Your SOAR day begins with check in and getting a student ID card.

In the general session, you'll meet our new president, Rex Fuller.

Brenda: One of the most important activities at SOAR is advising and class registration.

Students work directly with faculty in their desired field to develop a class schedule and register for fall term.

Other SOAR activities include a Student Service Fair featuring clubs, organizations, student government and campus services.

Jacob: There's a performance about student life by the Plus team, campus tours are available,

and small group discussions, like this one with faculty, are scheduled.

Jacob: Absolutely. SOAR is for everyone. There's even special programs for family members.

Family members will have the opportunity to meet with staff from the financial aid office,

and learn about valuable campus resources.

Plus, with advance reservations, students or their family may stay in University housing the night before SOAR.

The rate is 30 dollars per person, contact University Housing for reservations or a list of lodging options in the area.
